Strengths: HD picture quality, deep blacks. 3 HDMI inputs. Less than 4" thin. Large bright screen.
Weaknesses: Standard def picture quality. Sound. Possible banding problem if unlucky. Preset picture settings.
Overall Evaluation: As with most reviewers here, we got this from the Sharp F&F deal for a great price. It was really worth the 3 weeks wait to get it. Above all else, the HD picture quality is amazing once you customize your own picture setting. Colors are life like, blacks are true and deep. Combined with the large size screen, it feels we have front row seats to whatever we're watching.I've plugged in a PS3 and Wii and they both look very good via HDMI and component, respectively. Again with the customized picture settings. (You can find them on AVS Forum.) Standard def signals however, leave much to be desired. It is certainly not as good as my old CRT but that is a sacrifice LCD owners need to make. The sound is just okay. You'll need a theather system to improve it.The frame is glossy black and looks very nice. It is extremely thin and just looks sleek.Yes, Sharps are known to have problems with banding or gross uneven backlighting. For this D64U series, it seems to be much less of a problem. Our's is perfectly fine. It's good to buy it from somewhere you can easily return/exchange.We can't describe how enjoyable it has been to watch this TV. We hope it will last a very long time.

Strengths: Lighter and slimmer than its predecessor.Great resolution. It has a slick, shiny case that gives it an even more more alluring and sophisticated look.
Weaknesses: The design of the remote can use some update. For a TV so slick, it is almost a crime to pair it with such a dull looking remote.
Overall Evaluation: This TV is capable of 1080p resolution. It is "future proof". Its case is amazingly slim and I just love the shiny black look. It gives it a very sophisticated look, befitting of such a technological wonder. Pairing it with an upscaling DVD player connected with HDMI cable bring me to the edge of heaven. With picture that sharp, I can't go back to watching any regular standard resolution broadcast anymore. This is not just a flat panel TV but a slim one that will surely impress.

Strengths: Sleek design, sharp blacks, hdmi 1.3 inputs, no banding issues (so far!)
Weaknesses: Standard definition picture quality is subpar, not 120mhz
Overall Evaluation: I got in on the Sharp F&F deal for this tv. The price was unbeatable! Being my first HDTV, I am blown away by the HD picture quality and the overall design and features of this TV. Also, 52" looks soooo much bigger in the living room than it does in an electronics showroom with tons of other tv's sitting side by side !!

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Super Thin (25% thinner than previous 62u series). Count them (3 HDMI 1.3 connections). Side input Connections. 4ms response time.
Weaknesses: Nothing major, Standard definition viewing is ok, but every other tv I looked at in the stores had issues to and this was better than most of those.
Overall Evaluation: 52" of pure viewing pleasure. You have to see HD in this TV. It is by far one of the best (if not the best) 1080P LCD's in its price range. The TV is super thin a sleek. And the 64u added the VGA port back in which I like since my laptops do not support HDMI out yet, so now I can use this TV as a GIANT computer monitor and it is amazing. I read some complaints about the remote, but I have no issues with it. I also have the 46" version and equally as happy with it. I happily recommended this set to friends. In fact I had a co-worker buy the 42" version because I raved so much about the ones I had.

Strengths: 1. NO Banding!2. 25% lighter & 20% slimmer vs. D62U/82U3. Deep blacks and bright colors4. True 1080p resolution5. 3 HDMI ports (1.3a)6. PC Input (RGB)
Weaknesses: 1. Recessed Speaker quality mediocre2. Not 120Hz refresh rate3. Frame too shiny
Overall Evaluation: This LC-52D64U is my second Sharp LCD HDTV. I bought a 52" LC-52D82U in August '07 (see my PriceGrabber review on that model) but decided to buy this one for my parents given my great experience with the 82U and unbeatable special promotion price from Sharp Direct! I have extensively explored this TV for 4 days at my parent's house. In comparison with the 52D82U model, this TV is much lighter (20%) and slimmer (25%) - I could not believe how much set-up space it saved vs. my 82U! I could lift this TV alone if I wanted to. Set-up took only 15 minutes and the VERY first thing I did of course was to check banding - and there was NONE! The features offered was also ideal: It had 3 HDMI ports with the latest ver. 1.3a standard and also had that PC Input I had really wanted (I was able to show how easy it is to hook it up with a laptop to my father), along with 2 component outputs. With 5 HD grade inputs you'll never "run out" of ports to connect your A/V equipment! It also is true 1080p in resolution and showed awesome deep blacks and vibrant colors (with Sharp's new ASV technology). Remote was fairly easy to use. I watched DVD's and HD broadcasts on this TV and picture simply is AMAZING! The built-in QAM HD tuner picked up 55 digital & HD channels even when my father's Comcast subscription was bare Analog Basic - think about how much cable bill he's saving! Standard Def picture quality was slightly better vs. the 82U and about on-par with the high-end Sony KDL-52XBR4 model.Only negatives about this TV is that it does not come with 120Hz refresh rate but with 60Hz, but then, I learned that 120Hz "refresh" rate is NOT "120Hz processing" so even the experts cannot tell any noticeable difference. The recessed speakers are gray (as opposed to black on the frame), somewhat shallow and offers mediocre sound quality (15W) which shows no improvement from their 82U.Overall, I had no complaints about this TV. I even tried to convince my father to swap it with my D82U but even he's too impressed to give it up! (and he's not a techie at all) I would highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for a flat panel 52" HDTV!

