Strengths: Multitude of levels, new gameplay options, ability to revisit levels
Weaknesses: Difficulty level is still very high
Overall Evaluation: I was never very good at the original Ghost 'n Goblins. I don't really have those twitchy skills needed to dodge and jump and duck. That said, I really enjoyed this ultimate remake, though I haven't even come close to beating the game.Since I assume you all know the classic GnG, I'll focus on what's new. First of all, there are all sorts of new weapons that weren't in the original. Added to that, each weapon can be powered up into a greater form. Also, instead of only having one suit of armor, there are now varying types which will affect your abilities and sometimes allow additional hits before being destroyed. In each level is a Warp Staff which allows you to revisit past levels. In that way, the game has advanced beyond the old school side scroller and into more of a platformer in general. There are reasons to revisit past levels as you gain new skills or weapons and can then access previously unreachable items. The difficulty selection does provide for an easy mode, but I'm afraid that it's still a bit too much for me. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Sharp Graphics, varied level and enemy design, tight controls
Weaknesses: Unforgiving mechanics, with save points few and far between
Overall Evaluation: This is a continuation of Capcom's Ghosts n' Goblins series. It's a 2d game, but with 3d graphics, which works very well. The graphics are great, the enemies are designed well, and each level is immediately and uniquely recognizable. If you remember anything at all about Ghosts n' Goblins, you will remember that beyond anything else, it was HARD. You will die in this game and you will die a LOT. Sometimes you will die because you jumped somewhere and an enemy spawned the moment you landed. Unfair? It depends on whether you are old-school or not. Fortunately if you want to take it easy, there's a Novice mode available, where you are allowed to take more hits before you die, you get knocked back a shorter distance, and you spawn approximately where you died. In the other modes, each death brings you to the beginning of the level, you get knocked back further, and you die in fewer hits. A lot of times, you will simply have to memorize enemy locations to progress. That's the way the game is. One thing about the series is that jumping always goes the same distance. In many other games, the jumping distance depends on how long you press it or how hard you pressed the button. In Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins, you will always jump the same distance, which makes the game harder as once you jump, you commit to the landing spot. One complaint I have with this game is the few save points. You can only save about every half a level. So literally, you could play 9 min of a 10 min half-level perfectly, die, then be forced to replay those 9 min again just to get back to where you died. Again, this game is only for the truly hardcore. I would recommend this for any old school gamers out there looking for a challenge. People who need their hands held need not apply. Either way, prepare for a challenge, and don't throw your psp at the wall in frustration. I got this game cheap ($10) so I'd say I got a good value. I give this game 4/5 because it aims at the hardcore old school audience and succeeds.

Strengths: +classic 2D hack/slash action classic old school feel+good updated graphics and load times+classic original music+3 difficulty levels+alternate endings+treasure chests
Weaknesses: -challenging -jumping-PSP controls-only six levels-not much added to original just update
Overall Evaluation: Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins is a wonderful update to the classic Ghosts and Goblins. Players assume the role of Arthur as he battles villains on his quest to save the princess. As Arthur takes damage he will lose pieces of his armor until he is stripped down to his boxer shorts. Arthur battles his enemies by throwing his lance (your original weapon) at his opponents. Progressing through the game Arthur will have access to new types of armor and weapons. Graphics are bright and colorful making this a beautiful game. The game remains challenging, and Arthur?s jump mechanics remain a problem. However this still remains a great game, which I highly recommend.

Strengths: Graphics are great
Weaknesses: Pretty much the same as the old games
Overall Evaluation: I have Capcom Classics Coll. Reloaded and it has the first 3 original G&G games. The graphics for this version is updated for the PSP and there are new attacks, armours and moves. I was not impressed with it beyond that. Still a hard game in terms of difficulty. Recommend buying this game if you can find it for clearance, if you're a collector, or a fan of G&G.

