    Overall Rating: 5 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:2 Years

Strengths: Great, Sharp Photos from 4x6 to 8x10. The 4x6 photo cartridge works very well for quick prints.

    Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: I bought this printer primarily for digital photos and was sold on Canon when I saw the 6 separate ink tanks. When an ink tank runs dry, you are prompted to change it and then the print job will continue, even while in the middle of a photo print. The print still comes out flawless. You would never know that you changed a ink tank in the middle of the process.I always keep an extra cartridge or two of each of the colors and can buy them in bulk for about $11.00 each. This printer is used daily and has had no problems for 2 years. The quality and reliabilty are so good that I bought the Canon 3 in 1 fax/scanner for my home office.

    Duration of ownership:1 Years

Strengths: Quality of color photos. Quick and quiet.

    Weaknesses: None.

Overall Evaluation: I've had this printer for over a year. The ink cartridges are expensive, but you can find sales at major retailers, and get good buys on eBay. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER USE CANON "COMPATABLE" INK!!!!!!! Did this...and the color quality really stinks.....hence wasting your money. Buy genuine Canon ink. I've heard (thru other posts) that quality can also diminish if you don't use canon photo paper. I've been using Kodak Glossy paper...and love the results. If I can get better results using Canon paper...I'll really be impressed. Printer is fast and quiet. Once you get the hang of it...changing ink cartridges is a snap...although they do last a long time unless you print many photos that have the same color/hues.

    Overall Rating: 5 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:8 Months

Strengths: fast, individual ink tank system, quality, USB 2.0, borderless printing, and good software.

Weaknesses: OEM cannon ink is expensive. OEM canon photo paper is ridiculously expensive as well.

Overall Evaluation: I bought it to replace my old Epson 875DC. I was replacing the ink tank of the Epson way too often. Compare to Epson 875DC, Canon i960 is faster, color is richer, more detailed, and cheaper (ink cartridge wise). I have heard that SOME aftermarket 3rd party inks are just as good as oem inks (some minor priting software tweaks may be needed to achieve the result). But I have not yet to try it out. As for photo papers, Canon is really picky about my Epson Glossy Photo Paper ($20 for 120 sheets of 8.5x11). The dark colors has a redish tint to it. Try as I might, I can not get rid of it. It prints perfectly on Canon photo paper.

    Duration of ownership:6 Months

Strengths: Easy set up! Very Fast! Has photo paper tray for 4x6 so you can keep that and regular paper loaded in unit and just turn wheel to select between the two. Great price!

Weaknesses: Canon and all other makers need to quit being cheap and supply cable. Your choice is to either spend a ton at retailer or save a few $ and order on-line...but wait for delivery.

Overall Evaluation: Was my first Photo-printer. I love it! I've printed over 500 pics since getting after X-mas 2003, never a bad pic. Ink tanks great system, buy your ink on line its nearly double at retailers. It will feed any brand of paper so I use the cheapest, all the paper looks the same once its in the frame anyways! I use it with my Canon A-80 digital camera and get many complements on the pic quality. In draft mode saves mega black ink. I looked at more expensive units from Canon and others. I would not even consider a HP since I feel their quality is lacking for the cost.A fellow outdoor sportsman gave me info that shows HP's political philosophy is avidly anti-outdoor sports, hunting etc. Very happy with my choice!!

    Duration of ownership:60 Days

Strengths: 6 ink bottles, extremely quiet, fast. Flawless operation thus far. Installation easy.

Weaknesses: The 4 x 6" attachment is rinky-dink, but works ok. Packaged software just so-so.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this as a photo printer to be used with my desktop based on reviews. I was comparing it to an Epson300. A computer store jockey said the Epson was way better than the Canon. This is my first Canon purchase. I have not been able to discern that the photo quality is any better than a 3 ink HP 882C. Paid about $160.00 online.

    Strengths: Speeds its fast

Weaknesses: The cost of every inks I don't use in a long time.

Overall Evaluation: I don't like how the canon inks effects my printing because I am a person who like to print once a while and I would like to know that one of the days that I decide to print that I would be able to use without worrying about my head on the cartridge drying up. I have been to the store a lot of time just to replace one of the inks that canon have claim to save me money but I been spending. Stop making me spend money on stuff that I don't need it. Canon at this rate will make me broke before this machines goes bad on the consumers.

