Strengths: Very high quality monitor...fast response time and no dead pixels. the tilt feature is pretty neat. the stand is well designed too!
Weaknesses: The monitor is a bit bright...it's a noticeable difference sitting next to my other samsung monitor.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this monitor to go along with my samsung 730b. What is great about the 740bx is that the box comes with both a DVI cable and a VGA cable! So, I didn't need to make an extra purchase for a DVI cable when I received this monitor. I now have both monitors connected to my computer...the 740bx on the digital and the 730b on the analog since my video card has 1 DVI and 1 VGA output. bottom line...I would highly recommend this monitor.

Strengths: Excellent build quality. Colors are vibrant; brightness is also extremely good. Rotates 90 degrees so that screen can be viewed in portrait mode. Three year warranty.
Weaknesses: When used in portrait mode, the viewing angle isn't as good and images on the screen are slower to refresh.
Overall Evaluation: Samsung is one of the best LCD makers around, and it's easy to see why with this model. Colors and images look excellent (1000:1 contrast ratio), and mine came without any dead pixels or other flaws. This model offers something that most other LCD monitors don't: the ability to rotate the screen 90 degrees. This feature will be appreciated by people who want to see more of a document or webpage without having to scroll as much.Unfortunately, when this monitor is used in portrait mode, Samsung's graphics driver has to work harder to process the output so that everything is turned sideways. As a result, movement on the screen sometimes looks choppy (e.g., when scrolling fast). This effect isn't present when the monitor is used in regular horizontal mode.Furthermore, the sideways viewing angle isn't as good in portrait mode (probably because the LCD is optimized for horizontal use). If you look at it straight on it's fine, but colors begin to wash out if you move too far to the left or the right. These are minor flaws, however, and for the most part the portrait mode works well. With the few caveats I've just mentioned, I strongly recommend this model to anyone looking for a 17" LCD monitor with added flexibility.
