Strengths: good picture for the price

Weaknesses: remote doesn't work for 2 minutes after you turn tv on, intermittent problems with volume and picture

Overall Evaluation: We bought this TV at Costco. The remote won't work right away when you turn on the TV, so you are stuck watching whatever channel and whatever volume for a few minutes until the TV and remote decide to communicate with each other. But sometimes it does work right away, and sometimes not at all, you just never know. Sometimes you can't get volume at all, even though it is showing the sound is supposed to be turned way up. Another day, there was no picture just a grey screen, and we couldn't turn the TV off - not even with the actual power button on the tv. We thought, okay this MUST be defective so we returned it (no problems there, Costco is great) and bought another identical unit. SAME PROBLEMS. Can't take the frustration anymore, this one is going back too and we'll just have to spend more money. I don't think I'd ever take a chance on Viewsonic again.

Strengths: Picture is good speed is good enough for high speed sports satelite through DVI

Weaknesses: No remote codes in spite of advertising on THEIR website It is not universal remote You can use a learning remote & I advise you do this as a back up

Overall Evaluation: Have not seen anything about Pic in pic in the menus & manual is extremely basic. Will need more time to evaluate but the no code issue is a big disappointment

Overall Evaluation: Buying a TV can be a long and complicated procedure- much like buying a car. No one type is right for all people. If you're looking for a large, widescreen TV that can display HD content and has several diferent types of connections (composite, component, HDMI), then you're at least looking at the right TV. The Viewsonic is a great TV with plenty of different viewing formats. It can also take 2 different coaxial inputs. For an LCD TV, this is a great model for the price. Everywhere that I have found this, it is priced at the same level that most other 32" TV's are priced. I have owned this TV for a couple of months now and have no qualms with it. My best suggestion to any of you thinking about buying this is if you can find it somewhere that has a liberal return policy (such as Costco), buy it from there and then try it out at home. I think you'll be pretty happy with it though.

Overall Evaluation: I just brought a brand new ViewSonic LCD TV with built-in HD tunner. It came with problems that the HD tunner has to change channel from high number to low number, or it will not show the TV program. Say you want to watch channel 5, if you were at channel 4, move up to 5, the TV shows no program. But if you move up to channel 7, then move down to 5, TV will show the program. It also often drop out the programs, while our other HDTVs made by Toshiba, Samsung, Screpter all working fine, this TV suddenly stop showing the TV progam and display "no signal". It is DOA, means it like this when we get it. I called ViewSonic for replacement. They asked for my credit card number to setup an advance replacement. I gave them my credit card number. But they shipped me a refurbished unit that was returned and repaired in the past. I paid a new TV price, ViewSonic wants me to accept their refurbished TV. I called their support, and talked to their manager. The manager told me that actually they had changed their policy again, since they shipped the refurbished TV to me. They no longer send out replacement any more. When you have a DOA, they will only repair it now. I had experience with Viewsonic repair in the past. One LCD monitor we sent last year for repair took over four months came back. Another Viewsonic HD12 HD tuner sent for repair got lost, after six months, they sent me a replacement. I am not sure I will buy another Viewsonic product any more.

Overall Evaluation: Despite its quirks, you'll quickly learn to appreciate this monitor. The picture is really good, as a computer monitor it is excellent. I hooked up my widescreen laptop and it is awesome. What's disappointing is that if you want to hook up a computer while watching over the air HD channels, you're out of luck. However, for the same price of many 32" tvs. This is a steal.

Overall Evaluation: I have recently bought our own 37" LCD HDTV at OnSale. Got a good deal on that online store. This Viewsonic LCD HDTV takes us to the next level of home viewing entertainment. It provides vivid and brilliant graphics and text. It gives high quality audio too.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this TV through Costco's website in April. At the time, there was a $200 rebate (more on this later). I have been happy with the TV in general. Picture is good, both on HD and non-HD channels, with easy setup, especially using HDMI. I was disappointed that when you watch non-HD shows that are widescreen (Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, etc.), the zoom feature will not let you zoom those shows to full screen. They will zoom up and down, but not side to side, resulting in a squished looking picture with bars on the sides. If you don't zoom, you will have bars all the way around, which means you are wasting about 40% of the screen.However, my biggest beef was with Viewsonic directly. The rebate they offered in April on the Viewsonic website said the rebate was available for "all resellers". However, a couple of weeks ago, I got a letter saying my rebate had been denied, because Costco was "not a valid re-seller". When I called Viewsonic, they said that in the fine print, they have the right to change the terms of their rebate at any time. When I asked them how someone was supposed to know this, they stated "they will get a rejection letter". This has to be the worst, most callous, most uncaring customer service I have ever encountered. Despite the fact that I like the quality of the TV, there are plenty of other good sets out there, and I will be returning this one to Costco. I don't want Viewsonic to have any of my money, and I want everyone else to be aware that this is the way they operate, especially if you are considering purchasing this TV through a vendor that does not have a liberal return policy. Buyer Beware!

