    Duration of ownership: 3 Days

    Strengths: Published features and specifications.

Weaknesses:Software design is outdated and inflexible.

Overall Evaluation: Management software cannot be closed without going into Task Manager or turning the computer off.Cannot see of backup my second hard drive. Does not go into power saving mode. Therefore the disks continue to rotate and the casing gets very hot. That will lead to premature failure. Very difficult to install. Took several attempts. Came with FAT 32 file structure but after install the system recommended a reformat to change file structure to NTFS. After four failed attempts to reformat using the Maxtor utility ,I had to use the Hardware Manager in WINDOWS XP. It did backup most of the content of my primary drive as scheduled.

    Strengths: Firewire 800 interface

Weaknesses:the OEM backup software come with the drive is very "lite"

Overall Evaluation: This drive runs fast, with available firewire 800, in additional to USB ports. For better image stack or video archive, it needs to obtain other backup software. To use the firewire 800 speed, I have bought a Belkin firewire 800 PCI card since most PC motherboards do not come with firewire 800 port.

    Duration of ownership: 6 Days

Strengths: Very well constructed, nice features such as ports provided, convenient on-off switch, price.

    Weaknesses:software provided, used diskmgmt mostly.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this drive with high anticipation of using it with a PCIe, 800 Firewire card (SiiG), but that was not to be. Could not get the PCIe card to work, not compatible with my motherboard (Asus P5AD2 E Premium). The drive works great using a six pin cable, Firewire 400, so I'll have to be content using that. I'm sure my next motherboard will have Firewire 800 built into the board, and my Maxtor drive will be ready to go.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: This backup drive is so quiet and fast - it's a pleasure to use. Data transfer rate very fast with Firewire 400 - wish I had a Firewire 800 port on my PC

Weaknesses:Only slight problem with product support when they said the plug for Firewire 800 & 400 were identical. They are not - you need a different kind of card to use that cable.

Overall Evaluation: Very happy with ZipZoomFly. Fast and accurate order processing in addition to the best price. I recommend them any time. Will use again. The drive itself is wonderful, quiet, and super fast. Software management tools that come with drive could be more robust - is there an upgrade available?
