Overall Rating: 5 Star Review
Duration of ownership:4 Weeks
Strengths: Works as advertised.Allows retrieval of total systems - files and programs as well as just certain files.Easy to use.
Weaknesses: None that I can think of.
Overall Evaluation: This is a great product for backing-up your computer system. I ordered this for my boss after using it for my own personal and home business needs. It allows you to back-up and, if necessary retrieve, both your files and your programs along with their associated updates and patches. We back-up to an external hard drive and usually keep two back-ups for each machine. If a system crashes, we can recover easily from the Ghost back-up. It also allows you to do a full back-up or to retrieve just specified files.

Overall Evaluation: Good software, it is good insurence. You never need insurence until you have a problem then you find out if you have enough insurence and if your insurer comes through.

Strengths: An old IT term, "Robust".
Weaknesses: Nothing yet, but trust, I'll let you know.
Overall Evaluation: This product was "sold" to me by my brother. I was looking for a backup solution to save me from when I start playing around with things I shouldn't and boink em' up. It has dug me out of many bad situations by restoring my machine(s) back to where things were all fresh air and sunshine - time and time again.

Duration of ownership:2 Weeks
Strengths: tastes great (looks good)
Weaknesses: less filling (doesn't work)
Overall Evaluation: All I wanted was a test platform to clone a win XP Drive that I could restore from after trashing the original. I've done it countless times with earlier Ghost versions that unfortunately don't support XP.As near as I can tell Ghost 9.0 won't create a bootable cloning diskette like earlier versions, instead relying on creating a copy while running under windoze. Everything works great till you try to boot off the cloned copy. XP loads, lets you log on and then immediately logs itself off. I've seen many suggestions for editing the registry, starting with unpartioned drives, etc, all of which seem to have questionable success.Since I plan to copy back from the cloned copy many times I am not about to experiment to see what will work each time. Avoid this product if you are planning to clone drives.

Strengths: Good Menus, good features
Weaknesses: Install bugs - no telephone support - web help incomplete
Overall Evaluation: Disc shipped with a bad pqv2isysdriver (Tech Support email gave instructions for a completely different software that also applied to Ghost to replace this driver) they didn't even have the decency to add a note in the box or a description of this for Ghost on their web site. How was I to find out about this in a timely manner? The problem was a blue stop screen and page fault that I could not get rid of on rebooting after the installation of Ghost 9 on W2000 prof. Uninstall would not work from Safe Mode.I spent about 7 hours trying to get my computer back up. I could not wait for their 24-hr email help. I finally decided to try using the Live update on Norton System Works in Safe Mode as Ghost would not give me access to the Help files. When Ghost was updated, it fixed the problem. Why was this updating exercise not part of the installation process since it was so important? I guess Symantec has way too many bugs to afford the telephone support for installation.I like the menus and hope it works ok with USB to a hard disk. Ghost 2003 would not work through a USB hub (took me a while to find the MS article telling me that). Expect that is the same with ver 9, but I will try once to see.I mention the above in case others have these problems. This is a very poor way to deliver a product. I use it because it has a lot of good features -- I only wish they had a better customer focus. No company should ship software with such serious bugs!

Strengths: Backs up partitions, works fine, allows automatic backups, works with cd-r, dvd+/-r media
Weaknesses: It's hard to find in the manual if version 9.0, not 2003, lets you boot into a DOS type mode. 2003 lets you, but if I want to use the 9.0 will it I don't know. A little bit of a memory hog.
Overall Evaluation: This software works fine. Honestly, I preferred Drive Image 2002 from Powerquest. However, Symantec bought them out unfortunately. I've seen people use Ghost and boot with a floppy. With version 9.0 of Ghost, in the manual it's hard to find stuff about booting with a floppy, I didn't mind doing backups outside of the Windows OS. Norton Ghost 9.0 works very well, writes the backups to dvd+/-r media, cd-rs, other hard disk partitions, zip drives as well. If you need a backup software, since Drive Image is no more and they've added some of the capabilities of that to Ghost, it's this or Acronis TrueImage which I've actually read some good stuff about. Overall, this version of Ghost works very well.

Strengths: Other OS Utilities and Anti-Virus
Weaknesses: Ghost 9.0
Overall Evaluation: Symantec is cutting corners, packaging software and sticking it to the end user...again, especially with activation hassles, OS and SATA drive compatibility. Their Ghost 9.0 software is a ridiculous rip-off. Symantec leads you to believe that their user-friendly software is solid, but what good is a utility that you can't even use. If you follow their special instructions and get Ghost 9.0 onto a SATA drive running XP S2, you won't be able to use the full functionality of the software, namely the Copy Drive utility. And forget about getting support for their applications. After they charge you for buying their software, they charge you again for getting the support to make it work! Are you kidding me?

Strengths: Appears to be intuitive
Weaknesses: Does not work.
Overall Evaluation: I have spent days trying to update a 80 Drive to 160 G drive. The tool is extremely slow, which would beok if it worked. Using copy disk function it will not get past blinking cursor. USing backup and restore I get a windows login icon wit no user names or login screen.Stay away from this product.
