  Duration of ownership: 21 Days

  Strengths: Fast disc read upon loading. Picture quality of Netflix HD streaming is decent. Would purchase again.

  Weaknesses:Flipping scenes in Netflix streaming. See comments for details.

  Overall Evaluation: The forward/rewind/pause buttons on the netflix streaming has a very delayed response, can be very annoying, and needs user experience to adjust to the timing of the remote-to-player response. Granted that the video source is streaming, I am expecting a bit of a delay, but this player somehow extends the delay a bit longer. For instance, when you are rewinding/forwarding scenes, there is a 1-, 2-second or longer delay between pressing STOP or PAUSE before the streaming video actually does(or sometimes it doesn't stop/pause after repeated pressing). However, these are minor glitches that do not in any way negatively impact the solid performance of the player.

Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player

Despite incorporating a few bone-headed design decisions, the Samsung BD-P1600 is a very good player for its price.

The Samsung BD-P1600 ($250 as of April 9, 2009) delivers very good-looking Blu-ray playback and adds a host of multimedia goodies previously found only in higher-end Samsung models, including BD-Live, Netflix, and Pandora streaming to your TV and home-theater sound system. Unfortunately, in a few simple areas, this model put its foot in its mouth.
