Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: great quality and value for the price

Weaknesses:Problem downloading software upgrade which is only available on the Sharp web site for PC not for Mac/Apple. Had to send to SHARP but there was a quick turnaround and they provide shipping both ways

Overall Evaluation: I would buy this product again and use this vendor, very reliable, good communication. This a terrific way to begin building your Blu-ray library, it has a number of features that are on higher priced models which really make a difference.

Review: Sharp BD-HP21U Blu-ray Disc Player

Its low price and on-board high-resolution audio decoding make it tempting, but the Sharp BD-HP21U fails to deliver a consistently great picture.

The Sharp BD-HP21U packs lots of metal--literally. It's large and heavy, so much so that you could mistake it for an old Laserdisc player. In the end, the fairly low price ($220 as of 2/18/09) gets you a Blu-ray player with only hit-and-miss image quality.
