Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Good price, prompt delivery
Weaknesses: OEM version - no updates
Overall Evaluation: While advertised as OEM version which I understood to mean that no box or frills, I also found out that this version does not qualify for updates, even though all other versions advertised to include lifetime updates - Not a problem if your phone is listed within the current list of motorola products, but new phones could be a problem as you will be unable to obtain their profiles from the software provider.

Strengths: Many features. Good User Interface
Weaknesses: Has trouble connecting with some phones. Drivers not up-to-date, even after product update.
Overall Evaluation: This is a good tool for your Motorola phone...if you can get it to work. I have a RAZR v3m for Sprint, which is in the list of phones that work with this tool. However, after hours of searching into why I couldn't connect to the phone, I finally found info on drivers right from Motorola's website. They say to install MPT4.0, and THEN update drivers using their own driver update software. If Motorola endorses MPT, why doesn't it have proper drivers for their phones? Even after doing this, some apps within MPT seem to have trouble running, connecting with the phone consistently, reading info from the phone which should be readable... I had to tell MPT that I actually had a different phone than the one I own in order to get the MultiMedia Studio features of MPT to work. That really shouldn't be necessary The features in MPT that have worked consistently for me are great. I can save files to the phone's external memory card without having to remove it from the phone (although putting the card in a card reader gives you a much faster transfer speed). Adding ringtones is easy with MPT; so is saving photos to your PC from the phone. If being able to interface with your phone through a Bluetooth connection is going to be a selling point for you, you may want to reconsider. I've never been able to get a Bluetooth connection to my phone within MPT. However, connecting via a USB cable is not only faster than transferring through Bluetooth, but you will also be able to charge your phone as you transfer files, this is definitely the way to go. Overall MPT4.0 is a good tool, if you can get all the features to work.

Strengths: Unwilling to risk consequences to find out.
Weaknesses: Consequences of use.
Overall Evaluation: It was advertised to work with my Motorola Razor v3c, and it fact it probably does. When it was received we had to e-mail back for a "work around" to make it work with our phone. We promptly did receive this work around instruction. The problem is that this procedure warns you that it could in fact "fry" the programing installed by Verizon thereby rendering the phone useless. I think it is much safer and easier to simply pay Verizon and add the transfer function for the monthly rate. Propriatory?? Yes it is.

Strengths: Easy to install & use
Weaknesses: Doesn't support Outlook yearly reoccurring events
Overall Evaluation: This product is a simple and usefully solution for keeping your phone contacts up to date as well as a basic calendar tool. The limitation with the calendar, is the inability to download yearly reoccurring events from outlook.

Strengths: Easy data connect / Supports cable, IR, or Bluetooth
Weaknesses: Lots of bugs / Slow / Only syncs on startup (optional) or manually / Doesn't support partial sync (single entry, etc) / Poor calendar integration / Miserable phone tech support
Overall Evaluation: I thought it would be great to use my phone for emergency data connectivity and as a temporary replacement for a PDA until I could decide which PDA to get and to finally get a backup of my phone, since it's only a matter of time before this Motorola phone freaks out and my data is lost like so many phones before (I know - I'm stupid for continuing to buy Motorola products - whatever). I got MPT 4.0 (the latest version) on the cheap at a Pricegrabber storefront. I probably should have let it register and update before I ever let it talk to my phone, but who would have guessed that I could never use Live Update after that.I connected my RAZR V3 and several bugs became apparent. I forgot what most of them are (until I run across them, again), but I can remember some: When a calendar entry has to be truncated (phone only supports a certain length), I eventually end up with multiple copies in the phone and on my PC. If I try to edit entries in the phonebook from the PC, they don't show up correctly until I download the entire phonebook, again. Recurring appointments often don't end when they're supposed to (or they don't recur correctly). Most of the methods to retrieve SMS messages from the phone don't actually work (even if MPT knows that there are new messages). But, by far the biggest bug is with Auto Update: I figured I'd see if I couldn't update the software to resolve at least some of the bugs I was fighting with. It tries to run Auto Update every time I start, saying that I need to update the software. So, I went ahead and started it once. It downloaded some patch and went to install it. But, as soon as it went to install, WinXP blue screened (crashed). At first I thought/hoped this was a pretty wild fluke, so I gave it a few more shots. I've tried shutting down all of my other programs and running it, and such, but it never fails... to fail.Logically, I called Motorola tech support about the issue and the oh-so-unhelpful lady on the other end argued that I didn't need to upgrade! I asked if I couldn't just download the update somewhere, and she brilliantly said that I could download the latest version from Motorola's website... of course, I'd have to PAY for it, again! Okay, so I pressed the point, and she recommended re-installing. Well, I didn't have the CD with me, at the time, so I let her go. When I got the CD from home, I uninstalled (letting it delete all of my data and settings in the hopes of giving it every chance of succeeding). I restarted and let it register and auto update before talking to my phone, this time. And, what do you know... BSOD - Blue Screen, again! Well, that's isn't that just the cherry on top? Maybe I'll close all of my open apps and call support, again, someday when I need a good laugh. So, I know there's folks out there (like I might be) that are going to think that I'm just some grumpy impossible-to-please id10t that probably had to take my coffee mug out of its cup holder, so I could put the CD in to install this software. So, to those folks, I encourage you not to waste any more money than you have to and get the cables and everything from a Pricegrabber storefront (I got mine at the malcomwireless storefront). I highly doubt the place of purchase had anything to do with the issues I had and I'm really glad I didn't waste all the money it would have cost at Motorola's site. And, who knows maybe you'll have a much better experience than I did and never run into any of the bugs I did. Good luck with that. :]

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: allows you to use your own images & mp3 files as art/ringtones on your phone, PDA features on phone much easier to use
Weaknesses: didn't appear to work w/ my bluetooth adapter very well
Overall Evaluation: Works pretty darn well -- you can move your pix, songs, contacts, and calendar entries back and forth from your computer and your phone. You can even splice the songs, crop the pix, and use Motorola's built-in Outlook type interface if you don't have the programs to do that already (granted, they aren't the greatest programs in the world, but functional).Still, it'd be nice if Motorola's bluetooth driver didn't keep trying to overwrite my exisitng driver for the bluetooth adapter when I tried to connect w/ it (I finally gave up & connected via USB). Also, for what the program was, it didn't really seem like it was worth the retail price. I got it for like $10 OEM, which I thought was about the right value.
