    Strengths: small

    Weaknesses: Unreliable for large data files

    Overall Evaluation: I am a heavy user and freqently copy large files, several GB. I find this device often cant keep up. IE the device often disaperars then reapears. In short, find something else?

    Strengths: High capacity, low price

    Weaknesses: Unreliable drive

    Overall Evaluation: Got the drive because I needed more space for my digital music collection. First thing I noticed was the drive was formatted in FAT32 instead of NTFS. Customer support says this is for Mac and Win98 compatibility. Problems started immediately. Multiple programs and Windows itself started complaining about not being able to find sectors on the disk. CHKDSK found 100s of problems on the disk. It wasn't worth trying to repair all of them, so I just reformatted in NTFS. CHKDSK came back clear. Tried to copy files to the disk again and still got sector failures again. Basically I concur with many of the other reviewers of 2.5" 160GB drives. The manufacturers still don't have this perpendicular recording stuff figured out yet. Going back to 120GB until they do.

    Strengths: Extremely small, holds a lot of data, no need for an external source!

    Weaknesses: Scratches easily?

    Overall Evaluation: This product is amazing. I was looking for a small external HD that stores a lot. I have a lot of friends that take pictures as well, so I also prioritized the ability to have a drive that powered from the USB bus. I came across this product originally at Costco, and upon looking at how small it was, I had to have it. I purchased it off of Amazon during the Thanksgiving sales, and I havent looked back since. I really havent owned another portable hard drive, so I have nothing to compare. As stated above, the only downfall appears that it seems to scratch easily. I really don't mind as much, but for the OCD people out there, I thought you would like to know. All I can say is that if you need a portable hard drive, I HIGHLY recommend this one.

    Strengths: portability, elegance,big capacity

    Overall Evaluation: i owned this beauty for 1 day so far and it blows away all my expectations. it is small, yet powerful, elegant. the ibstallation went on flawlessly. the only beef that i may have with it is that it is a bit flimsy, but hey; most of small devices are. if you are looking for a great bung for you buck- look no further. this is it. and for the price i got it at buy.com-$110 after google checkout at buy.com it is a no-brainer. great $/gb ratio too, in my opinion

    Strengths: Plug and Play, Small and elegant, large storage capacity

    Overall Evaluation: I first bought a Western Digital portable 60 GB hard drive nearly a year ago to back up my laptop hard drive. As my portable storage needs increased I recently bought a 160 GB portable drive from WD. I must say both drives function flawlessly. The new 160 GB portable drive is even smaller and thinner than my older 60 GB drive. I love the glossy black finish too. Very elegant! I can back up my 60 GB portable drive and my laptop 60 GB hard drive to my 160 GB portable. I guess my next step next year will be to go for a WD 500 GB external drive.
