Strengths: Very easy to set up.

Weaknesses: None. Works perfectly as advertised.

Overall Evaluation: This product works great. It saves so much money in the long run since this machine will let you have your fax and phone calls run together on just one line. It automatically distinguishes if a fax or voice call is comming and in no time it will transfer the call to either the fax machine or to your phone. Takes no more than ten minutes to set up!!!!

Weaknesses: None in my particular application.

Overall Evaluation: If you want to save the cost of a dedicated fax line this is the answer. Easy to set up and if you have any questions they have a toll free number for support. If you need a unit for 2 phone lines look at the ComSwitch 7500.

    Duration of ownership:2 Years

Strengths: Easy to install and set up, no line noise or interference, reasonably priced

Weaknesses: None, if more ports are needed, there are a number of other ComSwitch models that can accomodate you!

Overall Evaluation: I use this at home and at work. It is easy to install and set-up for all applications. It does not generate any line noise or interference like some other switchers I have tried to use. It is DSL compatible too! This purchase is to replace one with water/flood damage.

Strengths: The Comswitch was VERY easy to hook up and use. The phone jacks on the back are plainly and clearly labeled.

Weaknesses: The switching "uses up" one ring, which changes the way an answering machine answers.

Overall Evaluation: The Comswitch 5500 is very easy to install and use. It works exactly as promised.I only had one problem with setting up my phone system, and it wasn't the Comswitch's fault. I ordered "signal ring" (also called distinctive ring and selective ring by other phone companies), and at first thought the comswitch wasn't working. I unplugged it and called my selective ring number and discovered that my phone company had my signal ring programmed as 'short ring-long ring-short ring', NOT the 'short ring-short ring' required by the Comswitch. A quick phone call to my phone carrier and they reprgrammed my selective ring to ring with two short rings and the Comswitch then handled the calls exactly as promised.I now have my main number switched to my phone and answering machine, and my selective ring number automatically diverted to my fax machine by the Comswitch. I am pleased.

    Strengths: Easy to set up

Weaknesses: I had to use a distinctive ring service to allow other phones to ring in the house

Overall Evaluation: The unit features are everything as advertised. Good directions allow you to configure the comswitch 5500 to suit your personal needs. Because I wanted to use my computers microsoft fax, I needed to acquire a distinctive ring service from my phone company. I will have a dedicated fax number for about five dollars a month added to my single phone line.

    Duration of ownership:4 Months

Strengths: Does exactly what it advertises it will do, mainly to distinguish between telephone company ring patterns.

Weaknesses: Awkward to set up, using touch-tone services can inadvertently activate features on unit. Needs A/C power to work correctly.

Overall Evaluation: This is one of my best purchases all year. It does exactly as it said it would, which is to route distinctive ring patterns to the appropriate device. I have a PC that I use for incoming faxes, and I recently upgraded the operating system from W98SE to W2000. W98SE has telephony drivers that distinguish ring patterns, however, the 9X operating system is in my opinion, "inheritantly unstable". Upgrading to W2000 solved my stability problem, but left me without adequate telephony drivers. This device solved that problem by monitoring ring patterns and directing the appropriate ring to my fax, and the regular ring to my telephone. I have found at times that using my telephone to send DTMF tones for services such as banking services to activate features on the machine. Note - this may be disabled in the device, but I have not done that yet. It is somewhat complicated to set-up, but it does offer instructions (less then adequate, in my opinion), and a web-site. You can also call them for support. It also requires A/C power for the device to function, so if you lose power, it will not work. I have a UPS providing power to it at all times. A great product, but there is always room for improvement.

Strengths: Works perfectly and as advertised. Simple inistallation - worked immediately.

    Weaknesses: None.

Overall Evaluation: I wanted to do away with a dedicated fax line, since I used it only infrequently. This device allowed me to combine my fax with an existing phone line without any inconvenience. It works invisibly, and I highly recommend it.

Strengths: Very good Product, first one just went bad afer yrs of use.

    Weaknesses: cant find any

Overall Evaluation: this is a very good product and its my second one that I bought. The first one I had quite a few years and just purchased this one and it works great for one phone line. I dont have to be home to get a fax the unit sends the fax signal to the fax machine which is great. This is great for one phone line. Highly recomended.
