    Overall Rating: 2 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Does filter viruses

Weaknesses: Noticable slows down computer. Was faw in install program causing it to lock up computer on update process. If you're not experienced computer user would not be able to install product.

Overall Evaluation: There are better products out there. It would be nice if software manufacturers, especially Symantac, would just make products that would install smoothly. Hard to find such products these days.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: okay taking care of viruses

Weaknesses: wouldn't pay rebate, bad customer service, program interferes with anything I'm doing

Overall Evaluation: bad rebate record. they say they didn't receive part or all of the submission. check www.rebatereportcard.com. It's near impossible to get a live person on the phone. As for the program, when it starts scanning my computer slows to a crawl.

    Overall Rating: 1 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:7 Months

Strengths: It kept viruses away like other anti-virus software.

Weaknesses: Slows the PC big time. Known RESOURCE drainage problems.

Overall Evaluation: For some strange reason, Norton decided to commit professional suicide by making its historically best sold product a resource hog in 2006. My relatively new Centrino laptop with 756 MB RAM drasticaly slowed down after installing 2006. For a while I was not aware why it was so. Eventually, Google searches revealed the NAV 2006 to be the source. After UN-installing NAV 2006 , the PC immediately gained its previous speed. I never though getting rid of a premium AV product would make me happy. Now, I am using critically acclaimed and "free" AVG anti-virus with its minimal resource usage. Intererestingly, I had been using NAV since 2000 and all older versions of Norton AV used to be great products. It is said that NAV 2007 will not have the same problems since Norton decided to listen to its customers. Nevertheless, I won't get to try it. Also, you will need to go to Norton website and download and run Norton's removal tool if you are installing this over the older versions of the NAV. Otherwise, NAV has this bad habit of not wanting to get out of your PC, even after the uninstall. I am now glad MS will no longer provide Kernel access to Symantec.

    Overall Rating: 1 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:3 Weeks

Strengths: Virus scanning capability similar to previous versions of Norton.

Weaknesses: Intrusive, difficult interface, addition of excessive (and potentially redundant) system processes, loss of RAM due to background activity, unpredictable behavior, CPU performance inhibition

Overall Evaluation: horrendous. the ONLY thing i wanted was antivirus SCANNING and PROTECTION. akin to the mcafee v-shield, norton autoprotect from my previous norton AV version, 2004, was fine...onintrusive and efficient, popping up only when a threat had been detected or to notify me when and why an internet script had been blocked.but this new "norton protection center" is the worst thing known to man. it forces you to DL all the windows updates - even if you uncheck the windows update component, it still attempts this every startup (unless you CTRL + ALT + DEL, task manager, processes, and end the process wuauclt.exe :) that's good lookin out ppl, trust me). it insists on running the protection center and a bunch of system processes that CANNOT be "ended," and there is no option to disable protection center. it schedules automatic scans at inopportune times, drags down memory and RAM, and is overall negative.i used to get by with four programs to fix EVERYTHING that could ever go wrong on my computer... jay loden's aimfix, webroot spysweeper, norton AV 2004, and registry mechanic. norton is attempting to do all of these in one, which would be nice if actually accomplished, but not at the expense of 90-95% of my processor's capability.one of the best things about AutoUpdate was the ability to make it ManualUpdate and do it whenever. Despite turning it off, stuff still gets downloaded on my comp all the time WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.Thumbs down, 1/5 on this product

    Overall Rating: 4 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:30 Days

Strengths: Good scans, runs in background but has pop-ups to give you updates on your system's security. Gold Standard as far as antivirus is concerned.

Weaknesses: It's a memory hog, which isn't a problem for me because I have a lot of memory, but that is something to watch out for.

Overall Evaluation: It's been a good product for me and sells at a decent price for what you get. As long as you don't have a problem with little pop-ups in the lower right corner of your screeen and have plenty of memory, it's a great buy.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Was unable to reap any.

Weaknesses: Ridiculous ~$30 per phone call for tech support. Chat option is equally ridiculous, I never was able to get a chat to actually get through. Product would not even install.

Overall Evaluation: Bought Norton Internet Security 2006.Was unable to install. Kept getting "Invalid Product Key". The software keeps you from entering wrong case. I double and tripple checked a multitude of times. After 5-6 e-mail go rounds with tech support they said to return the product. When I did, to the letter of the return policy, they sent back a response that I didn't send the product disk and envelope! Nor did they mention the status of the parcel when it arrived there! They did not say that it had been opened or anything. That proves to me that it made it intact!!! They have been THE most unsatisifactory, unaccessible company I have ever had to deal with to date! I used to have Norton on other systems which I had been using, "to my satisfaction", that when they come up for renewal, will NOT be renewed! Mcafee here I come!If your not a corporation purchasing the premium tech support, for get it! Totally dissappointed...

    Overall Rating: 1 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Good detection and good threats databse update response times

Weaknesses: Flawed design and resource usage - 50 - 100 MB of memeory and very intrusive scanning update processing

Overall Evaluation: Norton went strange way of product development - just check number of processes which run in background to protect you - currently 8 eating 60 - 70 MB of memory. During update that number increases to 13 with total memory footprint of 120 MB. Processes run with high priority what is OK in several situations but when it is almost impossible to do anything requiring your processor you know that norton antivirus update has just started. The very same for file scanning - instead of ding this as low priority task in background it blocks you from working. So my decision is to get rid of norton and find replacement.

    Duration of ownership:1 Days

Strengths: The Box might make a nice doorstop.

Weaknesses: Difficult installation, poor support, difficult removal

Overall Evaluation: I bought this product before checking the reviews. I figured Norton was a primary player so their product must be good, right?WRONG!!!I've wasted several hours trying to get this product to load and to activate. I finally figured it would be better to unload and take my loss, learn my lesson and find a company with a product that can handle the "tough" elements of allowing the people who paid you their money to actually install it.Call customer support? Only if you want to pay them $29.95 to help you install their product. What a deal! Just imagine some one in dark sunglasses walking around your home saying, "Hey, that's a nice computer you have there .... be a shame if anything were to happen to it, wouldn't it?"So it took me a while, but I learned my lesson. We all make mistakes, and buying this without researching the abundant warnings available as to how badly Symantec and Norton have slipped in customer service and quality product is just another lesson in life to be learned. I figured I'll just unload this and take my losses.Again, wrong. The program wouldn't even uninstall right. It took me 30 minutes to find a separate unistall routine on Symantic to remove this AntiVirus "Virus."This is the first time I've ever felt the need to give a product 1 star. I don't like complaining. Here, I gladly make an exception.I can't stress it strongly enough.DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!! You'll be sorry!Do your research. As you can see here and if you search the web, this is a product that has caused more frustration and is more useless than a transistor potato.BEWARE!!
