Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router

    Duration of ownership: 2 Days

Strengths: strong performance on 5ghz n band; useful network map application

Weaknesses:After not using linksys products for several years due to declining quality and tech support, I decided to try them again. I hoped that their acquisition by cisco would raise the standard. I found that nothing changed. This top of the line router could not establish a connection with either of 2 laptops wirelessly on the 2.4ghz band (this was not a problem with the belkin router I was replacing). I spent hours with linksys tech support on the phone. The tech offered random recommendations, until he admitted he did not know the product in detail.

Overall Evaluation: I will never buy a linksys product again.

    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: 2.4GHz/5GHz Dual Band, Range, Stability, Built-in Gigabit Switch.

Weaknesses:Wireless clients dont always connect at highest speed, a bit pricy.

Overall Evaluation: I have had this router for awhile, and overall I am pleased. It offers dual band capability, which as long as your wireless client (notebook, etc) has a dual-band card, throughput is alot higher than a plain 802.11G setup. I consistently get 45 - 50 MB/s transfer rate when testing using a throughput tester, which is alot higher than my old 802.11G router. My only (minor) grip is my notebook doesn't always connect at the highest speed, even though I am within line of sight to the router.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Increased speed and range. Slim appearance. Reasonably easy set up if familiar with wireless configurations.

Weaknesses:Firmwear needed upgrade. Crashed during upgrade and had to contact linksys to rewrite flash memory. Price.

Overall Evaluation: I upgraded to this router about eight months ago to increase my networks range and speed from my prior G band router. Required upgrading all the computers in the house to N band to get the maximum benefit, however, was worth it. ONE WARNING: The firmwear that came with my router was not the most current. You can download the newer firmwear from the linksys website but DO NOT attempt to load this wirelessly, use a network cable connection. Mine got corrupted during the upgrade turining the entire think into a paperweight. Finally resolved by reflashing the flash memory with a program provided by Linksys and saved the router.

Strengths: SIMULTANEOUS G and N connections - Reliable performance - Super Fast

Weaknesses:Expensive - Can not set default router to different IP address

Overall Evaluation: I stepped up to the WRT600N when my old G router stopped working. I paid the rather high prices for the WRT600N because I knew it was the only simultaneous dual band router on the market and with legacy G devices on my network, I had to keep them working.I do a lot of PC to PC data movement (streaming to media center, streaming to laptop, large file syncing from laptop to backup). It is so much faster than G. My wife loves it.I am very happy with the router thus far but it is a pretty pricey unit. One thing that bugs me is the fact when it gives out DHCP addresses, it can not set the default router address to something other than itself.

    Duration of ownership: 8 Days

Strengths: Sleek design, lots of configurations, Dual-band radio frequency.

Weaknesses:Configuration page is quite slow and every time you save, it takes 25 to 45 seconds to refresh. It will notify you after the changes are saved. You just need to wait.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this to replace my old Linksys wireless-g due to the my new computer comes with wireless N client. It has the same web style configurations and easy to set up within a few mins. I have no problem so far to set it up. However, each web page configuration once saved, it will take a while to become available again. This is annoying and some of the page saved it will take up to 45 seconds. Secondly, I have Dell wireless N client, D-link wireless G client and Apple powerbook. Once it is setup, only my Apple powerbook is working. The rest are not reachable or have a weak signal. I am planning to return it as my old Linksys G router is working much stable than this one.
