    Overall Rating: 4 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:8 Days

Strengths: Small size; works on batteries, ac adapter or even with no power.Small dimensions, weight. Ideal for carrying it around

Weaknesses: A little on the pricey side.Speakers cannot be individually oriented, like in other Sony models.

Overall Evaluation: Bought this as an add-on to my iPod for when I'm travelling. I discovered that I also like to connect it to my laptop for better sound. Powered sound is good, considering such a small device. At maximum volume I was afraid I was disturbing people in the next room. Operated in powerless mode is just adequate, but in an emergency is ok, I suppose. I wish one was able to orient the two speakers separately, like in the T55 for instance. All in all, a cool little thing. It would be perfect if priced $10-15 less.

Strengths: Great Sound quality considering size

Weaknesses: Different colors would be nice

Overall Evaluation: The speakers are used primarily with an iPod and have great sound quality. I considered buying the Altec Lansing setup for the iPod but it was too expensive and physically larger. I am extremely with the Sony product and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Strengths: Compact and small is the key to the desirability of this product. The overall quality of the sysytem is excellent. The batter and power cord adapter features was the bigeast reason for purchase.

Weaknesses: It is only as good and the output system to which it is attached. For a lap top or other computers, as well as other audio systems the ouput quality will depend on the ouput system.

Overall Evaluation: I would highly recommend this item to anyone who is on the road and must keep the amount of wieght to a minimum. Especially for those who travel with lap tops and who can relate to the hasels of carring your speakers with you. Not only does this item work well with the computer but is an excellent addition to a walkman and outher personal audio devices.

    Strengths: Volume, size

    Weaknesses: sound quality, design

Overall Evaluation: My product research for portable speakers yielded any number of glowing reviews of speakers that "sound great!" and are "not tinny!" and so forth. Have you ever noticed that audio quality is not something you can trust others to judge? I was expecting to be amazed and pleased by a decent sound coming from a small object. But, these speakers sound *exactly* like the bedside clock radios found in most motel rooms. They sound like their size. Another good analogy would be one of those little mono weather radios. On the plus side, nobody can complain about the volume the srs-t88 can achieve. You can easily annoy people in the next apartment and all adjacent hotel rooms. In fact, the louder, the better the sound quality. That is probably because the "acoustic bass duct" system, which consists of slightly downward-curving speakers and holes to push air through the battery compartment, is able to push more air and bounce lower frequencies off the tabletop at higher volumes, giving you a slightly more natural sound. But even if it gets as loud as a jam box, it sounds nothing like one, and it's not nearly as good as a cheap pair of computer speakers. I have not tried any other portable speakers, so I assume they're all like this. However, for the money, consider that the Creative TravelSound gets more battery life on 4 AAA than this unit on 4 AA (the Sony manual claims "up to" 30 hours). Controls include on/off (where off is also the passive mode, which is barely audible) and the volume knob. BTW: bassy music (I tried Elvis Costello's When I Was Cruel, for instance) is a distorted mess. Miles Davis sounded great, if itty bitty, but high-end stuff like drum high hats weren't as sharp as I'd have expected. In general, the sound is better the louder you go, until the bass frequencies distort. As for design, it's extremely compact, having the form factor roughly of a leather sandal (size 8 1/2C). The unit tips forward easily, however. It will not stand upright if you remove the batteries, since that weight balances it. You cannot open the battery compartment until you unplug the AC adaptor (which has a folding plug). "Cable management" means that the very flimsy integrated 1/8" minijack cord can wrap around the unit and the end plug can be laid inside the battery compartment. But there's not enough of a lip around the unit to hold the cord in place, so it won't stay wrapped if nudged. Also, the batteries are held loosely in the compartment and will fall out if you aren't careful when opening the compartment. The "carrying pouch" is, well, a sock. Get a red woolen tube sock for your other speakers, and you've got this feature covered. Finally, the packaging consisted of the familiar molded plastic "hangs on a peg in Target" variety. Again, I might be knocking the idea of portable speakers more than this unit in particular, aside from these small design shortcomings. But for the quality, which is very limited, I wouldn't want to pay more than $20.UPDATE: Nope, I wasn't knocking portables in general. I got the Panasonic folding speakers from Circuit City for

    Strengths: Small, compact and loud

    Weaknesses:

Overall Evaluation: This is a great product. It is a stop up from the SRS-T77. This product is a little bit thinner and longer. It is a better design that the SRS-T77. It sounds great for a portable speaker. You can even use this to watch movies in a small room with a small group of people. It may not have the bass compared to a system with a subwoofer, but it does the job for just a small portable speaker.
