Updated:03-24-08
Duration of ownership:8 Months
Strengths: No pc required
Weaknesses: Microphone: the chassis conducts friction to the microphone, which can be irritating when talking. Contacts: I cannot call the skype contacts from the phone. The phone screws up the numbers and makes it impossible to dial any contacts. Support: I mailed and called with the LinkSys support, but they did not help. They blames Skype and suggested them to call them instead.
Overall Evaluation: Would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Strengths: You do not need turn on computer to use your phone with skype service.
Weaknesses: Sometimes you need restart your linksys device to reconnect.
Overall Evaluation: This phone is absolutely great. Sound is very clear, no interruption. Best of all is you do not need turn on computer to use skype service. When combined with skype world unlimited service, it is just wonderful. I have been using this phone for a few months now, I have not experiments any problem. Sometimes you may need restart linksys device. But I think problem is due to problem from IP service or router. I would definitely recommend this phone.

Strengths: This skype phone is very easy to use.
Weaknesses: For the first time use, you have to put your skype account at the phone. If you want to switch account, you have to put other account. It doesn't memorize the previous name!
Overall Evaluation: This is a very easy to use Skype phone. I used it to call my family in Asia. The sound quality is excellent. Highly recommended!! Also, you can have your landline and skype phone at the same time. Using two difference sounds to recognize landline or skype line.

Strengths: AFTER you sent up, it's easy to use. Excellent range.
Weaknesses: Quick setup guide is completely useless.
Overall Evaluation: I could not make it to work based on the quick setup guide. It did not tell you how to register the hand set to the base, and how to config the network for the base to your home router. The CD is not much better. I end up googled and set it up in few minutes. After you set it up, everything just worked on its own. Very easy to use with good range and battery power. Sound is clear. However sometimes the connection with Skype server would be unavailable.

Overall Evaluation: I was afraid that it would be very complicated to set this phone up, but it was as simple as plugging it in, plugging it in to my router and land line phone jack and charging it....works like a charm, no need for the computer to be on...perfect freedom to roam around the house and talk to friends over seas..... very cool item and great price...

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: No computer necessary, good sound quality, quality feel
Weaknesses: Pricey if not on sale
Overall Evaluation: This is my 3rd Skype phone system. I previously tried the Philips 841, and then an expensive GE Skype phone I saw at Wal-Mart. This model is my favorite of them all. The system has a quality feel to it, and has good call quality (though still not quite as good as a landline). It uses DECT technology, so wireless routers and microwaves won't interfere with the signal. The range seems to be quite good, though I haven't tested it thoroughly. I would recommend this phone and the Skype service is a very good value.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: - Easy to setup- Long range- Intuitive Screens
Weaknesses: - Ring tones could be better- Conversations are clear but not without some occasional low level background noise- Phone did not recognize timezone it was in
Overall Evaluation: I was surprised how easy it was to set up. Had it going in less than 10 minutes, including setting up my Skype account information in the phone. The ring tones on the phone could be better but not of much importance. I took the phone outside and down a couple of houses and never lost signal in over 200 ft. The phone isn't crystal clear but the occasional noise is very faint and would not interfere with a call unless you were trying specifically to hear it.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: -No computer required-Duel mode capable (internet and landline)-Fairly easy to operate
Weaknesses: -Impossible to find standalone phone to add/expand to base-Battery drains quickly even when not in use-No internet/power, no phone (unless you have landline as well)
Overall Evaluation: The idea of paying for a local land line these days just seems very futile--huge expense, connection fees, long distance charges, taxes, etc. I move every 2-3yrs and have not used a home phone for about 5 because of it--paying the $25-50 to start new service when I move is worthless to me. When I came across this Skype phone and saw Skype's unbeatable deal ($30 annually to call anywhere in US/Canada and $60 annually to get a home phone number and voicemail, which equals $7.50 a month for a phone) I had to jump on this phone. The $100+ it cost, plus the $90 annual to maintain the service pays for itself after just 6 months. I was even able to lower the number of minutes on my cell phone, since I don't use it as often any longer. The lack of standalone phones for this unit (it is able to host up to 4-5 phones) is disappointing, but I really don't want a phone for every room in the house anyway. This will not substitute for 911 service nor does it allow for caller ID (on the receiving end anyway) but it does the job and it does it fairly cheap.
