Strengths: Decent build quality for money, nice image quality and great speed

Weaknesses: Camera shuts down when changing CF cards, LCD could be brighter and larger

Overall Evaluation: Very nice and quite solidly built for the money. It produces very good images and acceptable noise at high ISO settings. The crop factor of 1.6 actually helps when photographing sports; that 70-200 becomes a 112-320 and 5fps is also a quite fast. Crop factor actually can be a blessing, in that you will get quite good results using consumer grade or knock-off glass, as the crop takes the edges out of the equation. However, wide-angle lovers who dislike the 1.5 crop of Nikon, will hate the 1.6 of the Canon 20D. Wide-angle enthusiasts are almost "forced" to use a 10mm-22mm from Canon or a similar product from Tamron or Sigma, as a 14mm 2.8, costs 2K+ and is a 22.4 on this body. White balance is good to very good but lags behind 1DS and 5D, but the 20D is a fraction of the price. It has been very easy to use and produces the best results in a sub $1500 camera. Has a great feel in the hand and relatively easy to use. I love the fast focus of this camera using USM lenses and excellent image results with L series glass. It is a great backup and com;liment to my 5D. While not perfect, a very fine result on its merit and worthy of its price.

    Duration of ownership:3 Months

Strengths: Fast to turn on, focus, shoot, write. Excellent picture quality

Weaknesses: Cleaning due to the ability for dust to get into the sensor area - but there are kits out there which help here. I've purchased a kit from http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning

Overall Evaluation: I've had my 20D for a few months now, taken over 2000 shots in various settings, using the built-in flash, or EX-580 external, and just about every other configuration I can think of. This is one great camera! Speed is the primary contribution for me, coming from an Oly E-20, which took fantastic pictures for a good 5MP camera, but was S-L-O-W at write times and focus for the second shot while writing. I'd thrown several shots away during candid photos due to the camera not focusing properly. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a fantastic DSLR.

Strengths: Picture quality , sensor size .

Weaknesses: Autofocus should be beter and faster , any time you changeyour lens your camera is in jepardy!

Overall Evaluation: I`m able to axept everything from this camera , but this camera can`t take any dust , your lens should stay on for ever or your sensor will catch some dust in no time and your pictuters will have not funy spots. Canon must do something about it!!

    Overall Rating: 5 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:10 Months

Strengths: super fast shutter & focusing, excellent exposure calculation. raw format photos. sips batteries.

Weaknesses: the only flaw I can think of is that when shooting my nose smudges the lcd screen.

Overall Evaluation: I've been using my Canon 20D professionally for the past 10 months, mostly corporate headshots & product shots and couldn't be happier. the quality of the raw images produced is as good as, if not better than what i was previously receiving from my photographers using EOS 1DS' (costing 4x the price). I've added the vertical grip (canon BG-E2) and it's dual batteries have an astronomically long life (I honestly can't remember the last time I charged them).

    Duration of ownership:14 Days

Strengths: Generally a good camera but not for me

    Weaknesses: shutter noise

Overall Evaluation: I photograph wildlife and the shutter noise makes this camera completely useless. I took it back to the store for a refund. VERY disappointed. I had been using a Sony Mavica FD97 and it was completely silent when I took a picture. This made it ideal for wildlife.

Strengths: Speed of Operation, High Very low noise ISO speeds, versatile options.

Weaknesses: Monitor size could be larger.

Overall Evaluation: I have been into photography for over 60 years and have used all kinds of equipment and have published even in Life Magazine. I am Extremely Pleased with the Canon 20D. I use it with the Canon 17to85mm image stabilized zoom lens which is also excellent. All pictures are exceptionally sharp. Its special processed 8MG image lets me enlarge or crop small areas and still produce sharp and nearly grain free pictures. The camera has ultra fast response even in auto focus and has nearly nonexistent trigger lag response. Besides its being very versatile with all kinds of options it has the fastest ISO speeds, with by far the least noise, I have ever experienced. Its 1600 ISO speed seems to have less noise than most 400 ISO speeds of other cameras. To top it all off its flash is more powerful than most and gives great exposures. Put these all together and it is an Awesome advanced technology marvel which is a thrill to use. I think Canon has a Real Winner in the 20D, get one and enjoy!

    Duration of ownership:1 Months

    Strengths:

    Weaknesses: CMOS Sensor quality

Overall Evaluation: I'm sorry for a camera that cost me almost $2,000 in a kit, I don't see why I have to "clean" the sensor after owning it a mere week and not having used the additional zoom lens that came with it. It has lousy focus. Even shooting at Aperture Prioroty with the maximum close down on the lens the depth of field is WORTHLESS, background remains cloudy and even the foreground is not focused. I got not only the little grey dots on the blue sky images the first time, I also returned mine and got another...the second had a DEFINED and BLACK STREAK on every blue sky image. I am thoroughly disgusted, maybe Canon sent off a bad batch to discount online stores like COSTCO where I got mine and I guess Buydig, where this other reviewer got hers. ALl in all I am major bummed and have lost shipping costs TWICE, which is arounf $60.00 now. I am stuck with two filters and memory card. I would move on up to the D5, but who has that kind of cash? Crotch grabbing rappers I guess, not me. I don't need feedback from "pros" I have been shooting 35mm for 30 years and Digital for over a decade. My SONY DSC F717 with an albeit shutter lag and one permanent attached lens, nonetheless DELIVERS AWESOME shots. I am in shock that this camera can be doing this in two different completely new cameras!

    Weaknesses: none

    Duration of ownership:30 Days

Strengths: fast in all functions, low noise at all ISO settings, logical and easy use of all settings, good grip and sturdy body, good documentation.

Weaknesses: hard to tell, maybe the missing ISO information in the viewfinder

Overall Evaluation: This camera is great !!!Everything seems to be thought to the end, even the software engineer must have been a photographer. Highly recommended and you do not need Adobe Photoshop for professional work (I don't talk about Elements 2, crap!). I'm working with Paint Shop Pro 9.01, it has most of the Photoshop features, works with most of the Photoshop plugins and costs only $100.Beware of the kit lenses. Better buy EF lenses, you are with a crop factor of 1.6 always in the "center spot part" IAW the best part of the lens. Why degrade when you can get the best. I recommend the 28-135mm lens, great value for the price.
