Strengths: Almost everything. Solid picture rendering. Great colors throughout the picture. HD is fantastic once you dial in the optimum settings. Controls are pretty forward for those that like to fiddle with the picture. PRICE!!! Lots of bang for the buck.
Weaknesses: No pc connection. Too bad. That would have made the system perfect for my needs.
Overall Evaluation: The system handles all of our HD needs perfectly. I looked at the Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung models and felt that the picture was best on the Sharp. The price helped too. It was not necessarily lower but the "bang for your buck" principal kicked in to make it better. I'm looking at buying another Sharp for the bedroom. Just an awesome set to have.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this t.vv for 1000 cash, new at an electronic boutique in NY. I was worried, cause I hadn't really reviewed it. I watched a few Blue rays on it, Iron man, the hulk. It is unbelievable crisp and smooth. CGI on looks incredible. I dont have HD cable, so regular t.v is... well looks like regular tv (especially cause the t.v is so big). Detailed menus let you customize it very easily and a lot of different ways. The different presets are handy, especially the "movie" preset, which makes the picture look very "motion picture", like in a theatre. I looked, but didn't notice any banding on my set. Was definitely a good purchase for me.

Strengths: Vibrant colors....razor sharp images on HD channels...so large that you feel like you have a seat in the football stadium...so thin for the size....looks like art sitting on your shelf.
Weaknesses: Absolutely none!
Overall Evaluation: I was going to buy a Polaroid 46 LCD from Wal Mart for $1400 for this Christmas season. Saw an ad from Sears for the same size Sharp at $999.99 and couldn't resist. Went early and bought it for regular price and then fought the crowds to go back and get a price adjustment under their 30 day price guarantee. What a super LCD! My parents were here for Thanksgiving and my Mom was in awe of the colors from the Macy Thanksgiving Parade in NBC. I already have a 32 inch Polaroid, but this one is superior in color, image, and resolution.I would buy this again if I had to spend twice the money for it. You will not be disappointed!

Strengths: Eye-popping, jaw-dropping picture quality.
Weaknesses: For future use, another HDMI input or two would have been nice but still not a deal breaker.
Overall Evaluation: I did tons of research, looking at 40" and 46" LCD 1080p models. Read over a hundred reviews and after seeing all the choices in person came to the conclusion that the Sharp Aquos and the Sony Bravia XBR2/3 were the best of the best. The Samsung was close.Sony has the better historical rep but I truly believe that Sharp has matched their picture quality, if not bettered it in many aspects. When I assessed the two sets as equals then it was a simple decision to choose the Sharp Aquos 46 instead of the Sony Bravia XBR2 40" for basically the same money. I am not a pro at assessing tv's but for my money the Sharp is perfect for me. Highest quality picture for a great price. I have NO quality issues with my set, NONE.Also, my XBOX 360 has never looked better, it's so easy to become immersed in the Hi Def experience.Regarding price, I shopped Best Buy, Circuit City, Costco and also many online dealers. With a little anxiety I chose Abe's of Maine, having never even heard of them b4 starting this quest, and I could not be more pleased with the service I received. 100% satisfied and I saved 400 dollars over the best price I found locally in my area. All in all, a great purchase for my home, would do it again in a heartbeat!BonzaiCharleston, SC

Strengths: Picture, once adjusted, is very nice.
Weaknesses: Lots of noticeable horizontal and vertical banding on PS3 default grey screen - sometimes noticeable during playback (early misty scenes of Gladiator, for example).
Overall Evaluation: Had read about the banding issue, but also the picture quality, so I took the plunge. Not sure if I am going to keep it. The banding issue is very noteceable when using PS/3 (it uses a grey monotone often for it's menu system). Also, after several hours of late night use, noticed a fairly loud hum coming from the rear of set (about as loud as the fan on the PS/3, once I shut down the PS/3 was when I noticed it). Dialed it in for Blu-Ray movies, was very impressed (have to turn down the sharpness and backlight from default). 480p DVDs also looked good. Haven't decided yet whether to keep or not. May go to a Sony 2500 series (XBR2 seems overpriced for the added non-features).

Overall Evaluation: picture is amazing, price was reasonable, my complaint would be the fact that since we brought it home it buzz's when powered off and about twice as loud when powered on, when the volume is set to 22 you cant hear it anymore..delaing with the repair company for sharp has been a waste of time, afterabout 5 weeks of waiting for an apointment and waiting for parts, they changed the power board...2 hours later the buzzing is back and louder than before, at first they tell me its normal that the backlight buzzess...after enough complaining they tell me they can try 2 more times to fix it then i have to take it up with sharp for a replacement

Strengths: Outstanding picture, no adjustments needed right out of the box
Weaknesses: None that I can tell.
Overall Evaluation: This TV is amazing! I absolutely love it. I bought it to replace a older Toshiba 55" projection TV (HD monitor 1080i). I can't believe how great the picture is even in a bright room. It sits opposite a huge bay window and the picture is still awesome even with the blinds open, light on, etc. My old TV required me to close the blinds because the reflections in the screen were so bad and the brightness and contrast just couldn't compete with such intense background light. Definitely not the case with the Aquos!!! As I said, I hooked up my Dish HD receiver, Samsung up-converting DVD recorder, and everything was good right from the start. I purchased my TV from Abe's of Maine for $1916.00 Their service was very good and the TV arrived on time. I would highly recommend them. Given the quality and the price, I would say this has been one of the best purchases in terms of value I've made. I'm extremely happy and would gladly purchase another Sharp.

