    Duration of ownership: 6 Months

    Strengths: Fair maps. Works for most POIs.

    Weaknesses:Customer Service is terrible. Missing and/or bad locations on many POIs. Missing streets, may give you poor routing (streets not intended for cars). Pretty pricy for what you get.

    Overall Evaluation: The map updates have many bad addresses for businesses and points of interest. The original maps that came with my Garmin had the correct addresses, but the update seems to have put many points of interest at incorrect locations. Another thing to be aware of is that Garmin will not transfer the "lifetime" updates to a replacement unit. My GPS was stolen about a month after I purchased the update package and Garmin customer support's answer was too bad, buy another. A few key strokes in their database and I would still be a loyal Garmin customer, but their products just aren't that amazing on their own.

    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

    Strengths: gives phone numbers of retail and restaurants so you can call to find out when stores are open or make reservations for dinner after you have already left the house.

    Weaknesses:doesn't always give me the most up-to-date info on store locations. It would just be the fault of the merchants not getting data to the right people.

    Overall Evaluation: our family moves every 3 years from state-to-state. House hunting in newer neighborhoods was almost impossible before getting the newest version. It was nice being able to search for the nearst hotels after driving for 12 hrs. not having to worry about having a local phone book to look at. The garmin data had all the info. we needed to make reservations.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Years

    Strengths: Easy to follow instructions. Put the disk in and it does the rest.

    Weaknesses:No documentation comes with the disk to show specific enhancements that were made.

    Overall Evaluation: It was very easy to update my Garmin and happily a lot of the missing streets from the 2006 version were on the 2009 update. It did take over a half an hour to unload and reload the data for just the US. I haven't done the other area updates yet.

    Strengths: Accurate, easy to update.

    Weaknesses:Sometimes doesn't find the quickest route to a destination.

    Overall Evaluation: Excellent maps, very accurate streets, roads, highways, very accurate directions - finds just about everything. Update process is very simple. Sometimes doesn't find the fastest route to a destination, even though system is set up that way.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Days

    Strengths: The installation worked seamlessly with my Nuvi 660.

    Weaknesses:The install process took well over an hour to complete.

    Overall Evaluation: The 2009 Map Update for Garmin GPS units is simple, albeit time consuming. The on-screen instructions are easy to follow. Upon start-up of the Garmin GPS following the upgrade, the only evidence that the new maps are present is to view the "Map Info" screen and see that all the 2009 Maps are in the database and being used. Everything works just as it did with the 2008 and prior maps -- a really nice outcome, since many computer software upgrades end up with numerous surprises.
