Strengths: Incredible picture
Weaknesses: Weight
Overall Evaluation: The picture on this TV is absolutely incredible. I only have standard cable, not HD or digital, and the TV does an incredible job of creating a clean, crisp image. My only beef is that this TV is unbelievably heavy, I was going to wall mount it until I tried to lift it. I have no idea why it needs to be this heavy.

Strengths: INCREDIBLE PICTURE!
Weaknesses: Menu a little confusing at first. Weight.
Overall Evaluation: After researching LCD's in the 46 to 50 inch range for quite some time, I came across the Olevia 747i. I was impressed that it had won the prestigious Best of Test award from Wired magazine beating out Sony, LG and Samsung sets to name a few. The set arrived and I must say, the weight of the set is quite accurate. It is a beast, mainly due to the tempered glass that covers the entire front of the set. Having SECURELY mounted it to the wall after removing the included speakers(which worked wonderfully in my pre-mount test by the way but we have a nice Onkyo surround system), I put it through the tests to see how accurate the pro's were in their reviews. I was blown away by the image that appeared on the screen. I had to pinch myself and double check the back of the set to make sure it was an Olevia and not a high end Sony costing hundreds of dollars more. We have a smaller Olevia set that has been ok for use in the kids game room, but the image quality was so-so at best. This is the mack daddy of Olevia line and it certainly is on par if not better than the major name brands out there. It isn't just the picture that looks great, but the set itself looks very classy and showroom quality hanging on my living room wall. Standard definition feeds look good, HD feeds from my Directv are simply stunning. No jaggies, but a nice smooth natural picture. The menu is probably going to throw some people for a loop at first until you get used to it. It has already been discussed, but Red means the option is selected and Green means it isn't. A little backwards in my opinion, but really, how often are you in the menu system messing around anyway. Fro the pro's review, these sets are calibrated at the factory to be near perfect out of the box and mine was just that. I think I upped the contrast a couple of notches and changed the color temp. to natural and that was it. I really can't stress enough how great a quality set this is. Too bad Syntax Brillian is encountering some financial troubles. If they could have had a little more time to push this set and the brand name, they might be at the top of the flat panel market. It really is outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend this set to anyone, even at the $2000 price range which was much more than I paid. Seriously.

Strengths: Picture quality, Multiple input and output options, Reasonable price, Glass panel front
Weaknesses: Very very heavy.
Overall Evaluation: High end video processor provides outstanding picture, especially for HD programming. Although other reviewers have said positive things about the standard definition picture quality of this TV, I think the SD picture quality still not as good as an analog TV set.

Strengths: Picture Quality, Inputs, PIP, Remote, Great for standard cable service
Weaknesses: Not a significant weakness but be prepared, it is heavy.
Overall Evaluation: I was holding off on purchasing a large LCD HDTV since I'm only using standard cable service. Happened upon this TV while browsing a retailers website. It was on sale with free delivery and with an additional % off discount I felt the price was a bargain. The few reviews I found on the web regarding this TV were quite favorable. Olevia TVs generally seem to be highly rated for value and performance. Crossed my fingers and made the purchase without ever seeing or touching the TV. I've had the 747i for a couple of months now and I'm very pleased with its performance and looks. I know I'll never push this TV to its full potential. I'm still hooked up to standard cable service and the picture quality was great right out of the box. Some channels are better than others but nothing I can't watch. I did get a few HDTV channels when the TV scanned for channels during setup. The HDTV channels are an improvement but I'm happy with what I have at this point. I find the remote is quite functional. Most of what I need has logically placed buttons. The TV has plenty of inputs you access from the back side of the unit and two internal tuners. Besides cable TV, I've hooked up a DVD player and computer to the TV. DVD and web-surfing picture quality is great. The TV comes with two 25 watt bottom mounted speakers that sound pretty good. You can move the speakers to the side of the unit if you wish. A glass pane covers the front of the entire TV. This is great for ease of cleaning. It also pushes the weight of the TV to around 160 lbs. I haven't had any problems with glare or reflections from the glass. I paired the TV with a Bush Stanford black TV stand (see review) and it looks great. Placing the TV on a stand is a two person job, at least that for wall mounting. The one year in-house warranty is nice since the TV is so heavy. I've found this TV has been an excellent purchase and would recommend it to others. Review the technical specs of the TV and there is plenty of performance and features I didn't mention.