Strengths: Best blacks/whites/contrast/brightness level of any HDTV.LCD, flat-panel, big size, 1080p, and for all of this, AMAZING price!!!You cannot beat this for the price.
Weaknesses: You only see banding if you TRY really hard to find it USING an all-grey color scheme. Even then it is barely visible.Just like any other HDTV with regular broadcasted TV and PS2.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this TV from SecondAct for $1950, free front-door shipping. I ordered the TV and received it after only 2 DAYS!!! SecondAct is amazing, and the shipping company they used is fast, incredibly friendly, and one of the best servicers available.CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!This was an AMAZING deal! This HDTV goes for $2800 at Best Buy and Circuit City. For a 1080p, best of the best dark and white levels (contrast and brightness), and 46", for the price it is unbeatable. No other model even compares to this in its price range, and this HDTV even beats some of the $3000 models!!!The TV is AMAZING!1080p picture quality is brilliant. I use it as a computer monitor, and my PC GAMES and Websurfing is flawless and CRISP.Contrat ratio for an LCD is one of the BEST you can get. Check CNET's review, they agree it has one of the best contrat ratio and brightness for any Plasma, DLP, or LCD TV period. One of the best, and for $1950 THE absolute best.4ms response time is breathtaking. Barely a TV made that can beat this, or even match it.***-Perfect Computer Monitor-***I use this for PC GAMING and for MOVIES.The dark levels are the best of the best. Movies show with dark blacks and bright whites. For an LCD, this is amazing.1920x1080p computer gaming is incredibly crisp, without being too draining on the graphics card. The games have never looked better!!PS2 looks like crap, but because of its low resolution, it does with any high quality HDTV. Haven't searched for a solution yet, but so far some PS2 games are unplayable. Plays PS3 games perfectly though, using the max 1080p resolution. This TV was MADE for the high-end systems. Is average in displaying regular television. There is UNOTICABLE slight banding, but it is not noticeable at all unless you make your entire screen GREY and then TRY to find the banding. If you do not purposefully try to find it, you won't have any problem. Even if you find it, during regular MOVIE, TV, PC, and GAMING, you will NOT notice even the slightest bit of banding. It is unnoticable.NO DEAD PIXELS! I checked my TV the moment it arrived (which only took 2 days from when I placed the order!!!) and there were absolutely NO dead pixels. ZERO! For a LCD, that is REALLY impressive. For the amazing quality, big size, breathtaking 1080p, flat-panel LCD, and best of the best blacks (10,000:1 dynamic ratio, which beats the crap out of any Plasma, LCD, or DLP.) this is an investment that will prove to be very well worth it.Soon all television will be broadcasted in HD, and the PS2 will fade away for newer consoles and games, this TV will stand to be compatible for everything with its 1080p resolution and amazing black levels.YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS PRICE!!!!!!!!

Strengths: Sharp and crisp image. I'm not a professional, but the image looks just astonishing to me. Took under 30 min to assemble and get going.
Weaknesses: There's a small delay when switching channels, however this is not a big deal for me as I mostly watch DVDs.
Overall Evaluation: I had this unit for half a month now, it's just great. Very stylish. There's really nothing for me to complain about except the small delay while switching channels.

Strengths: Full 1080p resolution, good picture quality, competitive pricing. Good black levels, bright picture.
Weaknesses: Would have liked a DVI input and an extra HDMI input; banding issues
Overall Evaluation: I have had this set for three and a half months and have been generally pleased with our purchase. The picture settings and volume levels can be set independently for each input. The set also supports 1080p over component video, which should please X-Box owners. The price has dropped considerably since the sets were introduced last fall. Picture quality is generally very good. Over-the-air HD signals look great, with HD from the cable provider coming in a close second. I bought a new up-converting Oppo DVD player to use with this new TV, and the picture quality is very close to HD quality (the picture from a HD source is just a bit more sharper and smoother than the up-converted DVD signal) Before buying, I had reservations about the piano-black finish. Having had the set for over 3 months, I have found it not distracting at all. I prefer it to the matte-black finish used by other manufacturers (Panasonic, I'm looking at you.) On the downside, my set does have the banding issue noted by other reviewers. For me, this is most noticeable when watching a hockey game - a strip of the ice at the bottom of the screen is slightly discolored. This has not been an issue when watching football or baseball. However, having noticed the problem, it is enough of a distraction that I'm frequently evaluating the picture for signs of the banding instead of just enjoying the program. I'm working with Sharp customer service to resolve the issue and so far have been pleased with their responsiveness.
