Strengths: One of the best looking HTIB units I've seen with a very modern look that compliments high-tech flat panel televisions. No unsightly wires to the rear speakers.
Weaknesses: Not fully wireless, just between front and rear, so some wiring will still need to be hidden. Very expensive MSRP that's mostly due to the cosmetics.
Overall Evaluation: I don't think I've seen a more attractive home-theater-in-a-box unit out there. Unfortunately, of course, you may pay for it with the high MSRP. You might be able to find these on clearance, as they've now been superseded. But the styling compliments modern furniture and flat panel televisions very well.I was looking for a system with wireless rear speaker capability, as I have a hardwood floor with no place to conceal wires. I found other cheaper systems out there with this capability (e.g.: Samsung, Panasonic), but none that looked as elegant as this. With the others you almost want to hide the control units because they look so monstrous. Every component in this set clearly wants to be displayed. Unfortunately, it's not fully wireless, as several other connections need to be made, but the most distracting would be the run from front to rear.Similarly, you'll be able to find other systems that sound better than this one, but again with a less attractive appearance. This system is simply the perfect compromise between all the different attributes.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Wireless convenience and clean design
Weaknesses: Not for audiophiles. DVD movies cannot be upconverted.
Overall Evaluation: This is my second Sony HTS, and I must say it is another masterpiece. The sounds are full and immersive, and the wireless rear speakers is an added convenience. The bass is adequate, and the DVD player is responsive. The only negative about the DVD player is its inability to upconvert DVD movies. This was possible in my other Sony HTS system. Overall, a great buy especially if you can get this for under $1000.

Strengths: Sleek, eloquent design, with chrome finishes, brushed aluminum, quasi-wireless rear speakers, and impressive glass-design control center.
Weaknesses: Price point is quite high--$2000 retail. Since it's a couple years old, it also lacks the features of more current high-end home theater systems (specifically, HDMI).
Overall Evaluation: This system incredibly sleek and impressive-looking, with a glass-design control center, chrome finishes, and brushed aluminum designs. It is remarkably simple to set up, and the combination of this ease of implementation and impressive design probably accounts for its elaborate price point. The rear speakers are connected to each other via a single speaker wire. A wireless transmitter connected to the subwoofer emits signals picked up by a receiver built into one of the rear speakers. The performance of the rear speakers was surprisingly good for quasi-wireless speakers. If you have this baby in your living room, you will bring shock and awe to all who see it. Unfortunately, behind this impressive exterior are some flaws. The subwoofer has very few inputs. Thus, in a large home theater setup, it only works well if you have a premium TV with audio outputs. It also lacks HDMI outputs (understandable, since it's a couple years old). Finally, the DVD/CD player built into the main control unit responds slowly when a disk is inserted. This is not a problem if you just use the home theater system for its sound. Overall, I am quite pleased with this system. However, those expecting a more future-proof system will probably come away disappointed, even though the system looks future-proof upon first glance.

Strengths: well built, easy to use
Weaknesses: Lacks some of the features power users and audiophile are looking for.
Overall Evaluation: At the current price, this system is a great buy. It cant up-convert dvd's and it does have only one digital input for audio but that can be fixed easily with an optical splitter. The sound quality is good but doesn't allow for much control or tweaking. the styling and construction is what you pay for here. It is a high end system and certainly has the look and feel you would expect from sony. Sometimes you will lose audio on the rear channel when the line of sight to the IR receiver is broken however if that is the biggest drawback on this semi-wireless high end htib and you can live with it, you will be happy. Strengths: Crisp clear sound, lots of features to explore and tune the system according to your taste,Nice looks
Weaknesses: Limited number of connections- there's one optical audio input and a couple of analog inputs,No HDMI,Rear speakers not truly wireless, connecting wires are weak
Overall Evaluation: This is my first home theater system and got it at an unbelievable price because Sony was coming with a new model. I am happy with it so far, fills my apartment nicely and sounds great. Connected my DVR to it .It also acts a DVD/CD/Jpeg picture player and my old DVD player is collecting dust. Progressive scan DVD player for smooth crisp pictures at 480P --It automatically decodes the audio input signal(Dolby digital,DTS,2 channel audio) --For movies it has 3 Digital Cinema Mode (DCM) Cinema Studio EXA Sound Characteristics of Carry Grant Theater which is great for any type of movie Cinema Studio EXB -- Good for Science fiction or Action movies Cinema Studio EXC -- Similar to movie theater experience Cons: --Quality of speaker wires is cheap for such a high priced system --No HDMI or DVI--Initial startup is very slow

Strengths: Quasi wireless, Sleek DVD player Touch Screen
Weaknesses: Lack of custom sound control, Slow when initialize DVD player
Overall Evaluation: Everyone who has stopped by my house have been in awe at the sleek speakers & DVD player's look. The rear speakers do not have to plug into the base, rather uses an infra-red receiver (built into the rear speaker - an extra detachable infrared receiver is also present if the speaker is not in direct line of sight of the transmitter). At 86W/speaker its quite loud, though might not be too impressive for audiophiles. The DVD player has present tone and sound control, which cannot be customized. A feature that is a must in a Dream System! Also, the DVD player needs to be turned on before inserting a DVD/CD. Also, it takes a little while (5 - 7 secs) before the media is read. Quite happy for purchasing the system for under $300.