Strengths: Old school! Great platformer in its own right, too.
Weaknesses: Controls can be a bit wonky
Overall Evaluation: Arthur is back, in 3D! With new moves, new weapons, and a new adventure. The levels are absolutely awesome, and graphics are really eye-catching! The game is definitely a challenge, but the multiple difficulty levels make it fun for everyone. It's a great game to just pick up and play - no learning curve, no complicated plot or moves... just play.If you have a PSP this is a must buy!

Strengths: + you can continue or warp back to levels that you have previously finished+ variety of challenges to choose from including novice, standard, and ultimated modes+ tons of weapons to be found
Weaknesses: - some levels may seem to hard- sound sountracks are updated from the original GnG, to others it may seem as recycled- may not be a good title if your not looking for platform games
Overall Evaluation: As a sidescroller fan you have played the original get ready for a challenge with ultimate ghost and goblins. This game will require some memorization and points in the game as enemies respawn everywhere. With Arthur you now find new moves such as defending with a shield, attacking with a whip. There is a vareity of music settings for each stage including newly orchestra sounds.

Strengths: Great old school gameplay mixed with beautiful 2.5D graphics. Multiple difficulties.
Weaknesses: Retains that old school difficulty.
Overall Evaluation: The Ghosts and Goblins series returns once again, this time in a remake for the PSP. Featuring improved 2.5D graphics with that same side-scrolling gameplay you may have loved as a kid. It's tough, but rewarding gameplay makes it a must play for anyone that yearns for some old school action for their PSP. Just don't expect the game to give you much leeway, even with the new, easier difficulty mode, but it's never anything that should be impossible for the average gamer to handle.

Strengths: Fast Load Times, Great Save Features
Weaknesses: May Not Be For Younger Gamers That Don't Remember the Old GNG Games.
Overall Evaluation: Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins is a Side Scroller just like the old Ghosts 'N Goblins games but with 3D graphics. The game sports 3 different difficulties also so while it can be frustrating at times just like the old Ghost 'N Goblins games on the easy & normal settings the game isn't overly hard. The one thing about the game though is that when you commit to a jump you can't change your momentum in mid air much like the old Ghost 'N Goblins games or the on Castlevania games on the NES so while it may seem outdated in a sense it also does keep it true to how the old games played. Capcom also added in some new weapons to the game along with a mix of some of the old weapons from previous games and with multiple endings, hidden chests & rings, the ability to replay stages you've already beat, and three vastly different challenge settings Ultimate Ghost 'N Goblins does have an impressive amount of replay for a side scroller. I would highly recommend Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblin to fans of the old games & of 2D games in general. I would also recommend giving it a try to younger gamers also but maybe as a rental to try before deciding to buy incase it's not for them.

Strengths: Great updates to a great game
Weaknesses: None
Overall Evaluation: Ghosts and Goblins is a classic game. True gamers have played this game and cursed at its difficulty. When the opportunity came to grab this on the PSP ( a system lacking in great titles), I jumped on it.I was not disappointed. Capcom did a awesome job updating the game, while keeping the spirit of the original. It's still frustrating as ever, but thats a good thing. If you haven't played the original, you will find yourself repeating the same spot numerous times throughout the game. Don't give up, its worth continuing.Definitely recommended for fans of the game.

Strengths: Excellent graphical/sound updates, multiple difficulty levels, some clever level designs, some interesting new features
Weaknesses: Frustratingly difficult, repeating levels, blind jumps, control issues, weak storyline
Overall Evaluation: Capcom's Ghosts and Goblins series has appeared on any number of consoles over the years, but the developer has thankfully stuck with the classic 2D game play with each new update. Ultimate Ghost 'N Goblins does an admirable of job of continuing the series on Sony's handheld. The graphics have been updated to include a vibrant 3D look (while retaining the 2D game play), and the classic tunes on the 8-bit original have been updated to remain consistant with the visuals. A few new weapons and abilities have been added in to mix things up, but this remains the same game you've played many times before. The challenge and difficulty level remains high, and you'll find yourself repeating some levels again and again. Blind jumps become a frequent issue because you can't adjust your path of travel once you've left solid ground. Series fans should definitely consider a purchase for $20 or less. Players unfamiliar with the series should rent first because the high difficulty level may be enough to turn them off completely to the title.