    Overall Rating: 5 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: A wonderful, quiet, fast and extremely precise photo quality printer. Easy set-up. Interfaces seamlessly with Mac OS-X (from 10.2 to 10.3.2). Works exceptionally well with both PhotoShop and iPhoto.

Weaknesses: None...just a wish or 2 for future needs (see comments).

Overall Evaluation: I performed extensive research for a photo printer and agonized for weeks before making a purchase. Price was less an issue than top-quality (customized photo-lab) results. This printer does not dissapoint. Over the years, I was heavily into professional-level landscape, scenic and nature photography, using a Canon A-1, a variety of (mostly Canon lenses) and (usually) K-64 slide film. My work, always processed by an excellent, custom photo lab, enjoyed some sales when I offered it (which I usually didn't). Some of my work was published in Vermont Life Magazine. All this is mentioned because the reader should understand my level of expectations. There is no doubt that the Canon i960 easily produces output that is equal to the best custom labs. My current digital is a Canon SD-400, 4 MP camera, which I love. But, this, has made me realize that nothing but a digital SLR will really do for my type of work. That'll have to wait until next year. The installation was easy, as was aligning the heads. The machine seems well built and should withstand any regular use. Paper loading seems efficient and hasn't jammed at all yet. The same goes for the 4 x 6 inch paper feeder that rides in front of the regular paper feed. Ink loading is quick and I very much like that you can easily see how much ink is left using software. Nice that you need only replace one low cartridge at a time. Printing with iPhoto is just about as easy as it gets. No fussing with most settings. Just be sure to set Page Setup first for whatever size paper you are using. In PhotoShop you can play with as many settings as you wish, but often, with an excellent digital camera, this isn't needed for standard snapshots. You may have to experiment a little to get true borderless prints. The printer sometimes enlarges so that 1 axis (horizontal or vertical) is borderless, but the other isn't quite. This can happen particularly when you've cropped an image and it isn't in the 1:1.5 ratio of a 4 x 6 print. If you want borderless after cropping, you have to sacrifice the ratio of the cropped image for the paper size (unless you are going to trim the printed image). Not much of a problem to deal with. Just depends on what you are willing to have for final output. With this printer, my only regret (more like just a wish for the future) is that I now see the need for larger output (maybe the i9100, with 13 inch wide output). I used to produce images as large as 18 x 24 inches with the photo lab. Some images scale up beautifully to that size. This printer is limited to 8.5 inches in width and that's fine for much of my output. However, I purchased some Canon 13 x 19 paper, trimmed it to 8.5 inches and have successfully made wonderful, wide-angle scenics at 8.5 x 19 inches. (Yes, I know, most 4 MP images shouldn't scale up to that size. However, while 14 inches is quite reasonable for a 4 MP image, 19 is possible, depending on the detail of the image.) You're not limited to 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Be creative with your output...stretch it from time to time. The Canon Photo Paper Pro is wonderful, heavy and with a high gloss. Also, it has a life expectancy of 25 years or so. I've seen it mentioned that spraying a UV coating on the image will give it much greater life expectancy. Haven't tried that yet. This printer would be an excellent choice for anyone looking for really professional output, ease of use and setup.

    Duration of ownership:3 Months

Strengths: Excellent photos and fast printing.

    Weaknesses: Slight quirk during installation.

Overall Evaluation: The setup instructions were detailed and included photos but I did run into a quirk during the software install on Windows XP. After installing the first set of software programs the others failed until I rebooted my machine and tried again. There was no mention of needing a reboot in the instructions. I went with the default settings for the paper samples that came with the printer. Setup the photo paper feeder and printed a photo I had scanned. I was surprised at the speed and quality. I could not make out the individual pixels and the color was excellent. After framing the photo and taking it to work, no one thought it was done on a printer and couldn't believe the quality. The printer was purchased exclusively for photo printing and I plan to print custom sized photos for framing in picture albums. Excellent printer for that purpose.

    Duration of ownership:3 Weeks

Strengths: REAL photo quality. Prints look excellent.Very quiet in silent mode.Canon quality(all thier products have been excellent for me)CHEAP INKEasy to useDecent selection of options in settings

Weaknesses: Kinda costly up front, (but for its top of the line standing, its actually very good)Canon ink's are formulated signifacntly different than most others. ill explain the drawback below.

