Duration of ownership: 8 Months
Strengths: Easy to Use
Weaknesses:Slow with the Virus Definitions-A Disaster!!!
Overall Evaluation: The folks at Norton are ASLEEP!!! I download new definitions every day and always have auto protect on. But both my computer at home and here at work carried the W32.Jeefo virus for a month even though I ran virus scans regularly and had auto-protect on. Norton's definition of the W32.Jeefo virus didn't come out until 6/3. McAfee had this virus definition on May 7th!!! By then, when I ran the scan, every file the virus had gotten into during the month that they didn't alert me was destroyed when the file was supposedly "fixed". That was over 800 files on my computer at home, 400 or more at work. I didn't lose documents (Thank God), and the W2K I run on my work computer seems okay, but XP Professional took a hit at home. After trying to fix it for three days I ended up having to reinstall XP and the 65 updates it has now, as well as around 50 programs. I had to reinstall many programs at work as well. You would think Norton would at least check the definitions their competition has come up with. NOT!!! Norton is NOT reliable!!! Be afraid, be very afraid.

Strengths: Very reliable and consistant product. The Best for Virus Protection rated #1 by Pc Magazine over and over.
Weaknesses:Rather pricey for the full retail version if you can't use the upgrade rebate but still worth the price. You can always go with the OEM version though for about half price with less (no?) support.
Overall Evaluation: I just felt that I should give a review of this in contrast to the previous reviewer in case anyone out there is new to this product. I have my own Computer business and work with hardware/software/networking all day long. This is the best product out there for Antivirus protection and they prove it to me over and over again. I can't tell you how many computers I've ran across infected with a virus that had Mcafee Antivirus. This product works exactly as billed and catches a virus as soon as it tries to infect the system. This is the reason the experts at PC Magazine consistently rate Norton over Mcafee and other competitors over and over again every year. In fairness to the previous reviewer, while there aren't a ton of new features in this version, if you don't already have Norton Antivirus, GET IT. If you already do own a copy, you would be fine just updating your subscription and saving money, but do this at the very least. One last thing to note, even though Norton is the best out there, you MUST keep the Virus definitions up to date. And in fairness to Mcafee, the reason their product in the past was so poor at catching viri is because of their failure to notify the computer user that they needed to update their virus definitions. Just like going to the doctor to get 'booster' shots to protect against viri and diseases, you have to keep these virus definitions up to date. The latest versions of NAV have an option to automatically notify you.

Weaknesses:Nothing new, some old tools are missing, and thus no reason to upgrade.
Overall Evaluation: Nothing new in terms of major features, some old tools are missing, and thus no reason to upgrade. I think my summary of weaknesses says it all.
