    Overall Rating: 2 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:1 Months

Strengths: I have used Quicken for over ten years and recently upgraded from Quicken (Deluxe) 2005 to 2008 version. Upgrade was smooth and the new interface is visually appealing. My old version's online banking and bill pay information seems to have accurately migrated to the new software.

Weaknesses: Whether it is because of incompetence or guile, the category system seems to have been "gamed" to force you to use Quicken's pre-defined business categories. My suspicion is that they are trying to force you into buying "Home and Business" version of their software. But, in any case, if you own a Schedule C business, however simple it might be, be prepared to give up your own categories and adopt their flat-footed version.

Overall Evaluation: Intuit seems to be headed down the same road as Microsoft with Windows. Why nick the consumer for one or two versions of your product, when you can cleverly construct limitations in the product, the purpose of which is to force consumers into an ever-proliferating multitude of increasingly expensive products? It's enough to make me abandon Intuit products after over a decade of use. But, bottomline, although the user interface is slick, as is the online bill pay aspect of the program, in other respects Quicken keeps getting more and more complicated without necessarily increasing its usability or flexibility. That is damned disappointing, in short.

    Duration of ownership:90 Days

Strengths: Huge improvement over Quicken 2004

    Weaknesses: Slower, forced to upgrade

Overall Evaluation: Quicken forces you to upgrade after a certain time, as certain functions "stop working". So I was annoyed when I purchased this, and tried to find it for the lowest possible price. AsenaShop sold it for a wonderful price.Plus, it is a huge upgrade. The stock tracking system actually works now, and understands options MUCH better than before. It does a better job of handling mortgages and other loans, and many other "business-esqe" transactions.

    Overall Rating: 2 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:5 Weeks

Strengths: fairly easy to upgrade from previous quicken versions, automated account updates

Weaknesses: account setup not streamlined, very difficult for people used to the older version to adjust to new version

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this to update an extremely out-dated version of Quicken for someone else, mainly for the ability to automate account updates. However, unless you're a younger person, you'll probably have a hard time adjusting to all the changes... Quicken does all the same basic stuff that Money does, it just does it in a slightly different way. There are pros and cons for each. And remember, not all financial institutions support automatic updates for Quicken (some even charge you like Wachovia does!--horrible!). So you'll still have to manually download information from the financial website in order to keep everything up-to-date in Quicken/Money (and/or avoid paying fees).UPDATE: Money no longer exists, so I just use the reason why Money doesn't exist: the online applications that banks and investment firms offer for their customers (they are generally free!). Don't bother complicating things with additional software, you don't need this...

    Duration of ownership:1 Months

Strengths: It is very user friendly.

Weaknesses: The first time I was able to download from one of my banks, but the next time I couldn't make it work. I think this is a bank issue and not a Quicken issue.

Overall Evaluation: I have used many versions of Quicken so I have used some version of it for years. With other versions I have never downloaded from bbank and credit card sites, but I started doing this with 2008.After learning how to download from each site, I really like the ease and convenience of it. Some of my sites I can download from within Quicken without going on the sites at all. (some pages do not give you that capability), and it is really easy and quick to do. Once you tell Qucken what category you want for each transaction, then it remembers them the next time you download.I highly recommend this product!

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: download capabilities

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: I've used Quicken since 1994, owning versions 94, 97, 04 (all deluxe versions) and now 08. The jump from 04 to 08 was the biggest improvement, mainly in the ability to track investments. Between 401ks, IRA's, employee stock plans and others, we've got 9 investment accounts to track. It was easy to schedule a daily automatic download of prices and transactions from every account. You can even download 5 years of historical stock prices and months of past transactions.

Strengths: When their servers are up, it keeps up with stock prices. The check register works.

Weaknesses: It will not print checks or reports on my 64 bit VISTA system with a HP 6310 printer.

Overall Evaluation: If MS could read the data file, I would switch. I have used Quicken for years and this is the 1st real problem. The "FIX" offered by Intuit is a complete waste of time (hours).

Strengths: Helpful analysis of your investment portfolio, particularly for allocation and research and evaluation of mutual funds/stocks.

Weaknesses: The user interface has changed and, although I like the changes, it doesn't seem to be as stable, e.g., sometimes it flashes or some displays overlap others.

Overall Evaluation: I've used Quicken for years and particularly like the ease of use, the ability to download transactions for credit cards, bank accounts, and investment accounts, the various reports, the ability to quickly get information necessary for preparing taxes, and the tools available for managing investments.

    Duration of ownership:3 Weeks

    Strengths: Ease of use

    Weaknesses: Buggy software

Overall Evaluation: I've upgraded Quicken every other year and it has always been pretty uneventful. However this year, going from 2006 to 2008, has been a disapointment. Any time I switch register displays, the screen re-writes itself several times, resulting in a a flickering display. Another "feature" presents itself when I'm updating my online accounts and Quicken just quits and you're looking at your Windows desktop. I'd say wait until these problems are resolved, but after looking around on the web, it appears these problems have been around since Quicken 2007.

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: Packed with Features, Lots of Extras for Investment Tracking

Weaknesses: LOTS of features - may not need them all (but that's really a plus for most that would get this upgraded verison)

Overall Evaluation: It's Quicken, what else is there to say... The name Quicken is synonymous with financial software, just like Google is to websearching. This is a comprehensive package that allows you to track nearly every investment type there is. If you have more than this software can handle, you should be hiring someone to manage your portfolio full-time! Premier is the only way to go for an all-inclusive way to manage your money.
