    Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

Strengths: Easy setup, better speed than G (but only 2x based on my measurements), internal antenna (so no external honky kinda radar antennas like the other N linksys routers)

Weaknesses:No better range than my 802.11G, no option to set router to only 802.11N, userid name cannot get updated on router

Overall Evaluation: Overall I was quite disappointed. The range was worse than my 802.11G router (yes worse), but the speed was 2x as fast. There is no setting on the router to run only on 802.11N, the admin user name is kept blank (you cannot enter a user name). Setup was easy except it said 'finished' when it really wasn't completely setup, so I ended up having to go into the IP address to complete the setup for the isp provider settings. It was no better than G - Overall I expected a whole lot more!

Strengths: Quick and easy setup. Slick Futuristic Design

    Weaknesses:None Noted

Overall Evaluation: I hadn't heard any press on this and was surprised to find it at my Best Buy store. I like it better then the larger more obtrusively designed Linksys with the radar tower attached.

Strengths: Works great right out of the box! Noticed slight speed bump. Setup Wizard now works with Macs!

Weaknesses:Setup Wizard CD only works with Macs with Mac logo on box.

Overall Evaluation: The main problem with most routers is their difficulty to set up. Linksys has provided a Setup Wizard CD that up to now could only work with PCs. On a new release of this router, Macs have been included in the Setup Wizard CD. You must find the Mac logo on the box to confirm this. If not on the box, you can go to Linksys' website and download the Mac Setup Wizard software.I did notice a slight speed improvement with this router over my previous Linksys G one.Although list price is $100, you can find this router for $80 at retail and frequently less from online vendors.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks

    Strengths: Easy to set up

Weaknesses:This is not a stable unit!!

Overall Evaluation: We have been looking for a wireless N router with reasonable price so we tried this WRT160N. The set up process was smooth without any problem however the status of this unit was not stable. Sometimes it took too much time to connect with our DSL. Appearly it did not really work well as expect, so we end up return this product.

Strengths: DD-WRT with VPN works perfectly

Weaknesses:802.11n is not fully supported in current v24 DD-WRT firmware, which makes older Linksys routers as practical, but cheaper.

Overall Evaluation: Many people buy Linksys routers to use them with DD-WRT firmware. The router flashed with DD-WRT v24 (VPN version) works perfectly. I easily set up a router-to-router VPN with my office Linksys router following the DD-WRT wiki guide. I can now use the remote desktop securily (only local 192.168.2/1.x addresses are involved) to connect between office and home PCs. About speed. This router connects with my 11n-capable laptop faster than my previous 11g router. The only problem is that DD-WRT does not support many of 11n features yet. Importantly, 40MHz channel and speeds higher than 130Mbit/s are not supported at all. The max connection speed allowed by DD-WRT interface was achieved when the distance to the router was 3-4 feet. When I went to another room in my flat, the speed dropped to 78Mbit/s and the signal to noise ratio dropped by half. This is the best I could get anywhere in my flat other than next to the router. I increased the signal power by 30%, but the connection speed did not improve. (Compatibility? - My laptop is Vaio vgn-sz680n.) Still, I am satisfied with wrt160n - it is a very stable router, and the speed issue does not matter much because my cable provider is just 5Mbit/s.
