    Duration of ownership:9 Months

    Strengths: none

Weaknesses: 4 crashes in 9 months...

Overall Evaluation: My data is being held hostage by the unit. But for a fee of $3200.00 it can be released. 4 crashes in less than nine months. First crash we recovered the data...2nd crash - sent drives that we restored, third crash - sent a "referb" we had to transfer the data (oh yea...we had to pay for the replacements first and then got a credit when we sent the defective products back) 4th crash - can get the data for a fee of $3200.00. (that includes a discount)...

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Ease setup, support 1GB Network, Mac, WindowsCheap price. Support Raid, FTP

Weaknesses: Does not support Active Directory, only in Pro version

Overall Evaluation: I got this TeraStation Live 1TB Network Attached Storage, and I really like it, inside you will find a 4 SEGATE!!! hard drives. I paid less then $500. This unit does not support Active Directory, but I can live without that. I called 24/7 tech support, and they respond really quickly. Highly recommended. You can use web-interface to setup this unit. If you click "I am here button" , you will hear a sound from your TeraStation.

    Duration of ownership:2 Years

Strengths: Reliable, Fast Drives, Fast Gigabit Ethernet Connection, Secure, Simple to set up and operate.

Weaknesses: Only available in silver gray

Overall Evaluation: Despite the other reviewer's issue, I have been running two of these units 24/7 for the past 18 months with absolutely zero problems. The units are quiet, run cool and are extremely reliable. They reboot quickly from power outages (athough I would recommend powering ANY network attached storage box with an uniterruptible power supply), and these Live units have a fast linux kernel. A handy feature if you have dunce users is a setting that places all "deleted" files into a folder named trashbox that they can be easily retrieved from if needed or deleted with finality by the administrator. Access security is good as well, keeps the kids out of your home accounting. Plus these units can automatically back each other up if I want the "belt and suspenders" security for my data. A great value for the money.

    Duration of ownership:32 Days

Strengths: It is a cheap machine

Weaknesses: Unreliable machine that broke after 32 days. Tech support unhelpful. Manufacturer does not stand behind product.

Overall Evaluation: Received kernel corruption in just 32 days. User forums far more helpful than Buffalo tech support. Regardless, manufacturer will not provide data recovery support. They will only replace with refurbished unit which has no warranty. Had to make decision to either lose years of photos & data or pay $3,000 for data recovery specialist!! Suggest paying $1,500 for reliable SOHO or Prosumer unit, like Hammer Storage, and avoid the hours & hours of headaches and additional costs by choosing Buffalo.