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: 1. Slick-thin design and very light. 2. PQ way better than expected. 3. More HDMI plus it's 1.3a compare to 62U. 4. HD looks great.
Weaknesses: 1. SD is just ok depends on channels2. Banding issue might be still there but I haven't see any
Overall Evaluation: During my TV shopping in past few months after going to BB, CC, Fry's, Costco, etc. Sharp never stood out when there are 20-30 TVs on the wall. The PQ of this Sharp only look "average" when it was sitting next to other expensive models. However, after watching 52D64U for 2 weeks now since I received the unit, I am very happy about the purchase because I can't really tell the difference when there is no other TV next to it to compare with. This means other brand that cost $1000-$2000 more is just slightly better. If a top end TV that cost more than $4000 is rated 90 out of 100, 64Us can be rated at least 80 out of 100. I personally wouldn't want to pay $2000 more to just get 10% improvements. Not even $1000 for 10%. I would recommend this TV to other dollar vs. value customer.

Strengths: Nice looking slim design, deep black level, response time
Weaknesses: Some banding, Fine Motion causes flickers and dizziness
Overall Evaluation: The 52in Sharp TV is sharp. Its slim design looks very nice. The black levels are deep and the response time is very good. There are still some bands when viewing a test DVD. However, no bands are visible in normal programs. The Fine Motion feature is a joke. It supposed to increase the response time to the specified 4ms. However, when it's on, I feel dizzy when playing Gears of War. My game experience became much better when it's turned off.

Strengths: 3 HDMI inputs + 2 hi-def component inputs1080p (1920x1080)Excellent colors and contrastHigh degree of off-axis viewing angleLow response time (4ms)Super slim
Weaknesses: Slight light leakageSome banding reported by others but I have not noticed.Remote could be better but I already have a Harmony remote so this is moot for me.
Overall Evaluation: This TV would be awesome as a 52" computer monitor running a at a relatively high resolution. As a matter of fact, I will be using it as my main monitor (1920x1080 at 52"...awesome!) in addition to a display for my Xbox360. I love the built-in ATSC (HDTV) tuner. In my area, I'm getting a fairly good amount of HD channels (about 9). Here's hoping for more in the future. HD channels aside, this tuner also picks up standard def. digital broadcasts which look a lot better than my old analog tuner.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: 1) Deep blacks and vivid colors2) 3 HDMI 1.3a inputs - two in the back and one side input for easy access3) Slim design - weighs only 63 lbs without the stand
Weaknesses: 1) Uneven backlight - no banding but the backlight produces uneven colors in the corners. 2) Remote - not very user friendly
Overall Evaluation: This is my first LCD HDTV. I compared the Sharp, Samsung, Sony LCDs before going with the Sharp. For the price, this LCD cannot be beat. The 64U is much improved over the 62U. Compared to the 62U, blacks are deeper and colors are richer. I have no banding which was very common on the 62U/72U/82U/92U models. The side inputs are great. Can't imagine fiddling around in the back panel trying to hook up devices. Wish the speakers were not grey.

Strengths: SIZE!! 1080P and multiple inputs. Picture quality in HD is amazing. Many HD input options and very good picture control options. Good quality for the cost.
Weaknesses: None I can think on now. The picture in SD is ok, but the size of the screen magnifies every flaw. Also the speakers are kind of 'tinny' Lack of media Card reader.
Overall Evaluation: Overall, I found this TV to be a good value. I upgraded from a 40" Samsung that was a little small for the room it was in. Great picture Clarity and AMAZING HD picture! I would like to see the inclusion of a media card reader to have slideshows.
