Strengths: Good Looking. Small, lightweight. No power cable required. Looks the business teamed with a sony vaio notebook.
Weaknesses: Comes with very short USB2 lead. Very shiny surface is easily marked with fingerprints.
Overall Evaluation: Great looking drive. No problems so far. I was reccommended this drive by a tech guy who advised me that it was the best external drive in its price range.

Strengths: High capacity, reliable
Weaknesses: None noted to date
Overall Evaluation: I bought the Western Digital 160GB Passport after using a Western Digital 100GB Passport for approximately two years. The 100GB drive has been used as backup storage for my laptop and travels with me in my computer bag. It has worked perfectly and I expect the 160GB version will do the same.

Strengths: Compact and stylish design, USB powered
Weaknesses: None so far
Overall Evaluation: This 160gb hard drive is compact, stylish with its black lustre finish and does not require an external power supply. The hard drive is USB powered so therefore it is compact enough to take anywhere with you and comes with a protective padded black case. I haven't had any problems with this hard drive and I find its performance acceptable with my file backups.

Strengths: Small in size.Large in memory.Very Chic!
Weaknesses: Less than 150 actual gigs.USB cable shorter than advertised.
Overall Evaluation: I just purchased a WD Passport 160 gig hard drive. It is a beautiful unit, with a flap cover to protect the connection port when not in use. Both the adverising and manual stated that a 22 inch USB cable was included, but I got one about 10 inches long! I needed a drive of about 160 gigs for a special project. There is only about 149 actual gigs in the drive. Why didn't they say it was a 150, rather than a 160? I haven't used it long enough to comment on whether it is reliable or not ... time will tell.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: compact, storage capacity, good looks, sturdy
Weaknesses: For its size and USB 2 interface, it can't be beat
Overall Evaluation: Great features that suit me well. It's truly portable, easily slips in your pocket, relatively rugged, looks cool, and currently has more storage than any other in this form factor, although this will hopefully change soon with perpendicular recording technology. My only wish, is for a faster interface than USB 2.0, although I'm not sure that is feasible. Transferring gigabyte files takes ages. It's not a failure of the drive, but I guess a limitation of current technology.

Strengths: High capacity, looks cool, fits in my computer bag
Weaknesses: Will not power up without additional optional USB y-cable.
Overall Evaluation: This may be a fine drive. The only problem is I have to go track down a cable that will allow me to plug into 2 USB ports to get enough power for the drive. This seems to be a chronic issue with WD portable drives and Macs. Fortunately, my PowerBook G4 has two USB 2.0 ports. Now if I can only find that cable somewhere...

Strengths: nice finish, light, fits easily in purse, pocket, faster than older portable drives
Weaknesses: questionable reliability
Overall Evaluation: I bought this drive because I needed something portable, relatively rugged, and with as much storage as possible (need to transport a lot of video files). It fulfills these very well. Like everyone says, no need for power adapter, runs well in USB 2.0. On chkdsk however, I did find a minimal amount of bad sectors (224 kb) (not what I was hoping from a brand new drive from WD). Hopefully that will be all. I will have to see as to whether I would buy anymore.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Small, dont' need ac adapter
Weaknesses: Casing seems a bit fragile
Overall Evaluation: I bought this because I have a laptop and need more space but didn't want to carry a larger 3.5" desktop hard drive so I bought this. This ends up working really well for me because it's compact and portable. The problem is that the casing seems a bit fragile but I think WD does this to make this as light as possible. I'll probably need to buy a case for it. Other than that, it's a great high capacity drive.
