  Overall Evaluation: I had owned a previous point and shoot digital and used it all the time. Then got a new camera bug...and spent many hours investigating cameras and finally decided on the Rebel. WOW...GREAT DECISION! I have shot more than 1200 pictures and am enjoying them, they look professionally done. Living in Albuquerque NM...the Ballon Fiesta was where I really really tested the camera out..you wouldn't believe my pictures! I took fantastic pictures out my back yard with a telephonic lense, got great shots as they flew over my head and also at the night balloon glow (you do need a tripod for night shooting). This is a MUST HAVE camera and worth every cent you pay for it...I recommend a good photo printer and your all set! I am shooting my daughter's family Christmas Photo's! LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  Overall Evaluation: I was not a SLR camera user before, I just used point and shoots. Then I saw this beauty and tried to resist. I went to the store 5 times to just look at it being it was so pricy at first( 1000.00) for the kit. Then I caved in and bought it and since that day I never have had one regret about making my purchase. I use this camera everywhere, at sporting events, on trips, family events and general action. With the use of my editing programs I can print out pictures at photoshop quality without really doing much to hte picture other than a crop or two. If anyone is thinking about buying this camera I say DO IT. Also the SLR lenses work great with it, I was loaned a lense from someone who had a regular rebel and they were even impressed with the picture quality that I was getting compaired to the 35mm. Also with the Flashcard and depending what file setting you choose you can shoot over 300 pics which means less rolls of film to carry. I have read other reviews that say this camera has problems but I have run across other users including professionals who swear by this camera. I just might by a second being the price is now starting to drop.

  Strengths: SLR; interchangeable lenses with my years-old film SLR Rebel; familiar feel; simple to use; easy to see review panel with true-to-life color LCD screen.

  Overall Evaluation: I waited a long time before buying a digital camera because I loved the quality of my film-based EOS Rebel. When Canon hit the market with this, I started getting serious because I didn't want my investment in lenses becoming a white elephant. I didn't buy from the cheapest internet store, but shopped for a good buy from a well-rated and trusted store. So I ended up paying about $900 for a camera kit (18-50 mm lens), flash card, and extra (generic) battery pack from my local camera store since some days I may take up to a hundred pictures and I like to use the preview feature. The results are just what I wanted -- the great quality of my film-based Rebel with its various lens configurations. I am a thrilled true believer. No disappointments.The camera modes are easy to understand and use, and would be, I think, to a new user as well as one already familiar with the film Rebel. I'm a serious amateur, just out to get the best on-the-spot pictures of everything from family to nature scenes, as well as more difficult on-the-fly shots as wildflowers and tropical birds. I don't see how it could be better for me.

  Overall Evaluation: I can't believe that PC World gives this camera a better review over the Nikon D70. It's a great camera, no question, but the D70 beats it in a number of areas including speed, flash sync capabilities, build quality, metering, and image quality. Take a look at any of the real photography websites for a better comparison of the two cameras. If you own Canon lenses already and are looking to get in to digital, then this camera is for you. If you are just starting out and will be buying lenses, or already a Nikon lens owner, then the D70 is the better camera, albeit a couple hundred $ more. The D70 is the best sub $1000 camera currently available, with the Digital Rebel as #2.

  Overall Evaluation: Bought this as a back-up for my EOS 1ds. This camera can't do close to what the 1ds can but at $6500 cheaper it makes a great emergency use camera. I bought this to take places I might feel uncomfortable taking the 1ds (protests in the garment district of the Republican National Convention coming up this August)

  Strengths: I just bought the Rebel today. It is everything it is advertised to be. It is easy to use, produces phenomenal pictures and has all the flexibility I had with my "film-based" camera.

  Weaknesses: It is a little large, certainly not a camera I would pack for an sightseeing trip when I want to travel light. But for excellent photos that can be enlarged to frameable art, I am very satisfied!

  Overall Evaluation: The price is comparable with other cameras with similar but slightly less features. The option to change lenses is outstanding. This camera has all a serious semi-professional could ever need. I had it up an running in a flash - smooth and soooo user friendly.

  Overall Evaluation: I have had 2 other digital cameras and this is the best and easy to use. The pictures are so clear. Everyone I email pictures cannot believe the picture is so clear.

  Strengths: Easy to use. No guess work. Also lets you be creative with many manual features.

  Weaknesses: No flash sync wire. Called Canon and asked If they had an adaptor for the shoe. And was told They Didn't Know. Thought that was odd. Also, you can't turn down falsh to 1/2 1/4 or 1/16 flash power .

  Overall Evaluation: I love this camera. I us it for a small buisness and find its versitility great. Price is OK at about $1000.00 for kit with lens. I bought it from Sams.com and got 128 cf card and extra battery for the same $1000.00. And that's enough to get you started. But add a couple of extras and look out. The $ adds up quick. The most over looked feature of this camera is the software that comes with it. You can connect to PC and use the instant capture feature. (Good only for at home and buisness use.) You don't even need a CF card.Also, if you are a person that likes to look at a little screen to take your picture. Forget it. This like all true SLR digital and film camersa use a real shutter so you have to look through the view finder. Sorry, no preview before the shot only after the shot. This is not the vacation digital that you can put in your shirt pocket or hang on your wrist, but if you want truly great pictures that are clear crisp and sharp, and you would like them 13 x 19 then this is the camera for you. One last thing, the AF is one of the fastes I have ever seen. And with 7 focal points that you can manualy choose one at a time. You can off center a subject with the AF and still get a great shot

  Overall Evaluation: After having owned three digital cameras of 1, 2 and 5 megapixels, I cannot believe the improvement in flexibility with this camera. I have long neglected my film SLR's because of the novelty of my digital cameras. This is real photography again. The autofocus works superbly and quickly. The body is light but sturdy. The controls are fairly intuitive, but I was helped by owning Canons previously. The cameral does not come with a memory card, but this is irrelevant since the standard 32 meg cards are totally inadequate. I purchased a 1 gig card which even at very high resolution can take at least a couple hundred photos. The battery has an outstanding life even with flash, and has not been a limiting feature for me. The price is fabulous for what you get, but you will need to invest in the memory card, and undoubtedly a few more lenses. I am reticent to use older lenses, even though they will work. The newer lenses offered by Canon seem the way to go.

  Strengths: Great SLR-type digital camera for a beginner. Not hard to learn to take great pics in a short period of time. I had mine open and was shooting within 15 minutes!

  Overall Evaluation: For those of you looking for a pro's opinion on this camera, I'm not your man. I'm a novice photographer, but love the art. I do a good bit of website stuff and I shopped for several months before settling on this camera.The thing that most impressed me with the Digital Rebel is the ability to change lens (SLR) and that sold me hands-down over other digital cameras with 4x,8x, or 10x optical/digital zooms. I shoot a lot of auto racing events and I knew that a camera that reacted quickly to the "fire" command was important without lag. The Digital Rebel does the job with ease!For anybody looking to get into a medium-priced digital camera, the Canon Digital Rebel is a must (if you can find one). It is incredibly easy to use, and you can even step up to some advanced techniques if you just spend a little time with the owner's manual.Battery life is excellent...uses easy to find compact flash cards...and the end results are stunning. Excellent color, sharpness, depth....it's just the BEST...especially if you're a beginner, which I classify myself.I highly recommend this camera...and I bet if you read reviews from other "pro" photographers, they'll probably recommend the Canon Digital Rebel, too! It's a rock-solid buy.
