Duration of ownership:3 Weeks
Strengths: Labels don't peel off and no Sharpies needed!
Weaknesses: Lightscribe in "Best" mode does take some time to "burn" label
Overall Evaluation: Reads. Writes Cd and DVDs. Also throw that sharpie out lightscribe burns the label directly on the Media! No peeling labels, nice neat look. Lightscribe does take some time to burn, worth the wait ~ 15 minutes for list of album tracks.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: lightscribe, fast DL burner, 16x reader and writer
Weaknesses: none
Overall Evaluation: Not much to discuss with a dvd burner other than it works, and it does burn at full speed. And those who like lightscribe would like this burner. I recommend for anyone that burns media often.

Strengths: Reads and writes all media their specs promise. Fast drive. Excellent price, and comes with Nero 6.
Weaknesses: None
Overall Evaluation: I had a Plextor drive that died just after the 1-year warranty expired. The other reviews spoke favorably about this drive and the performance make it a steal at this price.

Duration of ownership:2 Months
Strengths: Excellent price, performance, features
Weaknesses: None really. Upgrading the LightScribe software improves label quality, at the risk of a longer write time.
Overall Evaluation: This is my first DVD burner, and I'm glad I waited to buy. I've had good luck with Lite-on CD-Rs in the past (as have family members for whom I've built PCs), so I decided to go with a Lite-on DVD. Thus far I've burned roughly 30 discs of various formats--DVD-R/+R, -R DL, and a couple CDs--and I've had just one problem disc; a Panasonic DVD-R that failed during verification following the burn. The disc was readable, but some data was recognized by Nero as corrupt. I'm very pleased, and I plan on buying a second unit for my wife's PC.

Duration of ownership:16 Days
Strengths: Support DVD-ROM, LightScribe, fast and quiet operation, good price
Weaknesses: None so far
Overall Evaluation: Initially after I installed the burner and updated the firmware, it kept on generating errors (from event viewer). Also, it wasted my 2 DVD+Rs by reporting errors during the burning and quit. The worse thing was that it refused to play any DVD. But later on I found the new drive came without setting any region. So after I fixed it, it became doing its job sincerely. It burns 4.5G data in a DVD+R in just about 10 minutes and plays DVD correctly. If this is the point to set the new drive, the manual should have addressed it. Whatsoever, I highly recommend it. It really is a solid buy.

Strengths: Inexpensive. Burn every CD / DVD I have. Relatively small size. Have not tried lightscribe yet. I am sure it will be great.
Weaknesses: Included Nero software is very limited.
Overall Evaluation: I have not updated the firmware yet because I have not encounted any problem. However, it is always a good idea to have the latest firmware. Highly recommend to get a full version of Nero or Easy Media Creator.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Quiet, fast
Weaknesses: DVD software that comes with it is not the best choice
Overall Evaluation: Arrived fast, was very easy to install - did not have to play with jumpers. Quiet and fast. Did not try dual layer so far, but single laet works good. The only annoying thing is the DVD-player software that came with the writer (simply did not like it). But the hardware works perfectly.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: All formats supported, LightScribe v1.2, UDMA-4 interface, scanning capabilities with appropriate tools.
Weaknesses: Can be loud at times, questionable DVD+RW/-RW burns, single-colored LED for reading and writing.
Overall Evaluation: Have had this burner for over 4 weeks and so far it has been very good on write-once DVD media. However, with DVD rewritables, the quality is questionable, as the laser strength might have been tuned down. The LightScribe feature is very nice and it has the newer version, which will save a few minutes from burning the image. The drive is also supported in a few scanning tools that can check the quality of the burns. Although the results can be subjective to the drive, but overall, it has been very consistent.
