Strengths:
Weaknesses:When I try to restore a file -- any file from any backup -- Acronis wants me to "Insert Volume 1" Huh? This is a hard drive. The log, in ever case, says the file is corrupted. A support request, filed 3 days ago, has not been answered. That's unacceptable.
Overall Evaluation: 1. It's dangerous to rely on Acronis to back up your files. 2. They don't give a ****

Strengths: This product is simple to use and it works! Great way to clone your hard drive in case of a disaster. Much better than System Restore, the clone is the EXACT copy of the hard drive on the time of cloning.
Weaknesses:Some have noted that it has a problem with Vista. Not really true. Just use the boot CD OR ignore the re-boot issue and chose Normal on the restart options when given a chance.
Overall Evaluation: I created an 60 gig Acronis Secure Drive (hidden from view by the OS) and put my clones and backups in there. Pressing F11 at the appropriate prompt and it boots into the Linux version in the Acronis Secure sector. Takes about 10 to 20 minutes to completely replace the C drive on my XP, and did it on Saturday (2 days ago). You can get it from Amazon (True Image 2009 Home) for 29 bucks with free shipping. This is an excellent product.

Overall Evaluation: tHE PROGRAM IS FAIR IN OPERATION, HOWEVER IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG DON'T DEPEND ON ANYONE AT ACRONIS TO OFFER ANY ANSWERS, OR HELP. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET HELP FOR A MONTH W/O ANY SUCESS. MEANWHILE IF MY SYSTEM FAILS I HAVE NO BACKUP... BEWARE, BEWARE

Strengths: Lots of features, clear documentation
Weaknesses:Buggy, no support
Overall Evaluation: After I bought Acronis True Image 11 Home I was having several problems, mostly involving the software hanging. I went to the Acronis website to try to look up solutions. The website didn't work at all, for days, then wouldnât let me log in for several more. I wrote them an email about this. Got canned email acknowledgement with statement that they'd get back to me. They never did. Later I sent them a question about yet another of the technical problems I was having (and couldnât find an answer to in their knowledge base). Again I got a canned email acknowledgement with statement that they'd get back to me. It took them 22 days to return my email. In the meantime I had already contacted the Better Business Bureau. That was weeks ago, and they havenât responded to the BBB either. The software has a lot of features, which would be great, if they worked reliably. If your computer setup is very simple and you donât want to do too much with the software, you might be okay. But I constantly ran into problems that sent me running to the knowledge database to try to puzzle together a solution. A good example is that the software will just crap out on you if you have too many files in a file-type (non-image) backup. According to the knowledge base, you get an unhelpful OS error message, but I never got any messages at all. In the end I ended up making extra partitions that I didnât need and got in the way, and using the image method. And I was lucky that time, in that the knowledge base at least gave me *some* clue about the problem. What really bothers me about this is that, although Acronis canât be bothered to respond to my support email questions, theyâve been sending me emails offering to sell me the new, improved version (True Image Home 2009) for almost as much money as I paid for the original problematic software just a few months ago! They donât seem to have any problem sending marketing email!

Duration of ownership: 2 Years
Strengths: Full Disk Image and File Backups
Weaknesses:Fails to read files sometimes, and pops up error messages which stall the backup
Overall Evaluation: This software doesn't work well for me. My drive is fine, according to all diagnostics and I have no other problems with it. I've been using Acronis backup for 2 years, and am fed up. It has frequent problems reading one or two files, and instead of logging the error and continueing the backup, it pops up a message on the screen and waits for user interaction. So, backups that should run overnight frequently have to finish while I'm on the computer (poor performance). I'm switching to a different product.
