Strengths: Great priceEasy setupGreat picture for the money
Weaknesses: Remote challenging to navigateInstruction manual lacking
Overall Evaluation: This is our first purchase of a LCD TV, and we are very pleased so far. We paid $999 for it new, in the box. I think it may have been on clearance. The setup was easy, and we had a clear picture from the start. We were not able to find instructions on removing the stand, but we decided to set it up on a shelf instead of hanging it on a wall anyway. We were pleasantly surprised with the picture quality when using the DVD player.... and we have not even installed the HDMI cable yet! Remote control took some getting used to, but we are getting the hang of it. Overall, super value for a 40" LCD w/ built-in DVD!

Strengths: Picture is bright and sharp.
Weaknesses: Quality of parts, support.
Overall Evaluation: I got my Westinghouse LTV40W1-HDC 40 LCD TV/DVD Combo 4 month ago and have had problems with it from day one. Let me say that the TV has awesome picture and is perfect for me... when it works. The sounds always changes to internal speakers when it is power cycled. Every time I want to use my home stereo for my sound I need to open the menu and select external speakers. If you turn it off then on again you need to set it up again. This sounds minor but having to do this every time is getting old. It also will default with the subtitles on when a movie is played with the integrated DVD player. This too needs to be shut off via the menu every time. Also, getting old.Westinghouse told me Integrated Automaton International is the company that would fix this and they made a ticket for me with them. After about 8 calls 6 e-mails and 4 months I have yet to talk to a soul at IAI to even schedule a time to resolve this issue. Westinghouse told me I could ship it back to them but I would have to pay for the packing of the TV and they have no idea how long it would take to fix the issue.About 2 months ago any analog video input to the TV was unwatchable; it looked like a scrambled cable channel. I got the TV at Best Buy and Westinghouse told me to take it to them and they would fix it. They had the machine for over 3 weeks before I got it back. They had to replace the main board on it and despite my begging, they didn't resolve the firmware issue.I would not recommend this set to anybody despite its low cost and great picture quality. The set seems prone to breaking and the quality of support offered by Westinghouse and their third-party IAI is abysmal.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Bright scenes look great, variety of connections, DVD player
Weaknesses: DVD player, dark scenes, fill mode, remote
Overall Evaluation: For the price, I don't think this TV can be beat ($1200 at Best Buy). It took some tweaking, but the picture quality is excellent overall in bright scenes. Very dark scenes get a bit splotchy at times, but are OK at a normal viewing distance after tweaking. The slot-loading DVD player works fine -- I don't think it's an advertised feature, but it even played DIVX and XVID discs! But every time you put in a DVD, it automatically turns the subtitles on. This is quite annoying. The remote is not very intuitive, and it takes more steps than it should to turn the subtitles back off. Unfortunately, the remote also uses many of the same infrared codes as my Sony receiver, so I have to point it at a strange angle when controlling the TV so as not to affect the stereo receiver simultaneously. The digital SPDIF audio output works fine with HDTV and DVD, but I haven't tried it with analog channels. The fill or stretch mode is lame -- I think it just zooms and stretches the picture to fill the screen, but the algorithm it uses is pretty basic, unlike better units that stretch the image more toward the edges and less at the center.

Strengths: Great picture and superb price.
Weaknesses: Sound volume between DVD and TV dramatically different.
Overall Evaluation: I had been searching for an HDTV larger than 32" for several months a before I finally found this 40" LCD/DVD Combo. I fell in love with the Phillips 42" Plasma HDTV with Ambi-light. After viewing the Westinghouse 40" LCD I found it to be the better value with great technical quality. I found that when watching stations in HDTV and DVD, I have to turn the volume up significantly higher than while watching normal TV stations. The built-in DVD player and it works great with a variety of DVD formats. The PIP/POP/PBP function with a DVD and TV works fine as well. On-screen Menu is simple to navigate through. The manual is incomplete, it doesn't address the removal of the stand for wall mounting.

