  Strengths: Good balance between very expensive and beginner

  Weaknesses:Lacks in-body autofocus

  Overall Evaluation: This is a great camera for those of you who would value shooting video for it is the lowest priced Nikon DSLR that can perform this function. Above this is the D90 which will cost you another $400.

  Strengths: I enjoy everything about the camera.

  Weaknesses:None.

  Overall Evaluation: I don't have much camera experience but I'm enjoying the Nikon D5000. Lots of things to learn about the camera but it takes great pictures and good movies. My husband and I went to a show and we both taped the show. His movie didn't turn out at all, my movie came out great. Looking forward to learning more about the camera.

  Duration of ownership:

  Strengths: Light weight, reasonable price, giving nice pictures.

  Weaknesses:None

  Overall Evaluation: If you confuse between D90 with D5000. You should buy D5000, latest release, more features useful. You should buy lens 55-200mm RV for $219, it would be complete package camera. I love my D5000, suitable for family purpose and little Pro. The best i like on D5000 is "tracking subject". Thanks for review my ad!

Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera

The feature-laden D5000 entry-level SLR camera takes better pictures at manual settings.

The Nikon D5000 ($850 with an 18mm-to-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR lens, as of 5/15/09) strikes a great balance between price and features. It deviates from the nomenclature of its closest siblings, the Nikon D60 and Nikon D90, but no matter: It combines many of the best aspects of both while adding its own extras to the mix.
