Strengths: The product is not expensive, and is a company owned by Cisco. This router is excellent and configures easily with the software provided. I was able to use the more secure WPA2 encryption at 128 bit and it is compatible with D-Link and other brands as well.

Weaknesses:It has a limited range, and I get crummy access anywhere more than 30-40 yards from the base unit. I only get 2 bars just 25 feet from the unit since metals and such in walls interfere with the signal. Also computer or TV sets or monitors will also limit the range if they are close to the base unit.

Overall Evaluation: I like the unit for 34.99 and I paid about 50.00 when I bought mine over 1 year ago. It works well with cable routers (modems) too. I hate the fact the default setting is to shut down when there is little or no signal from the cable router. Forcing you to reboot or restart the network on the access point. This setting has to be shut off manually and for non-techies it is hard to understand. (Not for me, but many other people don't get what this is and what it means.) They see it as the router just locking up and not working and that is really not the issue, it is a setting. You have to get into the firmware to shut this off. Kinda tricky.

    Strengths:

Weaknesses:Wireless performance is unstable compared to Netge614L. 614L is an excellent router soupporting the third party firmwares also.

Overall Evaluation: I would prefer Netgear 614v8 over this router.

    Strengths: Supports lots of features

Weaknesses:unnecessarily costly. Netgear WGR614v8 is an opensource family router and quite stable and eady setup as well. But costs much less compared to the linksys product

Overall Evaluation: I would recommend the WGR614v8. Do not fo r linksys router. It's time to switch to Netgear.

    Strengths: Cheap,Dangerous,Junk

    Weaknesses:Caution! Fire Hazard!

Overall Evaluation: The first router I purchased burned up when I left it plugged in overnight. After numerous calls to "technical support" and many hours of trying to resolve connectivity issues, I am returning this router to the place I purchased it at. I am also returning a Linksys USB adapter and my Linksys hard wired router is going in the trash. This company refuses to provide language translators for their technical support people and if you mention that you are having problems understanding their spoken language, the phone goes dead and you must call back. Calls to Linksys Technical Support is like living in the movie "Groundhog Day" ...no resolve and it just keeps happening!

Strengths: Works well, both wired and wireless. Easy configuration, once you get access.

Weaknesses:Setup as outlined in the instructions didn't work. After making the connections and running the Easy Link software, it assigned my computer an IP address, but then said the router was not compatible with Easy Link. So I tried to configure it manually, but the web based configuration screen wouldn't come up. I had to disconnect my DSL modem so I could access the configuration pages.

Overall Evaluation: I give the product 4 stars overall, but the ease of setup a 1-2. I've been working with computers for years and I still struggled with the setup. A newbie would have been lost and probably returned it. I have WPA enabled and it works flawlessly with my daughter's laptop and my HD Tivo box.

Strengths: Simple setup and easy to follow menu system.

Weaknesses:Poor range. I had to buy the extended high gain antena which cost $65. Online instructions are minimal. Explinations of security features are basic at best.

Overall Evaluation: Basic out of the box is not adequate for small office/home use. I had to buy the extended range antena which was expensive. Dissapointed that there are only four ports. I had to buy an extra 8 port switch to connect all my desk top units.

Strengths: Graphical user interface looks pretty much professional to me. In contrast, the graphical user interface in D-Link DI-524 looked unprofessional and too colorful (except for the background). Wireless in Linksys is better than D-Link DI-524. I don't get any connection loss with the Linksys. I really like the design of the hardware. It's easy to setup and easy to use.

Weaknesses:Unless you have WRT54GS/GL or you have a revision no later than 6, you're at the mercy of Linksys providing a firmware for the WRT54G.

Overall Evaluation: Great design of the hardware, professional GUI, and good wireless connection! There are lots of options you can configure in the router. As for firmware, if you're an early adopter and wanted IPv6 support, or any other feature(s) not provided in the Linksys firmware, you must go with either of the routers I mentioned except for v8 of Linksys WRT54G. I am using my server (Windows Server 2008 RC0 that I'm evaluating) as a DHCP server, so I disabled my router's DHCP Server. Overall, I'll give WRT54G 9 out of 10.

Strengths: fast when it works. a pretty high tech external appearance.

Weaknesses:a look through linksys' support forums will tell you all you need to know about the quality of their firmware. expect to perform a firmware update the first time you plug it in. won't hold a connection for more than 20 minutes without a power cycle

Overall Evaluation: a total waste of money and time. i thought linksys had a good reputation. If you like to sit on the phone for hours everyday with tech support that has you go through the motions you already have intuitively been through you'll love this router. plug and play routers must be a thing of the past. you'll need to install their software before you start anything and their software is full of hiccups. have fun. might as well walk it from the register to the service counter and return it.

Strengths: When you add power it starts.

Weaknesses:Before upgrading firmware reach was about ½ meter. Antennas of wireless pc and router should almost touch to have connection. After upgrade things are better but still looses connection. its a piece of j***.

    Overall Evaluation: from 0 - 1000.000 points i give it... 1

Strengths: I reallly love this product... It sits right beside my desktop computer and connects my other systems wirelessly with no hassle... The speed is great, even without the SpeedBooster. The connection in a 8ft thick building over a couple hundred feet away is as fast as my connection in this building.... -- REALLY FAST!!!

Weaknesses:Not many.... About the only thing would be that occasionally have to switch ports... but that is about it...

Overall Evaluation: The product is great! I've had nothing but good luck with it.. I completely recommend this product to anyone who wants a wireless router for a great price. It allows wired Connections, and Also Wireless. A perfect combination..... Especially if you don't want to go buying multiple wireless adapters/cards..... The wired connection is just as good as the wireless... And the Wireless is sweet.

Strengths: stopped my 10 mb connection from dropping very easy to set up . web browser control panel is good good signal strength. no problems ever. best router i have had. knocks spots off other makes

Weaknesses:non i have the cable version and its flaw less it looks ok as well. have you seen some of the other routers. they look awfull.

Overall Evaluation: if you need a router then this is the one you must get. its cheap it works and its a must have. if you want instant connection with little fuss then go buy it. i have the cable version but if the adsl one is as good then you cant go wrong with this. even a novice can get there network on line in minutes with this. i dont know why so many say different but it really is a great product for the price although they have some how managed to improve on this model now. buy linksys and you wont be let down

Strengths: The two ladies in Tech Support worked a lot harder than this thing did. It worked twice.

Weaknesses:The distance between home & BestBuy to get my money back.

Overall Evaluation: Unfriendly and just plain ornery right out of the box. The install software led you to the point of where it tells you that it doesn't work. That was about it. Some FAQ help off of their site & I got it going once, then lost signal. With Tech help, we got it going a second time. I came back later to resume online, and it's no signal all over again. Wasted three hours, that's quite enough.
