Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Fast, silent 20X speed & Lightscribe
Weaknesses:None
Overall Evaluation: I just bought this for Lightscribe purpose, This drive performs great and best you get latest updates from their site as some don't provide that. My 16X DVD+R burning takes in 6 min. I had never experience with lightscribe and when tested was unhappy with time it takes for better quality print, I'm not sure if this true for other drives. I would but recommend this drive and it works great!!

Strengths: Very Fast. Easily installed. Low noise level, about like a small fan. LightScribe feature is nice.
Weaknesses:LightScribe labeling quality is just Okay on colored DVD's.
Overall Evaluation: I bought the LG GSA-H55LK burner to replace a 3-year old Toshiba SD-5372 that started making shiny coasters. My burn speed was down to 1.5x, and that was a crap-shoot even then. I read reviews on what was available and decided on this LG drive.I wanted max read/write speed, reliability, and a drive that could read/write DVD-RAM. This has it all.I installed the drive w/o a snag, loaded the software from the supplied CD, and updated the burner firmware to v1.5. (This took it from a 16x burner to 20x.)I then burned a DVD at 8x using a home movie on my PC as my source. It went perfect. So... I decided to push it and burned the same movie at 20x and Voila!!! A fast burn (under 5 minutes for a full DVD) and a usable DVD! My Toshiba drive was never able to burn consistently above 4x, and this was on a Dell Dimension 8400, P4 3.60 GHz running Win XP, SP2.Next, I tried the LightScribe feature. I created a test background and burned my first "label". The detail was sharp, but the contrast was poor. I checked for LightScribe updates which I downloaded, and changed the drive setting to "Best Quality". It took about 25 minutes to burn the "label", and it was better but not great. (This was on a light-green colored D LightScribe DVD, Verbatim, so it may be better on a standard LightScribe DVD.) Guess I'm just spoiled by the bright DVD labels I used to print and apply. I'm not sure if I'll use the LightScribe feature, but it's there if I decide to use it.All said, this is a great drive for the money. If I had to, I'd buy another one tomorrow.
