Strengths: One of the few affordable printers that prints on cd's/dvd's. Eexcellent picture quality prints, 3in1 (only if you have ink) Good tech support.
Weaknesses: I had high hopes for this AIO, none where met. Sucks ink like a Hoover, scanning is EXTREMELY slow, over 2 min. for a 8.5x11 document (slower than my 9 year old HP, no mention of the scanning speed on
Overall Evaluation: I've had an R260 since they first came out for the ability to print on cd/dvd's. When my scanner finally died, (9yo HP) I thought I would save some space by going with an AIO. Big mistake. When the black starter ink ran out (after 5 4x6 photo prints and a few CD's)I discovered that the unit would not do ANYTHING!! It wouldn't even let me scan to print to another printer. After 2 hours with tech, they tell me that is the way it's designed, nothing works if there is any kind of error (like no ink!). I quickly returned it and went back to my R260 (for printing to cd/dvd's only) and bought another stand alone scanner. Overall, very disappointed. I guess they are trying to make up for the millions they lost in the ink cartridge settlement. When I returned it, they wouldn't even apply my $45 settlement coupon OR a $20 gift certificate I had used on a new scanner from them! Saying that's their policy (1 "use" only). I "lost" $65 returning it! Epson has scammed me for the last time!!!

Strengths: Lots of options for an inexpensive price
Weaknesses: A little noisy and cost of ink
Overall Evaluation: I've been using Epson printers for quite a while now and have been fairly happy with them. People have complained about the noise and the OK print quality of this printer. Yes, this printer is a little loud, but it is not that bad. Also, for the price you can't get all these features in a similar product. The image quality is much better than any $100 HP printer, plus you get the additional functionality of the scanner and copier. When you add up the total value of this it's a steal. $60 worth of scanner $40 worth of copier $150 worth of printer $25 worth of card reader $40 worth of CD printer I would easily spend $250 on a device like this, but luckily it is much cheaper than that. Even if you don't use the printer portion of the device you are still getting your moneys worth.

Strengths: Options of printing, scanning, copying, stand-alone operation without computer, CD Label Printing and Memory Card reader.
Weaknesses: ArcSoft PhotoImpression software, limited network printing with no scanning ability, small ink cartridges
Overall Evaluation: Basically the printer is full of features adn the prices are coming down. I would purchase it again however, I agree that Epson should leave off including a blank CD and include Epson photo paper. Also, offer a better software other than ArcSoft PhotoImpression, possibly PaperPort, or Adobe.

Strengths: Superior output quality, small footprint for all it does, 6 ink cartridges (replace 1 vs tossing a multi color cartridge low on a particular color in trash), fast start up. Excellent Color LCD.
Weaknesses: Ink cartridges are pricey. Fortunately, there is a solution ( see below).
Overall Evaluation: I purchased the RX580 for $119, and for its absolutely superior output quality, speed to scan, copy, and print -- that represents an extraordinary value. Versatility also came into play re my purchase decision as I wanted the capability to print on the home movie DVDs I produce. The RX 580 does it all with user friendly ease. It is light weight and easily moveable. My printer had to fit in a book case, and the small footprint of this All-IN-One did. My Epson 925 and HP 1115 printers actually required more height and wouldn't work in my shelf space -- the RX 580 was a perfect fit. All ink jet printer manufacturers make their money on the ink cartridge sales, and Epson is no exception. However; the cartridges are available in 2 sizes, regular and High-Capacity. The cost per pico liter of ink may be lowered by buying the High-Capacity for the most heavily used cartridges ( yes, you can mix and match). In summary: High quality, fast, well made, light weight, versatile, and economic.

Strengths: print quality
Weaknesses: uses alot of expensive ink
Overall Evaluation: THe Epson Stylus Photo RX580 prints absolutely great pictures. It uses the Claria Hi-def ink which the photos are suppossed to last a very long time and are suppossed to be water-proof. The ink that came with printer only printed about 50 or so 4X6 on the highest setting. At more than $75.00 for a complete set of 6 inks for Epson genuine ink gets really expensive. Also another negative is if you run out of one color it will not print anything including black text until that cartridge is replaced. I don't know how reliable the ink sensors are as to whether there really is no ink left. My previous hp inks I would just print until it woouldn't print the colors and then I knew for sure it was out of ink. The printer itself looks sharp. It comes with a built in scanner and lcd displays. You can print directly on cds and or dvd media. I've found some pretty cheap ink from the supermedia store which seems to print pretty comparable pictures not with standing a few issues I had with the black ink and black spots printing with the generic ink. Just hoping I got a bad ink cartridge. With the exceptions of the cost of Epsons OEM ink and that it guzzles ink like a suburban I really like it.

Strengths: Great Color Prints on every type of paper; even some nice color matches on a plain paper full page photograph. Can print to the edge of the page if desired. (Borderless Printing) Quality. Sturdy.
Weaknesses: Watch Out on $50 rebate. The fine print reads, Purchase a select Epson Stylus Printer TOGETHER WITH any Digital Camera, PC/Notebook Computer, or Microsoft Windows Vista or Office 2007 software."
Overall Evaluation: Who wouldn't want a printer that prints directly on CDs? However it is after all called the "Photo" RX580 and it does photos very well indeed including when making color copies. I bought mine at local Circuit City store. The have all the inks in stock at $12.99. This is a 6 Color system using Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta, Yellow, and Black. Epson calls it Ultra Hi-Definition printing. I usually do larger photos but it is nice that this machine takes both 8.5" x 11" paper down to 4" x 6" photo paper. For those that want to print directly from the media to the printer it has a nice 2" by 2" display and takes almost all media types directly. The RX580's Scan is much quicker than my HP6300 Scanjet. The whole 3-1 printer is summed up by saying it is a great value; a proper balance of price and quality.

Strengths: Great photos on glossy paper. Great black and white text document rendering.
Weaknesses: Color not as bright as desired on premium (matte finish) inkjet paper. Ink cartridges hard to find locally.
Overall Evaluation: I have owned several all-in-one printers and this is by far the best I have owned. Great glossy color photos, nice black and whites, and superb text rendering for an inkjet printer. The scanner works well and the software integrates fine with other apps. Graphic designers who need to create a lot of printed comps for clients may be disappointed with the printers rendering of colors on matte finish inkjet papers (hue shift seems to be the problem.) Still, all things considered, it's a great printer for the money. My biggest problem has been finding ink cartridges locally. Bottom line, a very nice printer for the money...just be sure to keep a good supply of ink on hand.

Strengths: Styling, software,options
Weaknesses: ink is too expensive.
Overall Evaluation: I just received my new RX580 printer from Epson, It is everything that it says it is and more!!! It prints fantastic looking pictures, the features such as printing directly on to Cd's and DVDs is nice, as well as the LCD screen viewer. The only thing that is a bit of a negative is the cost of ink is on the high side and using any other ink cartridge (other than original Epson cartridges) can prove to be disappointing. In otherwords you are tied in to purchasing Epson ink only, otherwise you sacrifice quality. Also the noise level of this printer is a little louder than other brands that I have encountered. Really good quality printer/all in one for this price point. I would recommend it....More upside to this printer than not.
