Strengths: Great recording time with nice quality graphics including taking still photos while video taping. (7.6) While recording and 10.2 in camera mode.

Weaknesses:Slow focus especially in dark places. Accessories lacking. Battery should have been the FH70 that you will need to purchase. Also no shoulder strap. No HDMI cable

Overall Evaluation: I have only had one good day at using this camera. The zoom sound was great. While in an auditorium a baby near me was crying. Zooming in on the stage almost cut the baby cry completely out. The video sound was better than what we could hear during the actual show. This was a low light show and once the camera focused it stayed in focus and did an excellent job. In the bright sun a filter might be needed. The actress almost had a glow at times. At resorts you can get a variety of filming challenges. I video for church, using pro equipment that costs 3 times as much as this camera. For the price the quality is great and I am not disapointed in the choice I made. Filming and photos simultaneous is great. Not as good as the Alpha DLSR for stills but nice enough for 8 x 10 prints.

    Duration of ownership: 5 Days

Strengths: Picture quality, face recognition, 5.1 audio, HDMI (but mini so be prepared)

Weaknesses:AVCHD -> Software just is not up to speed with the tech, interesting touch screen -> hard to use

Overall Evaluation: - Got mine at a price lower than the HDR-SR11 (60gb version) from Dell ... they'd miss priced the HDR-SR12, but you had to be fast to act on it because they've already corrected their mistake. - Picture quality is great and the face recognition tech is nice. - The audio is suppose to zoom with the lens. Zoom out you are to get ambient sound, and zoom in you are to get the voice/sound of what your are zooming. Haven't tried this yet, but would be cool if it really works. - Remember the connection on the camcorder is a mini-hdmi ... can be hard to find mini to regular hdmi cables ... use the net to find yours. - Touch screen is cool, but it is hard to use and the menus on the screen are not very user friendly. - Overall ... I'm happy so far ... got mine for less than the 60gb version, could be the reason. Will see once I get into using it more and taking pictures.

Strengths: Image quality, stabilization, still features, hard drive size, hybrid recording ability, design and overall look

Weaknesses:Touchscreen panel, price, supported software is a little lacking, didn't feel as quite sturdy as some other models

Overall Evaluation: This is one of the first real contenders for a decent HD camcorder you are going to be able to use on regular basis, without first having to break the bank. When I say decent HD camcorder I am not only talking about the HDR SR12's full 1080p shooting resolution, but it's 120GB hard drive ensures you will be able to get a decent amount of shooting in each time you use it. The features are numerous and there are plenty of effects/features budding cinematographers will enjoy getting there hands on.What attracted me to this particular camera was that I knew the Handycam line usually features more consumer friendly products, and I found this camera to be fairly intuitive right from the get go. A word of caution, however, in order to use this camera's abilities to its fullest, you are going to need some serious storage and processing capabilities on your computer. If you are not as comfortable editing and dealing with more technical things, this may not be the best camera for you. Like always, be careful where you are purchasing this from, make sure to chose a reputable dealer from where you know you are getting a genuine item. It has been about a week since I received this camera and so have quite a bit more exploring to do, but it has already been out to the park, celebrated a birthday, and been put through its paces following a two year old. All-in-all, I am very pleased with the superior image quality and intuitive features.