Overall Evaluation: I bought this unit from Costco sight unseen, via an internet purchase, based on the price, included features and the other reviews. The unit was delivered via UPS in excellent condition (they actually had two drivers on-site to carry it in), and I would recommend other buyers to consider buying on-line as well. The primary application for this unit is in my family room where we have an XBox 360 with a 1080i HD output connected via component video cables (there is not an HDMI cable option for the 360 at this time), an 1080i HD cable box connected via the Viewsonic HDMI port, PS2 via standard video port, DVD player 480p (Progressive Scan) connected via component video cable and VCR connected via S-Video cable. So as it turns out the single HMDI input is not currently a limitation; however, when HD DVD players and HD-DVDs become common place I will wish there was a second HMDI port once we buy an HD-DVD player (BTW there are HDMI switches on the market today) The Xbox360 in HD is terrific, HD programming via the cable box is excellent, and all and all we are very happy with the product. I will mention that I also own a Philips 42" Plasma HDTV that I paid substantially more money for (also 1 HDMI input which was all that was available 1 year ago) and yes the remote control + UI are superior and the overall design more thoughtful, but with that said the price/value for the ViewSonic (after $200 manufacture rebate) can not be beat.

Strengths: HD Tuner, Cable Tuner, bright colors, good feature set, decent Standard Definition quality.

Weaknesses: Lacks Digital Autio out, 2nd HDMI/DVI input. Mediocre interface.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this TV/monitor after having a Samsung LN-R328W 32" LCD for 2 weeks. I put them side by side, showed the same content (they are the same resolution) and the quality was fairly equivalent. The Viewsonic also has a "Sharpness" setting that changes the interlacing of non-HD content. It makes things sharper, at the cost of sometimes noisy Standard-Definition content. I prefer to make things a little fuzzier/less sharp, since that way colors on SD content are a little more uniform and less spotty. The Viewsonic also has mode S-Video inputs than the Samsung as well. for me, since I have a ReplayTV and don't have HD service, the quality of the Standard Definition viewing was of critical importance, and the Viewsonic did not disappoint in part thanks to all the adjustments you can make. The interface could get a facelift, that's for sure. Changing the input from HD (ATSC) to SD (NTSC) requires more navigating than I care for in the menu system. It is occasionally also unclear what section exactly you're in, and sometimes knowing that you are actually changing an option rather than moving the selection can be a challenge. The digital audio input is important for some folks, though not enough for me to really dock points. What I really would have liked is a second HDMI/DVI input, but that was not a large enough issue (to me) to be a dealbreaker. A nice feature is that you can lower the backlight, so you adjust to your lighting contitions and arguably extend the life of your backlight. I wish it would get dimmer though - at the "000" setting, it is still rather bright. The VGA input makes connecting an average computer to the TV very easy, and World of Warcraft never looked cooler. ;) The main issue that I had with this particular purchase was trying to find a place where I could actually see it before purchasing. Amazon.com has a NO-RETURN policy for large-screen TVs, and Costco does not carry the monitor in store - only online. If you are lucky enough to have a Fry's Electronics store nearby, or a MicroCenter, then you can go and actually see this yourself. If you don't, you might want to check out Viewsonic.com to see their retailers - that's how I discovered Fry's carried it, and ultimately that's where I made my purchase (even though I'm not too fond of their general customer service, the service I got this time was quite good). All in all, this is a very solid TV/Monitor that has definitely earned the right to stay in my living room. I did end up returning the Samsung - at similar prices and features, the Viewsonic definitely won out.

Overall Evaluation: I set out to replace an old projection screen TV and shopped around for a 37 incher and wanted to attach my computer to it as well. Bought a Toshiba at first that had all the extras: cablecard; TV guide; VGA (crappy VGA - only 1 mode, cannot use full screen, etc.). I immediately returned the Toshiba once I found this Viewsonic on-line at Costco.ca. The specs were better than Toshiba and of course Costco has excellent customer service. No regrets upon receiving this. Picture is brighter and SD signals came out way clearer than the Toshiba. Haven't hooked up HD output yet but the Viewsonic (no surprise here) acts like a monitor giving me an excellent 37inch gaming/surfing monster. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it is solid. Best of all was the price: $500 less than the Toshiba. With that $500 I am now able to purchase a hard drive dvd recorder or HD tuner from Shaw digital cable.
