Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Speed, (lack of) noise, and (lack of) heat.
Weaknesses:Price.
Overall Evaluation: Western Digital should have called the drive "the Paradox". I never thought it could have been done, but my computer is running the fastest drive in the world *and* one of the quietness and coolest. Regardless of whether this is a by-product of the shrink to a 2.5" form-factor, they did it and no one else comes close. All of this realistically has to come at a price, $1/GB at the time of this post. In contrast, the Western Digital 10EACS has about the same level of acoustics, heat dissipation, but severe lack of speed at $.20/GB. Is it worth the 5x premium? I say yes.

Strengths: Very Fast and Quiet!
Weaknesses:Price is a little bit high.
Overall Evaluation: I had a raptor 150GB for about one year and when I upgrade my system with velociraptor, I almost can not hear the noise from the hard drive any more! And the speed for loading game and windows xp is improved by about 15% due to the SATA II interface, although that is a little bit below my expectation. If you want a fast and quiet drive this is the best choice. I hope WD will release 150GB version velociraptor in the future which will make this drive affordable for more people.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Amazingly fast and quiet
Weaknesses:None so far
Overall Evaluation: I installed a drive and then the software for Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. When I booted my computer, I saw the familiar green bar going back and forth, and it suddenly stopped. I thought that it was going to reboot, but what happened was it went right into Windows because the drive is so fast. Every time I use this drive, I am amazed at its speed and functionality.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Fastest consumer hard drive you can buy!!!
Weaknesses:Very poor value for the capacity! The drive just is not worth it if you need space.
Overall Evaluation: It's great as a stand alone, but if you go raid 0 with two 7200rpm drives, your better off. Not recommended unless you do alot of multitasking or video editing. The amount of space, 300gb, is just too little for storing video or even high resolution photos. Again, you are better off buying 7200rpm drives. That being said, it still is an amazing drive, not only for its size and unique heat sink construction, but for how much quieter it is over the old raptors.
