Duration of ownership:2 Weeks
Strengths: Very quiet, does its job, light weight
Weaknesses: flimsy build
Overall Evaluation: I bought the Vantec Lapcool3 after it was suggested to me by a friend. It does a great job cooling my widescreen laptop down. Instead of pushing the hot air through the top (by the fans, like most coolpads do), it pushes the hot air out through the back. I really like this feature because it keeps my laptop cooler by giving it better ventilation. The Vantec coolpad is the quietest coolpad I've ever owned (I've had several over the last two years). It's very light weight and that works well for me since I have my laptop on my legs a lot for work. The only downside to the coolpad is when I put my laptop down on the table, sometimes the laptop will put too much pressure on the coolpad and the fans will stop. (This isn't a huge issue, just thought it might be worth mentioning). The fans start right back up once I position my laptop better.

Strengths: it reduces the heat in my laptopthe noise is almost unnoticableand it is small enough to fit in my bag
Weaknesses: no USB hub, but still good for the pricemight not fit bigger laptops
Overall Evaluation: I like this product. I just recieved it yesterday and started using it today. I ordered it because when summer is appraoching, I believe everybody can feel the difference of the temperature on the laptop. I spent a lot on my laptop, so I think it should be wise to spend a lit bit more to keep it longer.

Hope this continues for a long run.

Strengths: Quiet, Slim and Cheap
Weaknesses: No fan speed control, no power on/off switch, occupies one usb port
Overall Evaluation: This unit works pretty well for my dell 600m laptop with moderate heat generated. Quiet, and slim and portable. I can use the laptop on my lap without any problem. The drawbacks are it doesn't provide any controls such as fan speed control and power on/off switch. It doesn't have any pass-though connection, either, which means one usb port will be occupied without addtional usb power adapter. I'd recommend it to users who don't require powerful cooling functions and would like to carry it around.

Strengths: build quality is nothing special but not bad, either; design is efficent and simple; very very quiet fans; weighs just under 1 pound
Weaknesses: requires a USB port for power; *fans are NOT strong enough for heavy duty cooling with certain notebook computers (Dell 600m w/64MB Radeon 9000)*
Overall Evaluation: Before getting the lapcool3 I kept my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop elevated off the table surface for ventilation. This was not sufficient to keep the machine from freezing/underclocking itself when it overheated while playing games. My 600m has a 64MB Radeon 9000 video card and 512MB RAM; the 600m has only one internal fan for the CPU.When playing Doom 3 without additional cooling (in my case a large fan close by pointed directly at the machine), my 600m runs the game for about 5-10 minutes before the CPU underclocks itself to 400MHz or less, and the game becomes unplayable. This occurs when the RAM reaches 59 degrees celsius and the GPU reaches about 50 degrees. With the LapCool3, my computer still hits these temperatures in about 15-25 minutes; its normal use temperatures (RAM) are around 42 degrees Celsius versus 47/48 degrees without the LapCool3.The LapCool3 is probably most appropriate for laptops which don't need serious cooling help or which are running only basic windows applications. Also, it won't accomodate laptops much wider than the Dell 600m.

Strengths: This helps my laptop from over heating and makes it run more smoothly
Weaknesses: There is not much to say about the weakness of this product but it takes space in my book bag though
Overall Evaluation: This product is great for any over heating that usually occur during long hours on the internet. Having this cooler is a good investment, especially when laptops cost a lot and the cooler is there to have less problems for the laptop. I am glad that i purchased this product and most of my friends have recommended this to me.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Slim design, super quiet, excellent cooling result
Weaknesses: NONE
Overall Evaluation: Bought this for my laptop home use. I am using an ultraportable laptop. Since it is very thin, it is easy to get hot. This cooler falls into the range of cheapest ones, but has very good cooling performance. My laptop bottom is cold as ice now. The two fans are very quiet, not noticable. And I like the slim design very much. Very happy with it.

Strengths: Relatively inexpensive, quiet fans
Weaknesses: So-so build quality and effectiveness
Overall Evaluation: This is only an OK product. It is essentially a flat plastic enclosure for two fans that are powered by plugging into a USB socket on the laptop computer. When the laptop is placed on top, the fans are supposed to circulate the air underneath the laptop to remove heat. The fans are quiet, only a soft buzz compared to the noise of the fan in my Dell Inspiron 6000. It works best at keeping the hard drive from overheating the rest of the system. In this way, it does help the laptop's internal fan in regulating heat. The silver part of the surface is just painted on, and the paint job is not the best, either. There are uneven edges and faint smear of silver outside of the silver areas. Note that its size is 30 x 23 x 1.38 cm or 11.8 x 9 x 0.54 in. So, its surface is only slightly larger than a piece of letter-size paper, and it weighs only 15 oz. This small surface might not be optimal for a large 15.4" or 17" laptop.

Overall Evaluation: I've had the lapcool3 for a while now -- needed it to cool down my AMD Turion ML-28 processor while playing games or just doing anything else -- **** thing heated up too much. Lapcool3 ensured that the temperature stayed 30-45 C [ earlier, it STARTED from 50 C ]]
