Duration of ownership: 6 Months
Strengths: Large capacity drive with 8MB cache
Weaknesses:
Overall Evaluation: Very good for storing large files like home movies, mass video editing and mp3's. You need to buy an Ultra ATA-133 card, as it is not included with the drive if your motherboard doesn't support ATA-133. I'm very satisfied with this drive.

Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks
Strengths: Solid drive with good documentation, relatively quiet. It comes with everything you need to get started. Good value for the money.
Weaknesses:1 year warranty and no manufacturer option to extend it (like WD).
Overall Evaluation: I installed it in an external case, formatted and it was ready to go. It is quiet and stays relatively cool even when drive is busy. It probably helps that my external case is aluminum. Overall this is a great product and I haven't had any problems so far.

Duration of ownership: 7 Months
Strengths: Large capacityFast
Weaknesses:A little louder than SeagatesOnly 1-year warranty
Overall Evaluation: The kit comes with an 80-conductor IDE cable & screws & software. I just plugged in the drive and let Windows XP format it (You'll need at least sp1 to recognize the whole drive). Too bad Maxtor isn't following Seagate's lead and offering a longer warantee with this. I didn't give it 5 stars because the new 300 GB drives with 16 MB cache are out. However, those drives are a bit more pricy whereas you can often pick up one of these 250 GB drives for $0.50/GB or less.

Strengths: None
Weaknesses:Very Noisy, slow access
Overall Evaluation: I have never seen so noisy disk in my life. I have used different makes but this really sucks. Normally when it is doing nothing it is quit but when it try to read data the disk head makes a hell of noise and also vibration. Also it is quite slow to access. I prefer my old western digital 120GB it is much quit and fast to access. The disk noise is making me nuts.

Strengths: Big capacity, good price
Weaknesses:Included MaxBlast software buggy if upgrading an preexisting installation
Overall Evaluation: The cost per gigabyte ratio of this drive is excellent. Relatively silent. If you have an existing drive and you want to upgrade (copy all files to new drive+boot off it), you're better off using other software instead of the included MaxBlast software. It gives errors with certain programs (for me, it was problems with Office and Norton Systemworks).
