Strengths: Sound quality, 7.1 surround sound or 2nd zone options. An amazing deal on this website!

Weaknesses:Having HDMI ports deceive many people, you would assume the receiver pulls audio from them, until you read up.

Overall Evaluation: HDMI audio is not a common feature for receivers, from what I understand it was designed for those who have no desire for surround sound and just want 1 wire to their HDTV. The receiver has 2 coaxial and 2 optical inputs that pair up with the HDMI inputs.

    Strengths: Sounds FantasticPrice

    Weaknesses:Have to read manual

Overall Evaluation: I just got everything hooked up and it works great! I have to admit it took me about 5 hours to get everything working, but the last time I hooked up a receiver was in the stone age, when the only options were Tremble, Bass and Balance. I had a particularly hard time with the "Zone 2" setup, it requires that you carefully read the manual and follow all steps, flipping back and forth to get all the directions. (My kingdom for a index in the manual!)However, now that it is set up, no complaints. It sounds great and you can't beat the price. Even the AM/FM tuner works well. Also 6th Ave. had the best price by far and delivered it right on schedule. If you don't have strange HDMI needs like some of the other reviews, I don't see how you can go wrong.

Strengths: Sound, Seperation, Self Set Up

Weaknesses:Scary thick manual. When you first see the manual ... I was thinking, what did I get myself into?

Overall Evaluation: Purchased to replace my 1st Denon AVR1200. Follow the easy to read directions (Don't let the manual scare you!), it sets everything up itself and sounds terific! My 10 year old son came in the room after everthing was set up and he said that he couldn't believe how great is sounded! The unit comes with a set up microphone which first checks out your speakers ... how many and then sets up the system by self measuring the distance and quality of sound. It will tell you if you have any polarity issues with any of the speakers so you know to switch the wires around (pos.v.neg.), then it self calculates the premium sound, treble, base, mid-range and does it all for you. You do not have to manually adjust anything but the volume. Denon advertises what appears to be a lower wattage out put but their discrete amplifier systems out perform any others in the market. The very high, non distorted louds and the the very low and pure sounds will be appreciated by anyone who has the slightest ear for quality sounds! I will NEVER own any other AVR as long as DENON is available.

Strengths: 7.1 surround, multi-zone with 2 remotes, Audyssey control, Dynamic volume, Tons of Power, and much more at a ridiculous low price!!!

Weaknesses:No audio in the HDMI input, and no codecs for TrueHD audio.

Overall Evaluation: This is a Killer receiver for what you are paying for. This receiver msrp's for $449.00 and sells at many other places for way more than what 6th Ave. is selling this unit for. If you go to Best Buy right now they have the AVR-1609 (the model just below this one) for $349.00 and you get this $198.00 !!!! Multi-Zone 7.1 surround tons of power for most all home theater set-ups and many options to boot... plus the Audyssey microphone and auto set-up works great and give your sound the absolute best sound in your living room possible!Try finding all of that in another 198 dollar receiver and not to mention the name brand... Denon ... they make very high end equipment that is actually part of best buys magnolia line up!!!The weakness's compared to the price are just a given.... there are no receivers out there at this price range that offer you the TrueHD audio codec for the newer blu-ray sound and that give you HDMI audio inputs. The HDMI will turn your 3 components into one input on the tv which may be great for those of us with only 1 or 2 HDMI inputs on there TV and will pass through the video and audio to the TV regular TV component viewing! This is not the cream of the crop but what it has, the brand, the power, the options, and just the overall specs of this unit... for the price you would be crazy no t to jump on this!I got the receiver with a 3 year extended warranty and shipping for a total of $217 !!! I was amazed at what i got for such a ridiculously cheap price! If you not a huge audiophile guy and need a great receiver for your components and don't need the audio in the hdmi inputs then there is no question for any other receiver at this price!Hope that helped with others who are on the fence with this unit!