Strengths: Price, build quality, Built-in HD tuner, bang-for-the-buck
Weaknesses: Need to spend time "tweaking" picture to get it right
Overall Evaluation: It took me about an hour to get the picture quality right. The images will look "washed out" at first, but making adjustments to the contrast, color temp and brightness can go a long way on making the images look very good. OTA HD ,using the built-in tuner, looks fantastic. I watched the Sunday Night Football Redskins vs Cowboys on NBC and it blew me away. Made my older JVC 56" widescreen HD rear CRT TV look...well..old. This new Westinghouse TV is in my bedroom and the wife is very happy. Overall this is an excellent value (I paid $1259.00 at Crutchfield). Read the review by HDTVexpert that convinced me to buy the TV. http://www.hdtvexpert.com/pages_b/LVT-40W1.html

Strengths: Easy setup and controls. Convenient DVD player built-in.
Weaknesses: Volume is different between HDTV and SDTV.
Overall Evaluation: I had been looking for several months for a HDTV before I finally purchased this one. The last time I purchased a TV was ten years ago, so the difference is dramatic. Setup was easy. I just connected a VCR, coax cable, and Xbox 360. I ran a scan that took a few minutes and then I was watching TV in a matter of minutes. I did not make any adjustments to any of the settings (color, brightness, etc.). Football games in HD look amazing. When watching shows in HDTV, I have to turn the volume up much higher than when watching regular TV. I tried out the built-in DVD player and it worked just fine. I also tested the PIP function with a DVD and TV. I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a nice LCD.

Strengths: Great picture, reasonable price
Weaknesses: set-up and manual directions
Overall Evaluation: So far, so good! We love our new LCD TV. We weren't really looking for one with a DVD built in, but it's a great extra feature and very easy to use. This was the most reasonably priced LCD in the 40" range that we could find. We also liked the Sharp Aquos, but in the end, this TV offered just as nice of a picture, but at a much better price and with the DVD besides. The set-up manual looks clear and easy, but we just didn't get it the first time through. The viewing angle is very wide. The color does wash out somewhat, but not until you are almost completely to the side of the TV. The HD stations are amazing! Overall, we feel like this TV was well worth the price and allowed us to have all the newest features at a price we could afford.

Strengths: Great combo - all a child has to do to watch a DVD is to push it in the slot - turns on, switches to DVD player and starts.
Weaknesses: User's Manual.
Overall Evaluation: Manual sucks - had to call just to find out how to remove stand for wall mounting. The manual simply repeats the name of the function rather than give a decent explanation. Couldn't get decent audio to my analog home theater. This is a good starter HDTV for the price. Adjustment is a little touchy though. Although it has a good viewing angle - could view out to almost 90 degrees, but the color does wash out a bit as you start moving more than about 20 degrees. You have to be almost in front of set to get the remote to work - rather annoying.

Strengths: Sharp and Bright Pictures, DVD Player Combo, Very Affordable Price
Weaknesses: None
Overall Evaluation: I was looking for an LCD TV that I could mount to the wall of my living room and I found this model at Best Buy. Originally I did not even think about getting a DVD combo unit but when i realized that I was going to wall mount the unit, it would be easier for me to set up the whole environment without having to add an extra DVD Player. Also the price of this TV is much less than Samsung or Sony that do not have the LCD TV so I see it as an added feature rather than added cost.-When I turned the TV on after getting the whole wall-mounting done (it did take two of my sons to help me), voila, what a great picture. The first DVD i put on was the Revenge of the Sith and I was at awe. I was a little concerned with Westinghouse brand because they are not known for LCD TV (even though they did have TV products when I was a lot younger), but that concern quickly went away.-So In summary, I found this product great and does deserve a 5-star because:1. Great picture quality2. On-screen Menu is easy for me to navigate3. Absolutely Great Price4. Built-in DVD Player5. No issues what so ever.
