Strengths: It's 3D. Amazing technology.
Weaknesses:None really. Not enough 3d content out yet.
Overall Evaluation: These new 3D tv's are amazing. Technology is unreal. The Samsung series 8 tv is one of the best 3d tvs out right now. It even converts 2d to 3d! Go to your local retailer and check one out!http://www.3dlcdreviews.com

Strengths: picture quality; light on energy; cool slim factor
Weaknesses:propietary wireless internet adapter needed if you want to go wireless
Overall Evaluation: very cool tv. if i could, would buy another...maybe if price drops when the 9-series comes in market. the pictures come alive on screen; so amazing to watch; i especially love that it is light on energy usage....compare to my plasma of five years ago that consumes probably 4 times as much.

Strengths: Good picture quality
Weaknesses:no as of now
Overall Evaluation: Picture quality is awesome. After many years of 1080p/24 and 120Hz, the 8000 is an order of magnitude better. It also beats e I've seen on anyevery pictur TV in any store, including the $6k plasmas by far. 1080i from cable HD (and 30 year old blurays) beats any bluray from other TV's (mine and seen in stores) by far in 3d effect and picture quality, and blu-ray on the 8000 is a class ahead of that. Finally, a real window on the world effect, even from hdtv. My highest recommendation. This year's best is several times better at half the price, great time to buy. 6th Ave is the best, came in to buy a new plasma, walked out with 7000 due to much higher picture quality (much better than $6k Kuro with no 3d effect, even on Dark Knight bluray), then traded in and had 8000 1 week later for the same bargain price now offered with $1000 off. Listening to HD sound, never used TV speakers.

Duration of ownership: 1 Months
Strengths: Nice Picture
Weaknesses:No Support-Broken Firmware
Overall Evaluation: Beware of this TV. Samsung is running away from it -discontinued it only six months after release and support now appears to be almost non-existent.Case in point: downloaded Amazon.com video on demand widget from the "widget gallery" that Samsung/Yahoo makes available on the TV. Started the widget and it said I needed firmware update. Went to software update screen and it confirmed that new software was available. Downloaded Version T-CHE9AUSAC-1009.2. Went back to widgets. Couldn't connect.Went to network setup page and found all connection/setup information wiped.Tried to re-enter manually and things began to go wrong. Tried to select "manual" and it wouldn't allow selection. Screen did allow me to enter numbers manually however. Tried network test and joy, it proclaimed success. Went back to widgets and again couldn't connect. Went back to network set up screen and lo and behold all network set up information had been wiped again. Repeated same procedure with same results.Auto setup of network did not function.Assumed problem was with new version of software (firmware?). Tried to find prior version on Samsung site but nothing there!Spent two hours on phone with Samsung "support" and the best they could do was promise to send "disk" of firmware in the mail. 7-14 biz days, naturally. Not clear that the firmware will be a correct or even an earlier version.Absolutely clear that no one is USA support center knows anything about the networking features of this TV.If you sell a TV for this much money and can't support it any better, you are asking for trouble.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Samsung is making, probably the best sets out today.
Weaknesses:Samsung's model numbering system and the way they dump model information from their website and their support the second that a new model is released.
Overall Evaluation: I saw a brief blurb the other day that Samsung had or are releasing the 9000 Series. Since then I am seeing more and more threads popping up where current users and new buyers can't find online info or that Samsung has dropped the 8000 Series from their website. Making many quite concerned if the 8xxx Series will continue to be supported. Samsung says yes, but they dropped my HL50A650 DLP (phenomenal machine) like a lead balloon the second they released their new LED models and there has been no firmware updates or any feature movement on it since contrary to them telling me that there would be.
