Strengths: suppresses airplane noise, comfortable, good sound quality (separation of instruments).
Weaknesses: none so far
Overall Evaluation: May not be Bose, but at half the price, it still filters out airplane noise, weighs less than Bose, and is exceedingly comfortable. better sound quality than Sony mdr-nc22; better noise suppression than Shure scl3-w.

Strengths: Great Noise Reduction! Clear and very musical audio. Nice case and light weight.
Weaknesses: Not the best bass response, but with proper EQ'ing or Bass setting this is not an issue.
Overall Evaluation: These are a great purchase! Perfect for traveling... I also use them to set levels on my mixer for my band. It cuts down all the ambient noise so I can hear the actual signal I am trying to mix / EQ. For the price - You can't beat them! Would like to have gotten the Bose but COME ON! $350? for a set of head phones?

Strengths: Clear fidelity, light and comfortable.
Weaknesses: Price is not in line with quality of the product. They should be charging more.
Overall Evaluation: I am a long-haul trucker and often watch DVD movies on my laptop with the engine running for AC or heat. A 500 horse Caterpillar engine at idle can produce more noise than you might think, so a pair of noise cancelling headphones is a must. I shopped around on the internet and read reviews on several different brands and models, and was almost set to buy the Bose QC2, before finally deciding on the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7. I found these through the Pricegrabber site for $128.16 including S&H, a savings of about a hundred bucks off retail. These headphones are nothing short of amazing! I had been listening to a cheap ($39.95)pair of Maxell NC headphones prior to this purchase, and the audio was so muddled at times while watching DVD movies that I often had to turn on the subtitles to make sure I didn't miss any of the dialogue. The audio from the ATH-ANC7 is clear and precise, there is no ambient engine noise, and no more need to turn on the subtitles like I was watching a movie in a foreign language! Music is also a pleasure to listen to. There are no audio controls on the ATH-ANC7, so if you want to finetune the high/low/midrange you'll need to listen to your music through software with an equalizer control like the free Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

Strengths: Audio quality (for noise-canceling headphones)Battery LifeConstruction QualityIsolating outside noises
Weaknesses: Needs better audio cord - I noted some of those dreaded crackling sounds when connecting and moving around when connected. I upgraded to a better quality audio cord and all is well now.
Overall Evaluation: In addition to the above audio cord issue, there are two other complaints:1. That little blue light that indicates the headphone circuitry is active (and blinks when battery is low), is too bright in a dark room or darkened airplane cabin - you could almost use the headset as you would a pen light to find your way to the airplane lavatory (and the people sitting next to you

Strengths: Comfortable, really block outside noise. Great bass response.
Weaknesses: None noted.
Overall Evaluation: Comfortable, durable headset that gives great bass response and does an excellent job of noise canceling, with or without the white noise generator. I use them all the time when I need to separate myself from noises/distractions around me. Reasonablly priced compared to other headphones of similar quality. Highly recommended!

Strengths: Comfortable, relaible and gread product for the price.
Weaknesses: Weak in the low ranges.
Overall Evaluation: After an extensive search and lots of comparisons, these are the best noise cancelling headphones available, for this price. I have compared them to the Bose headphones and could not tell any major differences, and were half the price.

Strengths: Excellent noise reduction, works on a single AAA battery
Weaknesses: Prefers regular AAA battery, does not like rechargeable AAA battery
Overall Evaluation: This is a gem of a product when the market is being led to believe Bose is the best. I have used both Audio-Technica and Bose headphones and this is on par or in fact better than the Bose headphones. I used it almost every week on flight a coast to coast and the moment I wear it, turn on the feature it reduces the engine noise and this allows me take rest or listen to music and sometime watch the airline movie clearly. Very comfortable to wear, light weight, it runs on a regular AAA battery for 40 hours unlike Bose which uses a proprietary battery and you need to remember to charge or carry the charger with you. Even if the battery is out on this audio -technica it still reduces the Noises around you up to a certain level.

Strengths: Decent sound quality and noise reduction. Nicely packaged.
Weaknesses: High end noise not canceled. Not comfortable for me.
Overall Evaluation: Used on a couple of short airplane trips. They are OK but do not cancel the full spectrum leaving high end noise apparent. Also they do not feel comfortable to me. Perhaps the Bose would be better in both regards. The Shure e3's are smaller and more convenient to carry, sound better, and do a better job at canceling the full noise spectrum. I'll stick with those. This is my opinion only - I purchased these due to many very positive reviews so they may fair much better for you.

Strengths: lightweight, removable cord, sturdy case, battery
Weaknesses: moderate bass for some.
Overall Evaluation: The ATH-ANC7 are the best noise canceling headphones I have ever used. I was able to do a side by side comparison with a $50 pair of noise canceling popular headphones, and there is no comparison. Incredibly better noise canceling, better sound, comfortable for several hours of use. Better on every front. The question for me is whether it's worth the cost. Without hesitation, the answer is yes. I tried on both styles of Bose at the Bose store and although I couldn't really get a handle on the noise canceling ability in the mall, I can comment on the headphones themselves. The ATH-ANC7 has the same high standards for quality and comfort as the Bose, and at virtually half the cost, my decision was very simple. I have had the ANC7's for a few months and have used them on international flight and also while sitting impatiently on U.S. runways. They do an outstanding job of noise canceling, and have a great sound when used with my Ipod. The sound is very good, although the bass could be a touch stronger for my taste. The detachable cord and the battery compartment adds to the convenience and attests to the care and thought in this product's engineering.

Strengths: Comfortable. Convenient carrying case included. Excellent noise reduction as well as sound reproduction.
Weaknesses: none
Overall Evaluation: The only objection I've ever heard about these headphones is that they must be turned "on" (in the noise-reduction mode) in order for the music to sound good. While this is true it is not an issue for me since I only use these headphones in situations where I want to utilize that feature anyway. These are high quality noise reducing headphones at a reasonable price.
