Duration of ownership:3 Weeks
Strengths: None. I made the mistake of buying TWO of these printers for the office. I would have said "low price" but since this printer did not work at all, it was a waste of money EVEN at a "low price."
Weaknesses: Time delay from clicking "print" to the printer actually printing, color distribution poor (gaps, bars), ink is wasted with unnecessary "priming," paper is more difficult to load than on previous Epson Stylus models, problems with accepting ink (even using genuine Epson cartridges), requires constant head cleaning due to clogging (another waste of ink), and the printer pretty much stopped printing graphics after 2 and i/2 weeks (and I mean even simple graphics like solid shapes). I have a 5 years old printer that prints better than this model.
Overall Evaluation: I've owned several of the Epson all-in-one printers through out the years. This is the only one that absolutely hated. It does not work, plain and simple. There are too many defects in this model. I am frankly surprised it was even sold like this. It is definitely a black mark on the company's reputation. After this printer I would never purchase, nor recommend any Epson product. I contacted Epson's customer service about the problems I encountered (some companies actually do want to hear if there is a consistent problem/defect with their product so they can repair it), but I was disappointed. Apparently integrity, honor, and loyalty mean nothing to Epson. Do not buy this printer. Research other brands. This one is not even useful in a home setting. A printer should print. The Stylus CX8400 does nothing more than disappoint.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Epson's ink scam forces you to buy ink when you don't need it and completely disables all functions of the printer until you do.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this printer because it was cheap and looked nice. Well, that was a really bad idea. Epson's ink scam won't let you print when the printer 'says' it is out of ink, and it said my color cartridges were less than half way full after two weeks of printing using ONLY the 'Use Black Ink Only' option, just printing black text. Epson says it must prime each cartridge before printing... so this "priming" is eating as much ink as black ink when printing in only black. It is all a scam by Epson to get you to buy ink when you don't need it. So, when your ink cartridges are pretty much still full, Epson forces you to buy more ink from them. Their software has bright yellow buttons everywhere for you to buy in directly from Epson. Also, when you have "empty" ink cartridges that are still full of ink you can't use the scanner either (even when you're not trying to print anything!). Bottom line, DO NOT buy an Epson product unless you want to throw your hard earned money away. I personally think someone should bring a class action law suit against this fraudulent company... after being forced to buy a few more cartridges I just may do it myself. DO NOT BUY EPSON PRODUCTS!

Strengths: Excellent print quality, fast, stand alone operation. Footprint not too big.
Weaknesses: No fax capability, no big deal.
Overall Evaluation: Excellent print quality and pretty fast especially compared to my old CX3800 All In One. I really like the card slots and LCD screen to control printer functions. After market (compatible) ink carts are available which work very well. The footprint is smallish compared to the competition. Sleek black, shiny finish makes the machine really stand out. Best of all: NO PC required to copy/print!

Strengths: Fast printing, great quality, easy set-up and individual ink cartridges
Weaknesses: ink runs out quickly
Overall Evaluation: Great printer, makes excellent copies and scans. The software for the scanner is friendly, and easy to use. I like the individual ink cartridges, saves ink and money. But it seems the ink runs out quickly. Perhaps the cartridges comes with the printer are not full.

Strengths: All-in-One convenience, memory card reader
Weaknesses: Ink guzzler, not a true photo printer
Overall Evaluation: This printer takes the place of the CX3810/CX4200 as Espon's entry level all-in-one. Compared to those units, a memory card reader was added, and the print speed has improved. The print quality is about equal, as is the scan quality. This model still drinks ink though, as it does the head cleaning cycle very often. Be sure to find a source of cheaper compatible ink if you do print a lot. Also, since it is still a normal CMY printer, its prints are not as vibrant as other models that use additional photo ink cartridges.

Strengths: Price and Features.2.5 inch LCD
Weaknesses: Uses Ink Fast, comes with only sample ink cartidges.
Overall Evaluation: If you are looking to buy a printer, the Epson Stylus All-in-One CX8400 is on sale for $60.00 after $40.00 Instant rebate at circuit city. Check PriceGrabber for price. For that price this printer is great deal. But note: This printer only comes with :Sample ink cartridges: They are NOT full, and and last about 2 weeks with average use. You will need to buy FULL ink Cartidges with this priter. That ink will cost you about $60.00 for the three color and one black ink cartridges. Once I found that out I was able to return it and purcahse the canon mp470 instead. With the Epson Stylus CX8400, you can print, scan and copy with ease. You can even print photos without the need of a computer, just insert your memory card from your camera and you can view the photos on the 2.5 inch LCD and print instantly. This printer automatically adjusts the print quality based on the type of paper you select. The Epson Stylus CX8400 is a nice printer after you buy the full ink cartidges.

Duration of ownership:10 Days
Strengths: very easy to use, high quality, fast printing
Weaknesses: ink cartridge was small and ran out quickly
Overall Evaluation: This printer was a bit better than I expected in the quality of the prints and the speed. The only thing I don't like is the ink cartidges. They are ally small and the ones it came with are already running out after just 10 days. I'm not sure if the factory ones aren't full, or the small cartridges may just not hold that much. That could be a problem down the road for me.

Strengths: Fast Printing | High Quality Prints | Low Noise Levels | All-in-One Printer [Printer/Scanner/Copier] | Built-in LCD
Weaknesses: Bundles Software is Annoying | Small Ink Cartridges | Expensive Ink | No Fax Option
Overall Evaluation: This printer's quality really surprised me. I was expecting around average but the print quality (when using photo paper of course) was amazing. With fairly fast printing, high quality, and not a lot of noise I thought this was the perfect printer! Well.. until the ink ran out. The ink cartridges on this printer are *tiny*, they are easily the smallest ink cartridges I've seen on a printer. Even compact portable printers use larger ink cart(s) then this thing! Because of the small ink cartridges, the ink just doesn't last very long, and since of course they are expensive to boot you will end up paying more for this printer over time then printers of similar caliber. Also the bundled software after installed is very annoying, I'd recommend just installing the driver only. The built-in flatbed scanner is great for both photos and documents. It doubles as a copier as well, making for quick scans and then quick printing. Also the built-in LCD screen and the ability to insert various types of flash media makes it so you don't even have to use a computer to make prints with!

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: easy to setup and use, good print/scan/copy quality, seperate ink cartridges
Weaknesses: It has loud noises during printing, and ink cartridges drain out relatively quickly.
Overall Evaluation: The printer has good printing (high dpi resolution) and scan quality. It also did a good job copying (especially enlarging) photos. The package has the the individual ink cartridges comes with the printer. You can replace the ink cartridges separately, which is very cost efficient.Compared with Canon and HP, Epson printers offer your relatively cheap prices and acceptable functions. The performance is pretty good considering the price. That is the reason why I choose Epson for many years. I do not care about the fax function, but I hope it could come with an USB cable, though most printers do not have it.
