    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: Great Range. Can cover my 2800 Sq. Ft home easily and I can even get signal near my upper floor bedroom which always had problem with my Super G product.

Weaknesses: Needed to upgrade to latest firmware. Took just 2 minutes though

Overall Evaluation: I recently moved to a new home and was facing connectivity problems - intermittent connections, dropped connections and dead spots. I got the Gig edition of RangeMax NEXT from Netgear. Super fast speeds... close distance speeds of over 100 MBps. No dropped skype calls from any part of my house... this worked great. I had downloaded several vacation videos on my desktop PC in my study. I video streamed them to my daughter's laptop without any problems. I say guys go and get it.. WiFi has reached yet another level of performance, range and reliability!

Weaknesses: Connection drops on my PS3, Couldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t even connect with my Wireless G laptop.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this on recommendation from the salesman at Fry\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s and because it was $40 cheaper than the Linksys 350N. Hooked it up and immediately noticed that the admin software is incredible slow.. Each update takes a couple minutes to take effect.More importantly, when gaming online with my PS3, the connection dropped every 10 minutes. This NEVER happened before with my Linksys Wireless G router.I couldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t even connect my Dell laptop to the network at all. I have NEVER had a problem connecting to a wireless network with my laptop.Complete crap.. I returned it to Fry\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s and got the Linksys 350N, and was up and running in no time. No dropped connections, and the I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m composing this review on the very laptop that couldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t connect to the Netgear router.

Strengths: Good range, fast, gigabit connections

    Weaknesses: None so far

Overall Evaluation: Very good router for the price. Haven't had the chance to try out the Wireless N capabilities, but the G seems very fast. Got a good deal on it, so it's serving its purpose well.

    Duration of ownership:7 Months

Strengths: Fast wired connections as well as wireless.

Weaknesses: minimum one minute wait with every change in settings, PRODUCT DIES AFTER 7 MONTHS.

Overall Evaluation: I loved this when I first received it. Setup was easy but annoying due to the 1 minute wait with every change in settings. With the latest firmware, I never lost the wireless connection. The speed was phenominal. Unfortunately, the unit died. I searched in the Netgear forums for similar issues and found MANY. Apparently there is a defect with the product. Even replacement products die after the same period. I just fought with tech support to get an RMA and to have them pay all the shipping (to/from). I totally expect the replacement unit to die within 7 months at which time it will be out of warranty and I'll need to spend more money to buy another product. This is a terrible investment!!! Go with something different!!!

Strengths: Draft N, wired Gigabit ports

Weaknesses: flaky firmware, poor feature support, worst: unreliable hardware

Overall Evaluation: I purchased two of these when they first came out in June 2006. I had many problems at first, eventually mostly resolved by firmware upgrades. Never fixed: viewing connected devices was not accurate, so you had to manually enter the MACs when enabling filtering and you could never tell who was trying to connect. My first unit died (only power light would come on) in March 2007, and after a lengthy discussion via e-mail I finally got it RMA'ed. My 2nd unit was put in service during this time. It just died last week (October 2007) after just 6 months. Same symptoms. This time, Netgear will not RMA it. Clearly a defective product in use only 6 months, but because it was purchased more than a year ago, they will not stand behind it. Cannot recommend this brick and I am now looking for a more reliable draft-N router.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: was easy to setup, get consistent signal all over my apartment, got a great deal on it

Weaknesses: no included manual(?), takes over a minute to save router configurations

Overall Evaluation: I recently got a new laptop and so decided to take the plunge and get a wireless router. I'd been using one of the old school blue metal netgear wired routers for the past 6 years and it has never failed me so I figured I'd go with netgear again as I've had problems with dlink and linksys equipment in the past. However, upon reading reviews of most wireless routers it seemed like it was going to be total hit and miss. But when I saw this baby on sale online for $46 I decided there wasn't going to be a better deal than that (considering it's $120 at the local big box retailer). I got woken up the day it arrived by the DHL dude at 8:30am. Delivery only took 36 hours (ground) from Ohio to Southern California! I figured I'd try and set it up before I went to work that day. I took it out of the box. I was surprised there was no manual, just a note in the box from Netgear saying "The current installation guide and software may be downloaded from the Netgear website" Kind of annoying if you don't already have an internet connection. Anyhow so I hooked everything up and went to 192.168.1.1 to log into the router. When I logged in it asked me if I wanted to check for new firmware, which of course I did after reading all the horror stories about people with old firmware. It took about 2 minutes to update and reset itself. When it booted back up I did the "install wizard" which after about 3 minutes told me that it had detected me having a static IP. Knowing this was wrong, I decided to set it up manually. I should have done that to begin with as it was a breeze. A few minutes later (mostly waiting for the router to reset itself, which does take a long time but seriously once you get this thing working how often do you need to mess with it?) I was up on the internet via my new laptop. I had ordered the laptop with the Intel-N wireless card which seems to be working problem. Speeds are fast and in my 900 square foot apartment I don't get a degraded signal anywhere. I can even go outside with it. I've only had it for a week and so far it hasn't dropped any signals (using the wired or wireless ports) or reset it self randomly so I'm pleased. I'll come update this if I have any other problems. I don't need to do anything crazy with my router so I don't know about what features it should or shouldn't have, so if you're just interested in having a fast reliable connection to the internet all over your house then I recommend it.

    Strengths: SUPERB range and speed

Weaknesses: Setup, at least on Vista 64-bit, is cumbersome.

Overall Evaluation: Off the bat, let me say that I would purchase this router again, despite the problems I had with the installation. The distance, through 3 walls, is still about 120-150 feet. And through one wall about 200+ feet. During configuration of my router, even after upgrading to the latest firmware (1.4.19), it hung on restart. The best solution was to unplug the router for 1 min, restart, and continue. Usually it would manage to save the changes I had made, it just didn't boot back up properly.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: has integrated gigE

Weaknesses: Range is abysmal, expensive, max throughput is nowhere near 300Mbps

Overall Evaluation: I am a consultant for SMB networks and high end home networks. As such I was salivating to get my hands on anything "draft-N." I placed orders for all the gear recently announced and the only set of equipment I received thus far is the RangeMax Next (based on Marvell draft-N chipset). I figure all the draft-N gear is unlikely to be upgradable to real 11n, but if the performance is there, it might do the trick for some of my customers. The bottom line is the performance is not there. I have a fairly rigorous performance course set up across my 3700 SF home, and I use iperf (free performance measurement tool) and timed FTP transfers to measue TCP/IP throughput at differnt locations. I was disappointed to discover the peak throughput I could get from the RangeMax Next router to the acompanying cardbus (I ordered the bundle) was about 75 Mbps, about 30 Mbps lower than what I measured with the RangeMax 240 and the Linksys SRX400 ... and go one wall away and you can cut that number in half. In addition, the RangeMax Next could not cover my entire house, even for web surfing. Where it dies off I can still get upwards of 50 Mbps throughput with the RangeMax 240 or SRX400. Given the high price, poor performance, and uncertainty about upgradeability, I will continue to recommed the RangeMax 240 or SRX400 to my performance hungry clients. It seems like a strange choice to me for NetGear to take such a step backward with their new "flagship" high performance wireless product line.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Draft-N. No external antennas.

    Weaknesses: Draft-N, Price

Overall Evaluation: I guess I got lucky with an operational unit? I keep it in a cool, humidity-controlled room with plenty of room for the passive vertical airflow to expel its heat (which isn't too bad). I don't use any of the gigabit capabilities. I have it running through a basic D-Link cable modem.