Strengths: - Very good upscaling of SQ DVDs- Good upscaling of SQ TV - Display fully adjusted before shipment- PIP- Glass plate with anti-glare coating - Reasonable quality speakers
Weaknesses: - Poorly explained interface for display/audio setup options - Selecting input options is time-consuming/cumbersome- Display of blacks OK/good, but there are better- Printed Manual not included
Overall Evaluation: I still watch a lot of SQ TV programs and don?t yet want to commit to the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray as the winner HD-quality DVD standard. So chose to get the Syntax Olevia 747i, for the quality of its upscaling capabilities with SQ DVDs and TV channels. Obviously, I also wanted the best quality 1080p HDTV display. That this baby has 2 tuners (allowing PIP), and has paid attention to cutting down glare on screens is a definite plus (though the glass plate to do that makes it very heavy). Technical reviews I've read mark down the color display of the 747i for sallow blacks, but they're very acceptable to my eyes and in my living room. The TV display comes fully adjusted from the factory (very nice!) - just as well, because the system setup controls are _very_ consumer-unfriendly. Changing input options (from cable to HDMI, etc) is cumbersome because the remote can only scroll through the 9 input options clockwise... And why can't they include a printed User Manual for the price charged? A major issue with this TV at this time is that very few retailers have it on display or in stock, you have to pretty much buy it based on its reputation on online and published reviews. But let me tell you that I _definitely_ do not regret my purchase (have had it two months), and every time I watch a program or movie on it, I think it again.

Strengths: Picture quality. Excels other brands especially in SD Format. Easy set up. Great picture right out of the box. Great in home factory warranty. Low price.
Weaknesses: Tall and heavy. May not fit in some wall units. Only two HDMI inputs.
Overall Evaluation: I checked other reviews and compared picture quality before I bought the Olevia. I had another Olivia monitor/TV 27" for my computer. I was happy with it, so I was not afraid to buy this off brand. The 747i was a good as every one said it was. You will not be disappointed. It is the best reasonably priced LCD on the market and better than most of the high priced models. I bought a cheap DVD player with up conversion and was amazed at the picture quality on this monitor. Made it easy for me to wait to see who wins Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD format war. I will have to buy a new HD Camcorder though. This TV is so good even the wife fell in love with it. (Now that HGTV HD is on the satellite). Good time to buy one now that Direct TV has over 70 HD channels. Don't be a cheapskate buy a good universal remote.

Strengths: Stunning image quality. Upscaling of SD feed from cable box is really good.
Weaknesses: 4:3 image scaling to 16:9 is not supported. Speakers are big, but you can remove them.
Overall Evaluation: I was very skeptical of buying a black friday brand tv at the price of Sony. I researched a lot for about 6 months before i pulled the trigger. None the less, I and my wife have been very happy with the purchase. The SD upscaling is wonderful as promised. I have tried Casino Royale bluray disc and it looks like 3d.Few things I would like to have, but not there:- Easy to switch source, rather than cycling through them all- Remote is lousy. Could not program dishnetwork cable box.

Strengths: CAnnot get any better than this, no other brand can compete. Truly a CLASS OF IT's OWN... UNTOUCHABLE..
Weaknesses: NO WEAKNESS
Overall Evaluation: What Can I say about this TV? It is ABSOLUTELY a GORGEOUS TV.. I grew up only knowing SONY TV's.. I thought they were the best.. I was in the market for a SLEEK LCD HDTV, and I went to a local store to compare the TV's, there was the SONY, SAMSUNG, OLEVIA, and other brands.. Looking at the picture quality, the OLEVIA in my opinion had the best picture quality. The pictures are CRISP, SHARP, and makes watching HD SPORTS and DISCOVERY HD an experience you will never forget. You are IMMERSED in the WORLD that you are watching. SPORTS feels like YOU ARE PLAYING WITH THE PLAYERS.. Football and Basketball, seems like I'm standing next to the Players.. LEBRON JAMES dunking over you. With the NATURE SHOWS, WOW is all I can say.. The TREES, the BUGS, the ANIMALS and NATURE all around you .. you are TOTALLY IMMERSED IN THE EXPERIENCE......The picture quality in my opinion was MUCH better than the BEST SAMSUNG, BEST SONY, or BEST SHARP.. The Olevia had a VERY SLEEK design, and I've been receiving tons of compliments from friends and family. Even when the TV is off, it looks like a work of art there in the living room..It is SLEEK, STURDY, futuristic, and CLEAN design that will get you compliments from all friends. Best of all, price is much better than SAMSUNG, SONY, and LG.. I heard from a techie friend of mine that with the other brands, you are paying extra for the name.. With the OLEVIA, you get no nonsense.. It's an amazing piece. I advise everyone to go to their local stores and compare before purchasing. But I love it sooo much.. Better than Samsung, Sony, LG, or Sharp.. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.. Oh, and one final note.. Try hooking up your PC to this Beast.. You will be knocked out ~!! Looks like a 42" LCD for your computer. the RESOLUTION IS THE BEST OUT THERE.. . just AWESOME.. and if you have a PS3, FORGET ABOUT IT~!!! it's VIRTUAL REALITY~!
