Duration of ownership:2 Years
Strengths: It's over priced
Weaknesses: You have to over pay for the product each year and they over charge you $30 t E-file
Overall Evaluation: This is my second and last year using Turbo Tax. The company over charges making users buy the entire software package each year and now it is being petty and over charging for E-filing, trying to get everything it can from users. Better products are available for less$$

Strengths: Software works fine and is quite convenient.
Weaknesses: They advertise a $14.95 e-filing fee and then try to sneak in a $29.95 "processing fee" that is unexplained anywhere. TOTAL RIPOFF!
Overall Evaluation: Don't e-file. And since they are sneaky bastards about the processing fee, take your business somewhere else. They go out of their way to hide the processing fee from you and present it as if it's totally normal.

Strengths: Easy to use, comprehensive advice, beginners can use easy step or experienced users can go straight to forms, very well organized
Weaknesses: none
Overall Evaluation: I have used Turbotax for 15 years. The product continues to improve. I have little experience with other tax preparation software. I have never felt the need to change from what I consider to be the best product.

Strengths: Covers a broad range if not the total range of the tax code.Navigation is improved over previous years. The ability to edit a form to override the interview process works.
Weaknesses: Does NOT import TaxCut data. One of the problems with the interview method is that often the program asks questions one does not know how to handle. The default answer has to be "No."
Overall Evaluation: This program is reasonably good and gets the needed results. I have traditionally used my Mac to do taxes rather than my PC because I preferred the interface and file management on my Mac. I used TurboTax for several years until it became obnoxiously difficult to navigate and then I switched to TaxCut for several years, finding it much easier to use. Unfortunately, Taxcut is no longer available on the Mac. I could have switched to my PC and continued to use TaxCut. The advantage to this would be the ability to import last years TaxCut data. I decided instead to try TurboTax again based on a discussion I had with a TurboTax rep at last years Mac show in San Francisco. He suggested they had worked very hard to improve navigation and it was worth the change back to TurboTax. As it turns out he was right.

Strengths: -Full featured-Download State software w/o rebate process-Now includes ItsDeductible
Weaknesses: -No more rebate for e-file-Moving through taxes is now more menu driven, so you might miss stuff.
Overall Evaluation: I've been using the computer-based turboxtax for several years, and I like that it fills in most of your information based on previous returns. Having said that, since my wife and I have both been in school and our adjusted income is below $50,000 it would have been much cheaper to use web versions for free taxes listed on irs.gov. Intuit's taxfreedcom web software is free for the federal return including e-file, plus $20 for state. Even if you're over that cap, the online versions may still be cheaper with the free e-file, as Deluxe online is $20+$20 for state, which works out to less than the downloaded version if you opt to e-file. The exception would be if you would get a lot of use out of the ItsDeductible software included w/ the non-web version (see below). Several reviewers have lamented the disappearance of Turbotax's rebates. On the one hand, it's nice to get the state return software without having to pay first and wait for the rebate. On the other hand, it is a bit of a rip-off that they no longer include an e-file rebate, so the product is essentially $15 more than it used to be. The new software has various tabs and menus, so you don't have to go through forms that don't apply to you. Although the step-by-step hand-holding of previous versions could get a bit annoying, at least you were sure that you weren't missing anything. The new format saves time but you have to know which tabs apply to your financial situation. If you are unsure, they now have a walk-me-through-it option which I assume is similar to the old interface. The other bright spot in this year's addition is the inclusion of Intuit's ItsDeductible. In previous years you had to pay for this add-on. If you donate goods to charity this will tell you what they are worth. It's nice to eliminate the guess work and not feel like you're cheating by claiming way to much, or screwing yourself out of a deduction by assigning too low a value to the goods.

Duration of ownership:3 Weeks
Strengths: loads easily
Weaknesses: does not do state return correctly
Overall Evaluation: TurboTax Deluxe does not do Missouri state return correctly. TurboTax help people have no experience with Missouri returns - they do not know whether it is right or wrong. Specifically, for persons who itemize deductions, Form MO-A, Part 2, Lines 8, 9 & 10, is supposed to separate the Kansas City or St Louis earnings tax from the ordinary state income taxes for purposes of computing the Missouri itemized deductions. TurboTax does not make the separation.
