Strengths: Takes extremely clear pics, love the image stabilization feature and Auto Focus assist for taking pictures in dark environments.

    Weaknesses: Haven't found any.

Overall Evaluation: I love this camera! It is definitely the best digital camera I've ever had.It has a good size LCD screen, takes clear pictures, takes good video also. The Auto Focus Assist help take very clear images even in complete darkness. With my other digital camera they used to come out all blurry. It has lots of settings, manual and automatic, image stabilization for hand or subject movement. Looks, feels and acts like a digital SLR. Love it and would definitely reccommend it to someone looking for a great professional - like camera for a great price.

Strengths: Price. Very good pictures in automatic mode. Full manual controls for those difficult situations. 10x zoom in a small and light body. Big and high-resolution LCD screen.

Weaknesses: Some noise at ISO 400 and above. Flimsy SD and battery door covers. Some tendency to blow up highlights.

Overall Evaluation: The Fuji FinePix S700 is a nice little superzoom. Although it is bigger that the usual "compact camera", it packs a 10x optical zoom. The lens resides entirely in the interior of the body. Although it makes the camera bulkier, it is also more protected. The photographs are usually well exposed with nice and saturated "Fuji" colors, and very good resolution for your 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 pics, or to look at the screen. I assume that bigger pics will also look great, as far as they are taken at ISO 200 or lower. The performance in low light is not as good as other Fuji cameras with super CCD (i.e. it is not on par with the Fuji F series). However, the flash makes a good job in those difficult situations. Auto focus time is usually fast, even in low-light situations, thanks to the help of a bright and orange focus assist lamp. The wide end of the lens is a bit long at 31 mm equivalent, but it is fine in most situations. The camera is certainly aimed towards nature photography, with well-illuminated far and steady subjects. In low light situations the flash usually helps, but you need to be near the subject, which overrides the usefulness of the big zoom. The camera takes very good photographs in automatic mode. It also has plenty of pre-selected modes, which certainly help in most situations. For those that like to try new things, it also offers full manual controls. The macro mode, in particular, is excellent. Also excellent is the LCD screen, which is big at 2.5 inches and of very good resolution. The viewfinder, on the other side, is small and of low resolution. I use it only in very bright environments, when the LCD reflects too much external light. All in all, a camera plenty of functions, ideal for the beginner that could grow with the camera until he or she could manage the entire manual controls.

    Duration of ownership:3 Months

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, use AA batteries, intelligent flash, SD / xD card compatible

    Weaknesses: bulky, date impose feature

Overall Evaluation: I bought this camera before we took our Christmas vacation. In general, I really like it. It is a great camera for the price (on sale). I love the 10X optical zoom. My old digital camera only has 3x optical zoom. The long zoom gives me a chance to zoom in the far away object. Being able to use the regular AA batteries is very nice although I would recommend to use rechargeable batteries. It needs four batteries. The battery life is very good when using rechargeable one. The intelligent flash seems to help me a lot in indoor pictures. My old camera always over-exposed. Able to use either SD / xD card is a big plus. I wish the size was more compact like those packet size one. I am still puzzling how to print a picture with date imposed. From the user manual, it seems you can tun the date impose on and off only when using the PictBridge to print picture. I usually took the SD card out and use the SD card reader in my computer to do print or upload to the website.

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, use AA battery, able to use len filters, choice of SD / xD card

Weaknesses: odd shape, not optical image stabilizer, weight

Overall Evaluation: I wanted a digital camera with longer optical zoom but did not want to pay a lot of money. I found this camera on sales during the Christmas holidays and was within my budget. I like the 10x optical zoom. Using rechargeable AA batteries saves me paying a lot of money for those special OEM batteries. This camera accepts SD card which I have quite a few at home. I would not have bought this camera if it only uses xD card. You can easily find SD cards in a very low price but no xD cards. Because the len is not extending it out when zooming, you can use len filters to protect the len or create some special effect. The shape of the camera odd and not very attractive. It is kind of big and a little bit heavy because of using AA batteries. It has kind of image stabilizer but not a true optical one. It simply bumps up the ISO to compensate it. It also does not have those face detection features.

Strengths: Great zoom, good camera for price

Weaknesses: Indoor shots can be grainy

Overall Evaluation: Overall, this is a nice camera. It's great to find something at this price with a 10X zoom. Also, it's good that Fuji has gotten away from the XD card, as this also uses the more common SD. The biggest weakness is indoor shooting - the pictures are a bit grainy.

    Duration of ownership:2 Days

Strengths: Compact, full-featured yet simple camera design

Weaknesses: Manual not very helpful for Mac owners

Overall Evaluation: Got this from family for Christmas. Love the camera, but can't seem to get it to upload to my MacBook. I've checked the literature, and I've done everything by the book, at least as far as I can read it... The manual is plagued in a few places by mediocre translation, and isn't very Mac owner friendly. The manual says that when I connect the camera to the "PC" and turn it on, that the FinePixViewer software will open automagically and the pics will upload on their own. What happens, instead, is that the camera will show the USB connection screen when turned on, the green light will flash for about a second, and then... nothing else. I tried manually uploading the pics, but the computer has no idea the camera is even there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the CD twice. I don't have a card reader on my Mac, and I shouldn't have to buy one if a camera is supposed to work with it... HELP!

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Great optical zoom potential.Larger LCD than my previous S7000.Takes SD cards as opposed to strictly XD.

Weaknesses: Image stabilization isn't optical.Has trouble focusing at times under higher zooms.

Overall Evaluation: The price I paid definitely makes the camera worth it. Compared to the Fuji S7000 I have owned for a few years now it has a larger LCD display and accepts SD cards which wasn't the case for Fuji cameras until recently. The 10x optical zoom is great but the image stabilization isn't optical which leaves something to be desired. Also the auto focusing can be problematic when near the 10x end of the optical zoom range. Perhaps a manual focus option would help with this...

Strengths: I love the 10x optical zoom.

Weaknesses: The plastic is kind of cheap feeling, mainly around battery door and lens area. Strap is not adjustable. Indoor pictures are grainy sometimes.

Overall Evaluation: I love the fact it takes SD and XD memory, the SD seems faster than the XD in my old camera, but I havent tried the XD in this camera yet though as my SD card is larger. I got this camera for a great price (~$100), so for me it was a fantastic deal, I would bet you could find a better camera for $200 and above though (the list price). The video isnt very well (as with most digital cameras).
