    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Plays DivX files very well.Cheap.

Weaknesses: Only progressive scan component video out for 480p quality output.Only coax digital audio connection - no optical out.

Overall Evaluation: Already having a Sony upscaling DVD player and an Xbox 360 for playing DVDs, I bought this unit strictly to play DivX files burned to CD/DVD. It's cheap in price, has basic HD connections, but most importantly, it plays DivX files extremely well. The quality of DivX material I've viewed with the player is easily equal to, if not better than, the quality of the same video files playing on a PC and monitor setup. I can burn 6 full-length DivX-encoded movies to a single DVD-R and so far this player has played every DivX file I've thrown at it. For the money, this DivX player can't be beat. If you need upscaling, HDMI, optical out, etc., Philips makes higher end models than this one with those features.