Overall Evaluation: Good- First id just like to say ive bought a few canon products over the last few years, and all of them have wow'd me. recently ive bought this printer, an i560(best value on the market in a printer imo, it prints **** near the quality of this for $100 less), and i bought an s400 elph 4 megapixel camera thats smaller than a small box of ciggarettes. it too performs awesome. Ive also owned a hp printer, and still do. I have deskjet 940(1200x2400dpi). the hp's prints arent even in the same neighborhood unfortunately. for those not familiar-the hp i have is 1 model year behind the canon, so its lower performance is to be expected. but the current hp's improved very little imo.(i sell printers btw) Ive been told most of the canon inks are water based, and for this reason they tend to be more picky about what types of paper they work well on. in my experience most work good though, but the canon paper asures you maximal performance. I had terrible results with some epson paper on my canons, it doesnt gloss. looks very dull, and this is not a matte paper.(same paper is glossy if used in my hp. Obviously each printer company is going to optimize thier paper for thier ink, and should be that way. We buy it from them because we expect them work together right? Also the people who complain about canon ink being expensive, YOUR WRONG. It's the cheapest of them all. You cant compare catridge cost, nor cost to fully replace all cartidges to other brands. only if you compare the price it will cost per page, while printing at a standardized print quality, printing the same images/text. You didnt do that now did you? lol a better way would be to compare the cost per ml of ink. you think those big hp/lexmark/epson cartridges are full? no way. Now they do have more ml's than canons, but canons are individual, as well as less cost per cartridge. again, thats why you should compare based on mthe cost per ml. But even that isnt a good way to compare. some printers use much more ink than others to print a page. hp is an ink hogg imo. Seems they set thier ink flow rates very high on standard quality. but the draft setting is frugal. goto zdnet they do all that for you, or at least as close as your going to get without doing it yourself. last i checked the canons were about HALF the cost per page. that means my $100 bucks of canon ink will yeild me AT LEAST $200 worth of another brand of comparable inkjet while producing a similar quality print. I want to stress the AT LEAST, because this uses individual inktanks. IF your have individuals, and decide to print 5 8x10's of a stalk of bananas, your going to be out of yellow pretty quick. with the canon, just replace the $11 yellow. With the average evil HP/Lexmark/Epson hahah, your replacing the whole $30-40 TRI-COLOR cartridge. Not many of us print lots of 8x10 pics of bananas but you get the point, the ink tanks will run out at different rates, and replacing 1 at a time WILL save you money. Possibly a lot. BAD- you will need to clean your printer heads occasionally. Canons awesome 2 picoliter droplet size is acheived by having the ink go through printhead. If the printhead gets clogged, or obstructed, you gotta clean or replace it. The software has a self clean utility where it wipes itself clean, and optionally will spray large amounts of ink out into the corner of the printer in an attempt to dissolve/blast off any crusted ink. it works well usually, but uses a lot of ink. BUT-If you print often, you wont even need to do this, or very rarely. But if you print once a month, your ink may dry up in the head, mandating a cleaning. The paper loads from the top. I wish canon would give up on that terrible design and do like HP does. The top load design is and always will be prone to paper jams. The most common cause is you not cleaning it though, the rollers build up lint and things dont work right untill cleaned. but even my new canon has jammed a few times with certain paper which I hate so much. The canon zoom browser software SUCKS! I say this cause it makes a copy of every picture you have for itself, which fills your HD quick, and can slow your computer down if your runnign out of space. But you might like it... MAYBE THE BEST REVEIW YOU WILL READ ON THIS PRINTER--------- IS.....do your own. Not many people realize, or take advantage of the SATISFACTION guarantee many retailers offer now. It means if you dont like it, get your cash back. MANY places will do this, but ill example best buy. I can goto a BestBuy store and buy 3 printers(or more/less) and take them all home. Open all of them, use all of them, use the ink, use the free paper, print as much as I want, and then take ALL 3 BACK, and get ALL MY MONEY back. As long as you bring back everything, w/ receipt> 30 days, in the origional boxes, (ink cartriges too even if empty), and they are clean/no physical damage, you get your money(not store credit crap). So why not try them yourself?
