  Strengths:

  Weaknesses: Everything! Customer Service - Don't even bother, takes forever to get someone and when you finally do they are zero help. can not run anything else while scanning my system. takes 5 min for it to startup. Does not shut down on its own. Finds virus but cant always remove it. I paid 50 bucks for this program. Worst investment ever!

  Strengths: Fast - though for using a majority of the processor, it should. It is decent at scanning - but nothing that amazes me over the free ware. 3 user license - which is still more than the free wares!

  Weaknesses: They want more and more of your money! You can't update your software without ADWARE from Spysweeper coming up! Slow tech support.

  Overall Evaluation: The free programs do the same job. I just happened to have $35 I wanted to give away rather than get the softer toilet paper. If you have any problems, SpyBot S&D and Hijack this were both WAY faster in the response. The interface is very frustrating when you get pulled into their site being asked to shell out more money for a greater feeling that you are safe. Sadly, I think this company got a big head from the over hype.

  Strengths: Detects and prevents spyware infections, Can be had cheaply after rebate

  Weaknesses: Uses more resources than it should

  Overall Evaluation: WebRoot is one of the better tools in the anti-spy marketplace. It does a good job of detecting and preventing spyware infections. So, in that sense, it does its job quite reasonably. Also, it is easy to use and update. The downside is that WebRoot, like most of its competitors in this space, consumes more system resources than you would hope. WebRoot is not as bad as some tools, but it still could be improved upon. In short, this is one of the better anti-spy tools out there, but it has some way to go in order to be my ideal spy fighter.

  Strengths: Price was great-free after rebate, and installation was no problem

  Weaknesses: None so far

  Overall Evaluation: I like this software in its price, installation, function and its customer support service. Got it free after rebate from circuit city two months ago and installed in my windows 2000 since. It works well for me. It does not slow down the system, which is really good. It detects most of the spyware and scan speed is great. Over all, i am very satisfied with this product from webroot.

  Strengths: Excellent detection ability

  Weaknesses: None

  Overall Evaluation: Spy Sweeper successfully picked up junk that other products (from Microsoft and AdAware among others) failed to detect. I think a good active antivirus program is the best way to prevent your computer from getting infected, but if things slip through the net then Spy Sweeper does a good job of catching them. Just remember to "sweep" often.

  Strengths: Robust, easy to use. Support Windows 2000.

  Weaknesses: Slow, Resource hog, NO version number on the package!

  Overall Evaluation: This is a small name software against spyware. It's robust and easy to use. But I am not sure what is the value added comparing to the free spy-bot SD. It is a resource hog and will slow your computer if your pc is an old one. The packing also needs improvement. I tried but cannot find any version number on the package at all!

  Strengths: easy install, strong search engine to find sypware

  Weaknesses: only 1 year free update

  Overall Evaluation: Webroot is one of the bests out there provide anti-spyware products. It can find spyware that are not detected by microsoft defender and some other major brands. It updates frequently to get the latest spyware definition. This could be one of the reasons that it is better than other anti-spyware. The free update works only for one year and then you need to renew it by paying again, though that's typical for most of the security software.

  Overall Evaluation: I installed this hoping that it will catch all spy software on my laptop but I found that it made my computer slow and also it failed to detect spyware on my laptop. I unistalled and installed CA anti spyware and it found and removed spyware on my computer. Not very impressed with this software and pissed at waste of money on this.

  Strengths: comprehensive spyware database, and detection

  Weaknesses: bit costly

  Overall Evaluation: I have used Adware for a long time to detect adware, but while it's a good product, I found some other spyware programs detected spyware on my hard drive that were undetected by adware. And other spyware software, while good at detection, often failed to remove the spyware, hence, I looked for a perfect spyware software that won't cripple my system and at the same time, would be able to keep my computer out of spyware. Webroot's Spysweeper, I found,was highly rated everywhere, but there was one problem: I would need to spend money on it. But as you can see, I broke down, and bought it, and let me tell you this: it's worth its value. It detected some spyware that wasn't even detect by any other freeware, and more importantly, removing them was a piece of cake. It's very light on my system, so I have to say, I am happy with my purchase. The peace of mind it gives is worth the price.

  Strengths: cost

  Weaknesses: resource hogger, difficult to install and use

  Overall Evaluation: Installed this software on my pentium M notebook which has 1 GB RAM and found that the Notebook will just go into hang mode after restart. The webroot software tooltip message says wait for 1 min but that min never completes. I tried opening my IE but it also hanged. I had to uninstall this software before my laptop worked again.
