Strengths: the design, the size, the convenience, the capacity of the hard-drive(s), the fact that it has rubber-protection-covers on the ports, and the fact that it's USB-'bus' powered.

    Weaknesses: ask my mother

Overall Evaluation: bottom line: i found this portable hard-drive in a Costco in Keller, TX, for $89.88, and my mother wouldn't buy it because she says "it's too expensive" and "she can't afford that". and also, she, at the same time, goes out and buys my brother a full-extras Suzuki SX4 and a laptop AND a plane-ticket to Argentina. right, so she could afford a $36,000.00 car (because she bought it overseas), a $2,000.00 laptop, and a $700-something dollar plane-ticket, but she 'CAN'T' "afford" a $89.88 portable-hard-drive. right..... (explain to me the logic in THAT :-P ). P.S. you can e-mail her (PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO SO; I've tried reasoning with her. SHE STILL WON'T LISTEN. i mean for god's sake, she still thinks that you can buy WINDOWS XP!) at micaza@pancanal.com and micaza@cwpanama.net , for your own personal critics [to her on the situation], comments [to her on the situation], and laugh(ter) [at her on the situation]. i'd really welcome it. the more people that show her that she needs psychological-and-psychiatrical-help as fast as Britney Spears [does], the better.

Strengths: small size, lightweight, style, capacity

Weaknesses: xfer speed can be slow

Overall Evaluation: The WD Passport External 160GB USB HD is a very nice small, lightweight and stylish USB HD. Because of its lightweight, it can be easily carried around. The capacity is excellent for its size and weight, and the blue LED lights up very nicely. However, even though the casing looks stylish, fingerprints can get all over the pretty casing easily. The buffer speed is a little slow and it doesn't xfer as fast as other External USB HDs. However overall this is a very nice little HD.

    Duration of ownership:7 Months

Strengths: Small, Sleek designGood Read and write speed

Weaknesses: Scratches really easy, May not be compatible with all laptops

Overall Evaluation: I have bought this baby sep 07, and haven't had any issues with it. It can handle large files pretty well, and reads all my files when I plug it into my xbox. That said, there is a compatibility issue when pluging the drive into older laptop models. I notice that all G3 IBOOKS can't pick up the drive, sometimes clicking. Old laptop models or models with very low USB power out put should stay away from this drive unless you have one of those y cables. Otherwise G4, MB and MBP Laptops will love their new travel buddy.

    Duration of ownership:4 Months

    Strengths: Price, compact, cpacity

    Weaknesses: Very Fragile

Overall Evaluation: I loved it until I dropped it. It is reasonably priced, reasonably fast, easy to use, worked on every computer I have as long as I hook it directly to the USB outlet not the hub, dependable even if I just yank it out of the pc without stopping it first. I had it since June, about 4 months. Took the heat and the long hours of use Until once sad October day.All I did is to unplug it and it slipped from my hand and hit the carpet from about 4 feet. It died right there. Nothing, no power, no light no anything. Goodbye , it is gone. I consider that toooooooo fragile. The moral of the story, DON?T buy it if you may be in a hostile environment like an office or you plan on moving it from place to place.

    Updated:08-18-07

    Duration of ownership:1 Days

    Strengths: size, capacity

Weaknesses: Exceeds 1/2-amp power (max current) specs of USB 2.0 standard. Unusable on many, if not most, notebooks.

Overall Evaluation: Smaller dimensions, but with higher capacity, than the previous-generation passport -- the silver one with the mostly metal case. This black, plastic, 160GB unit draws too much power (current, actually) to use on any of my three notebooks (I use 2 of the silver Passport 120GB drives with no problem). Exceeds the half-amp USB 2.0 spec for maximum current draw. I couldn't even get it to work when plugged into a POWERED USB-hub. You can buy a Y-cable, then plug this drive into two USB ports at the same time, but I don't have enough unused USB ports for this.I have more than a dozen external drives, including four 2.5-inch drives, and now that Western Digital has proven that it can make a small drive that runs reliably on USB-port power (the silver one), they should keep doing it.

Strengths: Everything if it was still working

    Weaknesses: IT IS DEAD !!!

Overall Evaluation: I bought this nice HD 2 months ago April 30th). It was working well until yesterday. It stopped working while I was copying some files. I have tried the HD with 3 different computers but nothing. I've tried WD diagnostic tool and it says: Drive Type: USB Capacity: 0.00 GB SMART Status: Not Available Test Result: FAIL Test Error Code: 11-Cable Test::Read diagnostics sector error! This sucks, I lost gigs of data!!!! The warranty doesn't cover data lost. I hope I can still get a new one and sell it on eBay...
