Strengths: Can listen to music, non-stop
Weaknesses: Need to make replacements on parts, soon, and often.
Overall Evaluation: Very popular gadget, got one for my birthday, and I enjoy it very much! Seems like the kids that use it more frequent, have more complaints. It's on every kids I know, wish list., So there you have it!

Strengths: Good interface, lots of gadgets available. Plenty of memory
Weaknesses: iTunes!
Overall Evaluation: We bought this for my son a year ago. It's been through all the things an 11 year-old can throw at it. Still working and looking great (though it's been in a protective case since day one). We like to use it with a Griffin iTune in the car. 128 kbps is NOT high enough quality for this application. We'd use iTunes if music could be downloaded at say, 256 kbps, but alas, it can't. I'm about to buy one for myself!

Strengths: Great video and sound quality, sleek body, easy to carry, large memory space,
Weaknesses: viewing video and photos can take up a lot of battery
Overall Evaluation: overall, ive been extremely please with my iPod. recently, ive had some troubles with it (its frozen), but i believe that its been fixed. its expensive ($300 is a lot of money!) but the fact that it can hold so many songs and video is incredible, and well worth the splurge.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Video Playback. Larger Screen. Larger Capacity. Smaller Size.
Weaknesses: Battery life seems low. Prone to scratches. A/V cable NOT included.
Overall Evaluation: I have not purchased an iPod until this new model came out. I personally felt that it was always just a bit too expensive, but now, with all the additional features for the same price, I finally felt that the price was right. Video playback is very compelling on the small screen, and looks surprisingly good when connected to TV (cable NOT included, unfortunately). I use not JUST for listening and viewing media, but also for presentations in my classroom. I am very satisfied with the new 5g iPod.

Strengths: Ease of Use, Sharp and Clear Colorful picture with great slide show, Perfect sound with small headphone
Weaknesses: Short of battery's life, very sensitive button, No AC adapter, Very often ERROR...FREEZE Screen, Quite complicated to download Video and Play in the ipod.
Overall Evaluation: It is worth to buy it but I have to pay extra for the AC adapter. Everything is extra cost for this ipod...nothing is ever included. Anyway, this is still the best one if compare to the other mp3 player.

Strengths: You need a radio station library to even get close to filling it up and that's a beautiful thing. Put it on shuffle and let it play. I've been known tp put mine on the JBL ring and work all day.
Weaknesses: Having to hook it up to and change the library on ITunes to lose, say, the Christmas music
Overall Evaluation: Great gaget, especally with upgraded headphones. You don't need the T.O. Bose Headphones to enjoy but the ear buds, though adaquit, are the weakest part of this device. Even Phillips ear phones are all it takes (for about $20) to get better range. Afterall the entire range of a tune is captured so get the output devices to do it justice/

Strengths: Can store lots of songs
Weaknesses: Screen cracks easily, poorest customer service imagineable
Overall Evaluation: I had the ipod for less than a month, when the screeen cracked. It wasn't dropped, sat on, or squished. I called Apple and they were rude and unhelpful. Basically, I am out $299 with a worthless piece of garbage. They need to improve the quality of their product

Strengths: All the great Ipod features plus video, long battery life with music only
Weaknesses: About 2.5 hour battery life with video
Overall Evaluation: I think the Ipod line is great and the 5th gen with video is no exception. It is very similar to the click wheel version but has a larger, very nice color screen. As claimed by Apple, it seems to have longer battery life when listening to music, but watching video drains it quickly in about 2.5 hours. The battery life limits its usefulness as a video player and I would suggest an external battery pack if you want to use this feature extensively. The video is small, but good enough for captive audiences stuck on cars, planes, etc. I use Nero Recode to convert the video to the right codec and format. Nero will convert DVDs if you use a ripper first. I use the PSP compatible format default setting in Nero and it compresses a two hour movie to about 1GB. I have also converted TV shows from my DVR computer without any problems. Occaisionally I notice blockiness, but overall the video quality is good enough. The kids love it. We travel frequently on long airline flights and this is a good way to entertain them. If you are looking for an mp3 player I can certainly recommend the Ipod. The video is not essential but it is a nice plus. You will probably want to get this version just for the improved battery life.
