Strengths: very portable! records in stereo sound which most point and shoot cameras do not. great HD 720p video

Weaknesses: taking pictures requires a steady hand thanks to the way the button is placed.

Overall Evaluation: This Canon TX1 is the smallest, best HD video camera you'll find on the market. what makes this camera better than the competition is that it records in full stereo sound. Most Camera's of this small size only record in Mono. The picture quality is very good, and even low light recording is very descent. This truly is the smallest, greatest HD camera you will find. Buy it!

Strengths: 720p HD resolution camcorder (must be in widescreen mode), small form factor, current prices

Weaknesses: Still camera not as consistent, hard to find merchant selling USA version for cheap

Overall Evaluation: I have been thoroughly pleased with this Canon TX1 since I got it 3 months ago. I took it on a trip to Disney, and I captured lots of short video clips that I wouldn't have normally because it's so darn easy to carry around. I definitely wouldn't have carried my current miniDV camcorder on certain rides because of the bulk. The result was a great home video that the kids and wife very much enjoyed. Still images can come out great at 7 megapixels but I noticed are not as consistently sharp as on my Canon SD400. It's not the perfect camcorder or the perfect still camera, but it's the perfect combo and the perfect size. What good is a gadget like this if you don't carry it around? One thing: be wary of online dealers who are selling grey-market items. Mine was a Chinese version that was missing the component cable. The camera itself worked fine and was made in Japan, but I had to deal with customer service in order to get the cable and ensure I was getting warranty coverage.

Strengths: small size, good video most of the time.

Weaknesses: pictures are bad outdoor, and worst indoor. video sometime take a second of two to re-focus whenever you move, or the subject moves.

Overall Evaluation: I had a few digital camera before this, and this is the worst camera to use indoor. I expected the outdoor picture will be better, but they were not too much improvement either. The video are pretty good, except for the lack time to re-focus whenever the subject moves.Battery is weak, but you can buy more.I did not expect too much from this hybird, but I do expect it to perform at least as good as my 4 yr old s40, and it did not.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Small, 10x zoom.

Weaknesses: Video format, no docking station, small LCD, button locations.

Overall Evaluation: I had been waiting for a hybrid camera camcorder and finally this was it. The ones I bought before had a lot of difficulty focusing during low light conditions, but this one is ok (not as good as my previous Panasonic though). The power button and the video start/stop button is in very bad places. I wish it recorderded in MPEG2 or MPEG4, which would make much longer recording. Also a docking station would be nice that can be used to charge and transfer. And LCD might have been a little bigger.Other than those, it's nice to have something that can both take photos and record video reasonably well.

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: Small size, good picture and video quality

Weaknesses: Camera shake, SD card consumption, slightly awkward hand grasp

Overall Evaluation: I have been waiting many years for a camera/camcorder like this. As you read the reviews of other owners, some pick on really small details. This is not a perfect camera or a perfect video camera. It is an excellent combination of both features in a small package. For me, I wanted a small camera that can be taken on vacation. I was tired of hauling a camcorder and a camera. I've printed out some of my first pictures and they are as good as my old Sony point-shoot camera. The video quality actually looks better than my miniDV camcorder. I like the slide show features and you can play back your day's activities on a tv. On the down side, the small size takes time to get used to. I found my hand a bit shaky for video and taking still photos isn't that natural when you have the camera in your hand. You'll also need to buy several SD cards. One 4GB SD card will give you 1 hour of video. I haven't started making dvds with the software, but it should be easier than a miniDV.Overall, if you always wanted a camera/camcorder combination, this Canon delivers.

Strengths: Zoom is very impressive and video quality looks great on a sunny day

Weaknesses: Auto-focus is totally unreliable and almost every picture has poor focus. Noise levels are VERY high filming video indoors. Camera spends most of the time being repaired.

Overall Evaluation: I live in England and bought a TX1 in June. After 2 months of struggling to get any decent photos with it I sent it back to the retailer. Unfortunatley they would offer neither refund nor replacement and it has spent the last 3.5 months being repaired. It has been sent to Scotland twice and last I heard Canon UK were contemplating sending it back to USA or Japan for repair. I don't expec to see it again before Christmas. Without question this has been the worst purchase I have ever made. My advice would be stump up the extra cash to buy a prop video camera such as the Canon HV-20.Please be very wary of buying a product that isn't sold in your country.

    Strengths: Small size, HD capability

    Weaknesses: Battery life, focus response

Overall Evaluation: I bought this for taking picture and video of my kid. It is small and has most of features of canon cameras have. But if you get used to hold the standard cameras you will need some time to adjust it. You might need the second battery because the power is consumed quickly. The focus response is slow if you use it to take picture of kids less than 3 years old ( who can't wait you).

Strengths: It is one of the best camera for recording clips. But need to practise how to still your hand while taking clips.

Weaknesses: Cost is a bit high as compare to its facilities. Battery strength is very low. U can make a trip with one battery.

Overall Evaluation: Over all this camera is superb if u have passion for the following - 1. Optimum resolution. 2. Optimum Zoom. 3. Looks and small size. Most of the people consider above two points. But for me 3rd point is also important.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Pictures and HD video in normal lighting are amazing, and 10x zoom is great.

Weaknesses: Can only use right hand, indoor/low light shots are hit and miss

Overall Evaluation: I just took this camera on a trip with me to Hawaii, and was very excited to get to use the HD video, as well as have quality 7mp stills in a small package. I would say this camera can perform very well, but does have some drawbacks. Any picture you take in normal outside lighting is excellent as you would expect from a canon camera. I found it hard to take pictures with a sunset background because the people are always so dark you can't make out any details. I also noticed that in medium to low light it has trouble focusing on people. I have several evening and night shots where the subjects are just barely out of focus, to the point where I wouldn't want to make a print out of it. I was disappointed by this because I have about 40 pictures at a sunset wedding, and only about 80% are completely in focus. I will have to see if I can't figure out how to resolve this. In almost all medium to low indoor lighting it seems to have this focusing problem as well. I also took some family pictures in my condo at nighttime that turn out to be really grainy and not quite in focus, which was using the flash from about 10 feet away. But I did get some really good shots in the evening and indoors, it just seems to be hit and miss. The video is very good, it is a little soft like most people suggest, but it looks really good. At nighttime the video is extremely grainy, but that's to be expected. It does have trouble focusing sometimes, when you shift the camera to something at a different distance fairly fast it can take up to a half-second to find the focus. The zoom is great for video. I thought the LCD would be too small, but it is not too bad, and its really nice to be able to turn it in all directions. It is disappointing that you can only take pictures with your right hand, and when you take a picture of yourself, you can only do it with your left arm extended, but its nice to be able to twist the LCD around so you can see if you are in the picture. Overall, this is a A grade camera in good lighting, and a C+ grade camera in lower lighting. The 10x zoom is awesome, and the image stabilization seems to do its job.
